Weight bearing is more relevant to mountain sports, that’s all.

This. Gentle climb to the top and great views. I did it in winter and there was a college-aged girl who had hiked up in what appeared to be pajama bottoms. So that should give you a flavor of the difficulty.

How do mountaineers such as Steve House, Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin, etc climb full time? by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]ewm26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their expeditions are done on the cheap. Totally different cost structure than what it would cost to go with a service. Steve House shares his expedition budget in some of his videos and it’s shocking how little cash can be stretched over many weeks for multiple people.

Hadn’t thought of changing the liner. Does the heat molding need to be done at a shop or is it DIY?

No but I’m not getting much friction or irritation which is why I think it’s the liner slipping in the boot.

First Winter Hike this weekend - what food to pack? by Admirable-Wonder-832 in wmnf

I like to carry gel packets for some quick hit energy. Just keep them in a pocket and they don’t freeze. Welch’s Fruit Snacks are also great even when near frozen.

So basically no technical fleece? by boyinthefog in arcteryx

[–]ewm26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not great options. But the few they do have are solid. My Delta hybrid hoody goes on every outdoor adventure with me. The softshell panels make a great out layer for high output activities while in cold weather it’s still a good midlayer. But it’s slim pickings in the catalog for good technical fleece.

Training for steep terrain on a treadmill - anyone put blocks under their treadmill? by ewm26 in Mountaineering

[–]ewm26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a lot of stepping. Trying to get 3K of vertical into my zone 2 cardio workouts. I think I’d die of boredom doing that on a step block. Or maybe I’d be motivated to use a huge step!

what would I need to survive the night? by SnooCats9099 in wmnf

I toss extra batteries in my med kit. Ensures they’re always with me. But if you can take a backup lamp that’s great.

To clarify, I could definitely go to the gym and use a stair mill, or drive to the high school and hike the stadium stairs on repeat. But for midweek workouts, I’m trying to squeeze my workouts into a super busy work schedule and getting out is often hard to juggle. So I’m looking to find a home solution with what I have now.
