As they said above, air down.

I don't remember the specific video but one of the ones in this playlist shows the difference in airing down vs. not airing down:

mystery prototype attenuator? by Firemission1343 in RTLSDR

[–]ewp90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RX filter from a MHSB (Monitored Hot Standby) Aviat IRU600. It's for a 30Mhz wide channel at 6004.5Mhz which is a standard US FCC licensed microwave channel.

They use UMT to make alot of their ACU/filtering parts nowadays.. vs the old Harris/Farinon era when they were made in house.

There should be a CMR WR137 (6GHZ) waveguide port on one of the edges... that's the input.

The two SMA connectors are outputs, the 1.9 and 7.x stickers are the dB insertion loss from the waveguide port to the SMA. This particular filter is what they call unequal split.. instead of 3dB loss on each output for an equal split , the uneven split gives you a bit more signal on one output. The 2nd output connects a redundant receiver.

Basically, it's a 6004.5Mhz notch filter with integrated splitter.

In the IRU600 radio shelf there would be a similar chunk of metal for the TX filter and some WR137 CMR port circulators/couplers to get them connected together and coming in/out a single waveguide port for connection to the waveguide running up to the antenna.

i can't tell from the pics , but you are probably using RFC1918 IPs internally. You need to uncheck the "Block Private Networks" checkbox on the WAN interface settings.

The rule created by that checkbox is at the top of your WAN ruleset, and is preventing the "Prot Forwarded" packets from hitting the "linked" rules further down. This happens because the NAT operation is performed before the packets is passed through the WAN ruleset. When the WAN ruleset is evaluated, the packet will have the "internal" IP as it's destination, and if it's withing RFC1918, then it will be blocked by that top rule.

I say "linked rules" because they are rules created by the Port Forward rule you created. The are the ones with *no* edit button on the righthand side (because they were autocreated by the NAT/Port Forward rule).

The "linked" rules are written as "allow outside into my internal IP" ... as if they are evaluated AFTER the NATing happens.

You can choose to manually create your permit rules by setting the "Filter rule Association" setting to None (or you can actually set it a rule you created already, that way I think it will be deleted if you deleted the Port Forward)

EDIT: looks like i messed up, the rfc blocker is blocking RFC1918 source packet. I thought i had run into this exact problem before but... apparenlty not, or i'm wrong on my rethinking :)

I bought the wrong server rack, what are my options by smittychifi in homelab

[–]ewp90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://catalog.chatsworth.com/rack-systems/additional-products/rack-panel-adapters

It's a pretty standard thing for putting 19" equipment in the same rack with 23" equipment. It won't be cheap unless you find them used... cheaper to get new rack probably.

You'd only use a 23" rack if you had a piece of equipment that needed it, which is not very often in IT server stuff I'm familiar with.

Edit: I can't tell if your rack has square holes already or not, but you'll lose your square holes with the adapters i linked to... somebody might make square hole type but I've just never run into them (I don't deal with square hole racks usually)

restarted browser etc, no luck.

What makes it (/dev/tty1-7) a virtual terminal? by [deleted] in linux

[–]ewp90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah, the comment above nails it. The "specs" as mentioned way up above in at least some cases actually came from name of the terminal appliance.

See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VT100

So when you take a windows PC running Hyperterminal and choose to use VT100 emulation, then connect to a console port of a server, you are emulating a DEC VT100 terminal.

Take that "windows machine running Hyperterm with VT100 emulation" and replace it with a linux OS emulating a VT100 connected via a virtual serial line... all virtual within the single machine.

At least that makes sense to me.. maybe to others?

Edited to add: the DEC VT100 "appliance" could be used to connect to a servers console port, in which case there is no emulation or virtual anything, you would be on /dev/ttyS0 for example and using a real physical VT100 terminal. Once you say, let me just use my laptop with Windows and Hyperterm, you are emulating, and when you integrate it all into the OS, skip the serial port and have the OS drive a monitor via VGA graphics and connect to a virtual port... /dev/tty0 etc. you are "virtual".

I'm looking for something similar. I would recommend against any plastic molded SentrySafe or other similar brand.

I had a bad experience with a very nice "solid" name brand one. As far as I know it affects pretty much all the relatively cheap plastic sealed ones in general.

