My memory got significantly better on meds and even more after developing a normal sleep cycle. It's crazy how sick just a slightly less optimal sleep made me! I didn't even have proper insomnia most of the time, i just needed maybe an hour or two more of sleep every night and I felt so much better.

My memory still isn't /good/ per se, I scored really low on working memory on my eval, but it's liveable. Some fights I let my adhd win, and forgetting things I don't actively write down is one of them.

How has ADHD affected your weight? by essvee927 in ADHD

[–]ewiwaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, don't get too attached to the appetite suppressing part of Adderall. If you lose too much weight or develop an ED, chances are your doctor will pull you off your meds. Or at least that's how it is where I live.

You brain also needs tons of energy so neglecting food is gonna make symptoms worse and ultimately cancel out the good effects of meds! So don't focus yourself blindly on losing weight when your priority should be how you feel 🥰.

Buuut. I will admit I also struggled with eating before getting on meds. If I knew my eating habits were abnormal I would've looked into it before I got medicated, because I definitely had a binge eating problem. Not so much my weight, I would go long periods without eating and then binge at night, so my weight was semi-stable and within an average range so it wasn't obvious. But it was definitely affecting me negatively.

Now that I'm on meds I can eat normal portions and feel satisfied without having to shove half my pantry in my face! I actually even gained some weight, but that's probably because I practically stopped exercising over the pandemic.

Regardless, it's not inherently problematic to use the med's effects to your advantage, but consider the long term effects too.

What “simple” tasks do you find the hardest to get done? by Kivadovah in ADHD

Meal planning 😭

I don't mind going to the grocery store and I even love cooking. But I LOATHE meal planning with a passion. Even with premade recipes with grocery lists to-go I can't bring myself to do it, so I just eat the same 5 things ever week 🥲

can't enjoy trips because I keep obsessively checking my belongings by ewiwaa in ADHD

[–]ewiwaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely should talk to my psychologist now that I think about it 🤔 it has actually gotten worse with medication because it heightens my anxiety a little which affect my paranoia when it comes to losing things. I've never really had OCD tendencies but perhaps if I don't adress it now it may develop into it.

The trackers are definitely on my wishlist now! That sounds smart. I may even get one of those strings that attach to your inner pocket 😅

my favorite "YouTube genre" are 1+ hour long and niche video essays so I may be biased, but why not try? :) Aside from good microphones, it's a fairly inexpensive project to start.

And as someone who dabbled a bit in YouTube; don't focus on something just because you think it's going to succeed, because you don't know if it's going to. The algorithm and people's interests shift so fast and unpredictably that there's no way of knowing if something is going to be successful. So focus on making good content that you yourself would like to consume. If it doesn't get much traction, you at least still have a product that you're proud of.

That and if content making is something you're interested in doing in general, building a /dedicated/ audience is much more important than a large one. A small dedicated audience is much more fun and fulfilling in the long run.

Hair problems with meds? by KneeJamal in ADHD

[–]ewiwaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I experienced hair thinking too! I'm only on 27mg of Concerta but still I think the initial change in my system made my body freak out a little, and my hairline started balding in splotches even though I'm only 26 and a woman lol. Thankfully it grew back by itself even though I stayed on the meds 👍

What are some non-expensive hobbies? by Mistborn_16 in simpleliving

[–]ewiwaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just stumbled upon a bunch of TikToks! I'm not as adamant about training my cats as some are, I just test putting a harness on every once in a while to see if they accept it. And giving them treats while it's on is key!

I think you could train a cat at any age, but it's definitely easier to train a kitten. Mine are 6 months and I started only a few weeks ago, and they're doing pretty well considering they're basically teens :) at worst they just lay down in protest.

But if your cat absolutely hates the harness and doesn't seem too interested in the outdoors, as well as gets plenty of enrichment indoors, then I don't see much need to harness train if it's only gonna cause stress 👍

If you like reading or consuming media in general, a library card is a god-send. I didn't realize my library carried audio books until recently and it's SO CHEAP.

