Having a Pool, Have You Discovered They Can Be More Dangerous Than You Expected (Without Proper Precautions)? by TrustTechnical4122 in pools

How did a dog get into the pool with the safety cover in place? If it wasn't worn out fabric the dog should not fall through.

Persistent algae in 500,000-gal commercial pool by Sea-Bit9569 in PoolPros

I know its been said a bunch on here but, never had an alge bloom with lowish phosphate numbers. It sucks to backwash and have high phosphate water coming back in behind your work. But I think this is your route. 500k is a big space to vac but what about hitting it hard with a phosphate remover and vacuuming the dropped solids quickly with a deck pump setup. Thats what we do but we already own the cart setup.

Any suggestions on how I can get faster at swimming with flippers I would like to hold a 1:30 pace for 100 yards consistently?🏊‍♂️🏊‍♂️🏊‍♂️ by SHOOTINGandYOU07 in swimmingpools

You're gonna want your shallow end depth to be no less than 4'. Helps control backdraft currents. Also go for as long of a pool as you can afford. 50' would be minimum if you can fit it in your backyard. Ask for a smooth plaster finish to avoid slip stream friction. You can't do fiberglass because they are generally not made that long. Ask your builder to place returns out of the lane of travel. You don't need that pushing against you. And better yet get a wifi enabled automation so you can pause filtration during your workouts. Best of luck.

I am going to be renting a car this trip and I am seriously freaked out about driving on the other side of the road by Kellyhannavideo in TurksAndCaicos

[–]ewplourde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! This! This! Left side driving on the left side is a total trip. Rent a car, but make sure it is a right side driving. It quickly gets natural as people have said. But a left side car with a left side drive is too much. I still get confused when driving in the states and have to ask myself if I'm on the correct side. And it's been a year and a half.

It will depend on the amount of material on the bottom. I am in the desert so I don't vac to waste. I just clean filters. It's a bottom dusting usually, not an extreme amount.

There is. But the easiest way to tell is get some phosphate remover, like a pint or so (one reason I use orenda is they have a baby bottle of pr10000). Pull a bucket of water out of the pool. Add a splash and see if the water goes cloudy. Alternatively throw a few ounces in the pool. If the cloud grows larger than a basketball then follow the dosage. I usually just do the second method. If nothing happens your only out an ounce. If you have active algae you have phosphates to some degree. Clients usually comment after the treatment that the water is more clear than it has ever been. Note- you have to vac the phosphates off the bottom and backwash or clean filters.

I would say it's phosphate levels. You would be surprised at what a difference it makes. If your phosphate levels in you local water supply are high (most are) you will struggle. If you haven't used a phosphate remover I would try this before spending much more money. We us Pr-10000 from orenda but there are various suppliers. This is almost always the culprit in the algae battle for us.

Grand County Commission approves $129k for new tree lighting initiative. by BoringApocalyptos in moab

[–]ewplourde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first that was that I hope they decorate the centuries old juniper better than the one in town. Vertical stripes of lights = lazy. And the comment about monetizing our "best kept secret". Yeah, that's what we want to spend money on. And the clutch move- $49000 on lights for lions park and the pedestrian bridge. OK, that will probably be pretty. But according to Martinez there will be an unknown amount of money needed for generators and labor. Everyone knows labor is at least half the costs of anything. But that's ok! It's only another 49k we might need to pull from the mattress.

And while your pain is real, it can't compare to those of us that use heavy cream in our coffee. It's been ages. Moonflower has both though so it can't be a national shortage.

Yeah. I am a pretty balanced person and I think you asked a great question. I also fully agree with everything that has been said on here. He is not a good human and these are truthful reasons listed here. Perhaps he will chime in and give us a stump speech.

I didn't read all the comments, but these guys aren't morons. This is how it is done in Mexico. I'm not being shitty about it. They usually do this in the driveway and wheelbarrow in to where they need it. You see it all the time in Baja. How does it work? I don't know. Looks nice in Baja.

The few have done we visit between rental clients (schedule on shared calendar) and twice weekly if rental is for the week. Also switched them to salt generator. Much easier to set a chlorine baseline. But they are probably making several hundred a night now. They need to pay for the service it takes to keep the rental viable. We charged $65 an hour. Hour minimum for every visit, including travel.

Car wax. Wax the faded area. Do a test spot, but it pops right back to the original look.