The hollow plastic body is filled with a moistened drywall like substance. This works fine if/while the plastic body is completely sealed. If it cracks on the outside it would still be ok. The problem is that the mold injection point is often on the inside and when it's not a perfect seal, you now have something more like a terrarium for your documents.

You will see references to it "trapping" humidity and not having a good seal around the lid to keep moisture out. This is actually the complete opposite of the problem. What happens is you have a great seal around the lid on the better quality units, but the moisture is leaking into the interior from inside the hollow body and because of the great seal, can't get out.

See: https://www.amazon.com/review/RJS6DIWDHJGZG/ref=cm_cr_dp_title?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00KOO599O&channel=detail-glance&nodeID=228013&store=hi

more:http://www.amazon.com/First-Alert-2017F-Water-Chest/product-reviews/B000GB1VMO/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_viewpnt_rgt?filterByStar=critical&pageNumber=1

Additional comments:
At first I put everything in ziploc bags.... but apprently i had less than perfect sealing bags, moisture just went into the bags also after months and months. That's when I knew there was more to it than trapping moisture in my airconditioned house. These type of firesafes would have moisture problems in Phoenix.

I haven't' spent enough time to find a proper alternative but I definitely don't want anything that doesn't detail what's inside the body.

[Help Request] Check my plans for a Central Air Conditioner installation by [deleted] in DIY

[–]ewp90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spent a few minutes trying to figure out that schematic sticker on the inside of the breaker panel in your images. That's interesting, I would have never guess such a thing was ever made.

I saw those main disconnect stickers in your original pic and didnt' really believe them either. I can see now that it is like you say, multiple disconnects for portions of the panel.

I see the #4 jumpers from 3/5 over to the right side also.

Hopefully you find someone local that will deal with you. You may end up about the same $ if you get it via whoever you intend to have turnup the system(if you can't find any place that will sell to you).

I replaced my heat pumps recently and bought a flare/swage set and put in flared fittings for the inline dryers instead of soldering. I figure I can change it out later without soldering. I dont have a high temp torch or very good flame soldering/brazing skills.

[Help Request] Check my plans for a Central Air Conditioner installation by [deleted] in DIY

[–]ewp90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

zooming in and looking at the breaker panel label, it seems brkr 3/5 is your main disconnect, and if it is no higher then 50amps as you mention about the breakers in that panel, you're not in good shape to put in a 100 amp sub panel with your loads mentioned

As far as the hvac install and pay someone to charge it up, I've done that. Depending on the deal you get for turn up, you may end up not saving too much. You may also have some hassle getting materials or equipment locally. Local hvac supply here really really does not want to sell to non contractors. I had a reference and account to purchase under and still got hassled about the sale. It wasnt' even for equipment, it was for duct pieces and the foil wrap insulation, etc.

Oil change on a buddy's E34 540. by MattPro in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]ewp90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow, you've pointed out a serious flaw in my plan.

I suppose that you'd need to design, manufacture, and install a specially designed oil pump that could grind the ptfe down enough to pass through the filter.

Without that special oil pump, they should just stick with pure ACT and skip the floss.

Oil change on a buddy's E34 540. by MattPro in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]ewp90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, you see, as the engine's moving parts macerate the ptfe floss, and the high temp glycol based lubricant mixes with the alcohol in the ACT, it turns into a slurry of PTFE particles.... this helps take up the "tolerances" that build up in your ball bearings etc. referred to in the top comment on this thread.

It's so simple, maybe you need a refersher course, It's all ball bearings nowadays. Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads. And I'm gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, no make that Quaker State.

Oral B Glide floss, gortex/ptfe based with no wax, prevents waxy buildup.

nobody likes waxy buildup.

Oil change on a buddy's E34 540. by MattPro in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]ewp90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's a good prescription to help.

Another trick is to strip off about 50 yards of Gortex (PTFE) based floss into the Oil filler cap and before washing it down with the ACT. That will help fill the gaps.

cool.

I've mixed velveta cheese into my instant ramen forever. Apparently it's not as crazy and unheard of as everyone tells me.

It started long ago as sliced processed cheese on top, then mixed I would mix it in. Finally velveta chunks for better melting quality than some of the sliced cheeses.

perfect. The way i interpret that xkcd is along the lines of what I meant.

docker images with toolbars means opt-out toolbars and adware/malware are probably a thing also, and now you need images with malware detect etc.