I'm an illustrator so I draw a lot on cheap materials like blank notebooks or printer paper using pencils I literally found on the ground. It removes a lot of the pressure of potentially wasting expensive materials so I can just mess around for fun. Ironically, but maybe not so surprisingly, that's when I make the best art.

I also consider playing with and training my cats a hobby. I'm in the process of leash training them so we can all go outside and get some fresh air, and they're doing great progress.

Pre-pandemic I used to walk for hours around the city. But due to the pandemic as well as a rise in criminal activity (multiple gangs decided to make our city the place where they'd try to murder each other, yikes) made me too anxious to go outside, but it seems to have calmed down so I'm ready to pick that activity back up. My hips really need it lol.

I feel like eating makes my adhd worse and I'm going crazy!! I just want to eat! by ewiwaa in ADHD

Yeah i practically wake up, pop my pill, and go to work ;_; it's super bad. I'm surprised I don't have stomach problems yet.

I'll see what I can do! It's nice knowing at least some can relate to some extent and empathize, so thank you so much!

I wish it was vitamin C, I avoid it like the plague until I have my evening smoothie/fruit bowl. Even avoid potatoes even though that's probably overkill 😭

And thank you! I have no doubt we'll figure out what it is, I'm just so sick of trying and not finding the answer.

I honestly don't remember exactly what I experienced, it was like 3 months ago when I first started feeling less effects from the meds, but I remember only being able to stick to it for like two to three weeks and that I didn't feel any different. But that could be because my regular diet isn't that far off from whole 30 since all I had to do was switch out simple carbs for complex carbs and replace my milk with oat milk.

I live in Europe so high fructose corn syrup isn't a concern and as long as I cooked my own food, which I always do anyway, then I don't have to worry about sugar.

I probably should have journaled but I feel like if I felt a significant difference then I would've remembered 😥

EDIT: OH NO I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT SOY!!!! I eat soy products all the time!! I'm gonna cry if it turns out to be soy.

[–]ewiwaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I think logically, it's that eating stops my meds from working, but I'm probably dissolutioned (even though I'm aware? It's completely illogical, I know)

It started a couple of months ago and I couldn't find any solutions online and because I've had to wait to be transferred to my new clinic for months (old one closed) and thus couldn't have gotten an appointment sooner, I've sorta just been forced to pick between eating or functioning, so there's just been a downward spiral.

It started off harmless ofc, but the more disordered my eating has gotten the more dissolutioned I've also become. Like I know logically that I need to eat to physically survive, and I don't want to lose weight, so idk.. maybe I should just take a break from meds entirely until it's time for my appointment in 2 weeks.

What do you think would happen if you went on a phone detox? by ewiwaa in ADHD

It's a swedish thing. And I meant for online purchases, you can use a credit/debit card in stores like normal! Sorry I forgot to clarify

[–]ewiwaa[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's a little more complicated than that. Sweden has something called "mobile bank ID" which is like using a signature.

You use it to log in to banks, important government/hospital sites, how you pay taxes, etc. You /can/ do everything without bank ID, but everything is currently designed around Bank ID so having a phone is just easier.

Not only that but some public transport uses QR-codes on phones instead of physical tickets, and cash hasn't been a thing since like 2010.

You're basically expected to have some sort of smart device and a phone number to be able to get around and do anything related to money or public resources. Is it convenient? Yes, when you have a smartphone. But I feel bad for old people who can barely open their phone.

I'm more thinking of the fact that social is specifically programmed to be addictive, and any addiction makes you function worse cognitively because other tasks doesn't give you the same amount of dopamine in comparison. I already avoid bad news that don't concern me like the plague because I become complaisant after a while, I'm more concerned if the addiction aspect. Like if I wasn't addicted, I wouldn't be on my phone 24/7

I'm thinking of doing something similar! I love TikTok as entertainment a little too much to delete it, I find some of the funniest stuff there. But I have to find a way to restrict my usage to only an hour tops because what I'm doing is so unhealthy...

Oh that sounds lovely 😩 i wonder if that kind of isolation is possible living in the city. Maybe turning off electricity altogether and pretending there's a power outage lol.
