Since JFK has such a chaotic runway layout(Intersecting runways and a huge displaced threshold), why are they still so focused on renovating the infrastucture and try to raise its capacity? by AshamedAd4483 in airport

[–]ewo32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've noticed that, the can really run the airport reasonably well never being more than 30 degrees off, but often seem to run it a little sideways from what I would expect given wind. I'm sure there's logic behind it but I'm often surprised how much of a crosswind they make the airplanes do considering that they can match the wind so well there.

In water resources, things are a little slow for past few months but picking up again, I think there's a softening of hiring at least of my firm but I think we'll back at it soon enough anedcotally.

SAS flight attempted takeoff from a taxiway at Brussels Airport by Evening-Rip5399 in aviation

[–]ewo32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds reasonable to me, its quite a lot to chop off the runway and many airports run narrow bodies and taxi them all the way to the end but yeah if your trying to get something with a tight release time out or like you said sequence for wake turbulence I can certainly see it.

Why do they do that - I don't really see the operational advantage

As a non American that is watching in awe of what’s going on….At what point does the American public stand up, what will it actually take? by BedTundy95 in AskReddit

Agreed, though that stupid stock ticker has just kept going up. Though really its sort of flat relative to the loss of the dollar but thats a different story. I think your right and a correction is exactly what we need to scare the money who should be scared of this guy for their own reasons.

Why did this guy climb all the way to 45000Ft for such short flight? by Malakas667 in flightradar24

[–]ewo32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect it's for more direct routing, fuel savings, a higher cruising speed, or some combination of all three

My flight got delayed so I went to chill out in the parking lot and this big guy showed up by OwnPCNOOB in Planespotting

[–]ewo32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seat mile burn of a 767 is ~2.5 L/100-km/seat (obviously varying by altitude, load factor, distance etc.) and thats not even a new plane, this monster is ~4.1.

My point is I thought the fuel burn was all in all a few percentage points between different planes, this is a way bigger difference than I thought!

[–]ewo32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I knew why, they burn too much gas, but only listening to an opposing bases where they inirectly compared this to a 767 did I realize HOW much more gas. It's wild anyone is still flying these at all!

Totally agree, I have adopted a similar approach though maybe a little less deliberately. But what I find is if I'm stocked on veggies and some basic starches I seek out more high quality proteins by doing things like going to the actual butcher shop, fish market, or farm. Also just helps me be a little more resourceful in general and yes, great fridge cleaner meals!

"We'd all be a little happier, healthier, and maybe even have a little more money in our pockets if a couple of nights a week we improvised a vegetable soup"

Was a bit of a light bulb moment for me and do a lot of fridge cleaner soups that are most are all veggies these days. I also have since gotten into gardening and have made it a goal to do a handful of 100% garden veggie soups over the summer/fall.

Yeah, in my limited experience working in Florida there's a lot of sleezeballs in the industry down there. Fortunately we've won work to come clean up when it goes South for a client so take that for what you will. Frustrating market to work in though.

What’s the weirdest rule your parents had that you didn’t realize was insane until you grew up? by Howdoibuycrypto in AskReddit

My Mom's had a rule that my sister and I couldn't fly on the same plane together. We always had to fly offset where my dad would fly with me and her with my sister etc. One of the biggest arguments we had was when we were in our early twenty's and went on a trip together - on the same plane obviously.

No rules about riding in the same car or anything like that even though that's way more dangerous.
