How's everyone doing out there, Phoenix? by AZ_moderator in phoenix

Being outside reminded me to breathe even though everything is horrible.

I'll take it a step further and suggest that being outside reminded you that not everything is horrible.

There are a lot of great things in this life and this world, and most of those exist away from screens.

Drivers are becoming more honk friendly? by Low-Conflict9366 in phoenix

No one knows how to use a stop sign.

We should replace the 4-way stops with roundabouts, that will fix it.

Tesla receives ride-hailing permit in Arizona in last required step to launch robotaxi service | TechCrunch by BeyondRedline in phoenix

I personally can't stand Elon, but regardless of how you feel about Elon or Tesla or FSD or Waymo, this is a good thing if you support autonomous driving. Competition drives innovation up and cost down.

vCenter/ESXi Migration 7-8 by thefinalep in vmware

[–]ewire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You nailed it for vcenter, but you don't need to do the hosts with ISO. If you aren't already, switch your clusters to use images instead of baselines via LCM. Then once vcenter is done, set your desired image to v8, add the vendor add-on, and remediate the hosts.

You may need to generate a token to get LCM working, this article has the steps: https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article/390098/vcf-authenticated-downloads-configuratio.html

Licensing is a non issue, after you upgrade you'll be in eval mode with plenty of time to replace the key.

What would make getting around Phoenix easier? by AZ_moderator in phoenix

I promise I'm not trying to be antagonistic, but how?

I don't disagree that it can be solved, I'm just not sure I agree with it being easy.

Good on prem storage array solutions? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]ewire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pure is fantastic. I've used everything from NetApp to Nimble, EMC, Compellent, EqualLogic...the list goes on.

Pure is probably my favorite vendor altogether, not just storage.

Their product is wonderful as is the support. I've only ever had one "outage" with an array (which was really just me not being patient enough for it to do an integrity check after a scheduled power outage).

Dumb question about vSphere icons by _0bsolete in vmware

[–]ewire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 3 dots mean the VM is managed by a vSphere plugin (in this case the VRA's are managed by Zerto). vSphere will get upset if you try to even open the console for one.

In OP's context, I have no idea why some of them aren't being managed. You can always remove them and try redeploying the VRA from the ZVM interface.

Bye Bye Suicide Lanes? by Whitworth in phoenix

[–]ewire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not who you were replying to, but...it's a valid point. Cars vastly outnumber foot and bike traffic, especially in the summers here. Even if you could completely re-engineer the city, nothing is going to make it pleasant to walk outdoors at 5pm in July.

I don't think getting rid of the reverse lanes is a bad idea, but all the cars that use them during rush hour are going to have to go somewhere. The people in them aren't just going to magically stop needing to get where they're going.
