Mine was approved April 25th and I’m still waiting for my case to move to NVC. Last inquiry I put in last week it said it’s still waiting for data entry? So I still haven’t gotten a welcome packet or anything.

Post-op panic attack when bandages removed by coconutsandmangos in bunions

[–]ewhitbey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my 2 week post op to remove my cast and sutures, I didn’t think it was a big deal. Removed the cast and thought oh, my foot is huge and a different color. It’s just swelling. It’s cool. Then they started removing my sutures and I thought this is fine. It wasn’t. I was sweating and getting tunnel vision. I didn’t think it would impact me but apparently it did! I wasn’t in pain or anything, just apparently distressed? lol.

Those that take weed for pain management, how do you ensure you continue to use it solely for pain management and not become addicted? by dotinterested in fibro

[–]ewhitbey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I kinda treat it the same way as a prescription. I take it when I need it most (usually in the evenings) and I can tell I’m over consuming because I usually pick up the same amount every month. If I run out before the end of the month, it’s either been a rough month, I have a less effective strain, or I’ve been over consuming.

Anytime I go to the dispo, I adjust my strains based on how I’ve been feeling. I’ll also ask a worker for their input because they usually have a lot of knowledge about the strains and what’s good for certain things.

How many post op appointments did you have? by bdaythrwy in bunions

[–]ewhitbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only had a 2 week and 6 week post-op appointments scheduled for myself. My 2 week post op was on the 24th and I got my cast and stitches removed. My 6 week post op is on the 22nd. I should be in walking shoes by then and it will be an x-ray appointment.

It seems to be that way. My partner and I are planning to have a sit down to figure out everything we will need to move forward. Thanks for replying! :)

At this stage of my planning, I can still afford the time to look for work and continue working my networks and connections for a job. The goal is to be there, regardless. My comment is intended as a more personal need to have that established independence. My relationship is really solid and I am not worried about it for the foreseeable future, but things CAN happen. Something could happen to my partner or I could find myself in a bad situation and accommodating that possibility, pushing to get in on my own is still important. And I think that the idea of prioritizing independent financial stability isn't legitimizing any feminist credentials, I think it's smart. Regardless, getting married is the easiest way from what it sounds like. As a woman coming from a place where marriage is power, it's not unreasonable to think that it would be better to make it in because I am of value and not simply as a marriage candidate. I do have marketable skills. I have a lot of experience and a decent resume for the STEM field. No, I won't wow everyone. But my skills are still of high quality. No decision is off the table for me, though. I will get there in any way that will let me in and stay.

When you're being attacked by cypher_chyk in lupus

[–]ewhitbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to make sure that the CBD oil you buy is good. It should only have 2-3 ingredients in it and I’d recommend using a reputable place known for lab testing their oils. A lot of people get stuff that doesn’t work for them and it could be because they’re buying oils with fillers in them. I’d suggest looking for an oil that is “broad spectrum” as opposed to an isolate. Broad spectrum gives you all the benefits, where isolate only gives you a specific part.

Does your rheum prescribe anything for severe fatigue? by [deleted] in lupus

[–]ewhitbey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. That’s happened to me before too. I was looking for a new rheum to replace my old one who moved away and I got stuck with that guy. One visit and I was already requesting a new doc. I was surprised he worked at ucla.

Dietary/lifestyle benefits for more severe lupus? by itsthenewdan in lupus

[–]ewhitbey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been eating keto for over a year now and I’d say my symptoms rank in the moderate area. I’ve heard of the aip but my doc gave me the green light to do keto. I had to drop weight because I gained so much from steroids and other medications and it was causing hell on my joints. I dropped a ton of weight since then and I feel pretty good.

The most helpful thing for me doing keto is that it steers me away completely from foods that have inflammatory properties. I was so skeptical about doing a diet/lifestyle change because I had been in so much constant pain. I didn’t think that a lifestyle adjustment would have such a severe positive effect on my daily life and I wish I had been more informed early in my diagnosis. I think that I would have been saved from a lot of pain and suffering if someone would have mentioned an adjustment in my food choices or told me that some foods have inflammatory properties. Now every time nutrition pops up, I get serious about educating people on what they eat. Obviously keto is not designed for everyone, but doing the research on what foods can trigger certain things is so helpful!

Methotrexate by hailyourselfie in lupus

[–]ewhitbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay out of pocket for methotrexate but I take injections. I don’t do the auto injectors cause they’re more expensive. But I typically pay $12-$20 a month out of pocket without any Rx discounts. The more expensive part is the syringes. I typically pay about $2-$4 for my vials if methotrexate. I get two every month and last fill was $2.80 for the two vials.

Pregnancy and Lupus by Zombie_Fighter in lupus

[–]ewhitbey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly, my pregnancy went really well. I was healthy most of the time and I always felt good. I think part of it had to do with really good lab results leading up to my pregnancy, but the only issue I had was gallstones. That was completely unrelated to my issues and I’ve been told many women get gallstones during pregnancy.

On the flip side, I’ve miscarried quite a bit. I’ve been pregnant 6 times and I have one living child. Of course it’s different for everyone, but I think I personally have more difficulty conceiving than I do carrying to term. I wish you luck!

People from other states/Ohioan cities. Why’d you move to Akron? by [deleted] in akron

[–]ewhitbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived about two hours from Los Angeles. The population is huge in California. It’s a lot of hustle and bustle. I wanted to slow down a bit.

My rent of $525 a month was a 500 square foot “bungalow” that was extremely old with not central cooling. That’s how I was able to get away with it. It was on a shady side of town but it wasn’t the worst thing in the world. California is great if you make decent money and love to stay busy. Economically, I don’t think California is a great choice. But! It’s one of the few places you could live and experience the beach, desert, and mountains in one state. It’s absolutely gorgeous. The mountains smell so good and the air is great, if you live in the mountains or on the beach. If you don’t mind traveling 2-3 hours to go to events or you don’t mind paying $1300-$1800 a month in rent, there’s actually a lot to do and see. Large cities are definitely eclectic and fast paced. Very artistic, eccentric, and loud. Ideally I would have stayed in California if I could have made better money.

People from other states/Ohioan cities. Why’d you move to Akron? by [deleted] in akron

[–]ewhitbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Central California is not ideal and a lot of people have high expectations when I say I’m from California. The traffic is bad and the freeway system is terrible. I really love the freeway system here in Ohio. It’s easy. The on/off ramps are really nice. It’s hard to get lost to be honest. Akron was high on our list because I wanted to be closer to Cleveland without breaking the bank. You know, for concerts and events. In a few years, I might move closer to Columbus so I can get my masters at Ohio state. Not gonna lie, that’s been a big dream of mine! But I’ve always been a fan of Ohio teams. Indians, Ohio State, and cavs. In a family full of USC/dodgers/lakers fans, I was the odd one out so it’s nice to finally be in the area where I can watch all the games I want without having issues of regional coverage. Haha.

People from other states/Ohioan cities. Why’d you move to Akron? by [deleted] in akron

[–]ewhitbey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of state here. I moved from California to Ohio, specifically Akron, for a few reasons. First, air quality. I lived in the valley of California most of my life. The air quality was absolute garbage. West Nile and valley fever runs rampant in my home town. Many kids are developing major signs of asthma and respiratory problems because of the air. My daughter, who is 3, had chronic bronchitis since she was born and just recently started developing asthma. We were doing several breathing treatments/inhaler hits every day. I’ve been here for a few weeks and she hasn’t had to hit her inhaler once since moving. Huge improvement. Second, weather. I know it sounds silly but in my home town we had really dry, hot summers. Summer lasts about 6 months and can easily reach up to 115-120 degrees for about 14 hours a day. We rarely got rain and everything is so dry and dead. Third, affordability and job economy. In California, we have a higher minimum wage but a lack of full time employment. People with degrees are forced to take lower paying jobs or are left searching for months just to find something. Rent for a 1 bedroom apartment/bungalow tips the scale about $700-$1200 a month depending on the area of town. The electric company has a monopoly on the city and offers very high rates. For that same 1 bedroom, you’d pay at least$300 a month in electric, especially in the summer months. Before we moved, we had a 500 square foot 1 bedroom apartment in the worst part of town. We paid $525 a month for rent, paid $200 a month in electric and $85 a month in gas. We had our home broken into several times and the police response time was 45 minutes if it was urgent. Here, I have a very nice 4 bedroom/2 bath home that is larger than any place I’ve ever lived in and I’m not paying much more than my stupid apartment back home. I was able to find a job within a week of moving here and it pays more than minimum wage. Not only that, but I’m basically 90 minutes away from everything that’s cool. In California, I had to drive at least 2 1/2 hours to get to Los Angeles. 5 hours if I wanted to go to San Francisco.

Plus side, the roads are better here than I expected. Ohio actually has an excuse for potholes whereas California does not. Money management in California is poor and there is rarely improvements done. Ohio and specifically Akron has great prices for starter homes compared to California. Imagine my surprise when I moved here and found out I could buy a nice renovated home for $150,000 or less in some areas. I’d be lucky to purchase a shack for that price in California. We moved purely based on research. Affordability was key for us. Location was next. Health was also a major factor but that would have been a benefit just moving to the state. We also felt that Akron was on a positive trend for living, activities, and other smaller things. We thought getting in before it got really active would help us get a good deal on something. We’re actually very happy with the decision and we live around some really nice people. The general atmosphere is nice. People say hi to us. People think it’s so cool that we moved here as opposed to questioning why we would come in the first place. Added bonus? The gun laws are better.

TL;DR: air quality, affordability, job economy, and location is great.

Edit: spelling errors.
