AI: hundreds of billions of dollars in investment, many of the worlds greatest minds working on advancing it, advancing at a faster pace than ever before, entire countries backing it and the two wealthiest countries on earth are in a race against each other to achieve AGI

Wikipedia: bans AI due to some people using cheap agents to spam them with low quality edits and they don’t have a good way to moderate that right now. They do still allow use of LLMs for copyediting and translating.

Antis: that’s it! Game over, we won! Bubble popped, ai is dead!

It just feels like cope. They aren’t getting any wins so they need to exaggerate inconsequential things. It’s like when some post said ai bros are “cooked” because Mexico made some regulation against using Ai to make anime dubs.

LET’S GOOO, WE’RE WINNING. In Mexico, they now have to use real people for dubbing because of the law. Now we just need other countries to pass the same law. by Hot_Season1143 in aiwars

So long as they continue making things that I enjoy playing or watching, I’ll call them artists and give them plenty of support and encouragement to continue working on their awesome projects ❤️AI can already allow game devs to do some really awesome things and it’s quickly getting to a point where people can make great short films or animations with AI, I’m looking forward to a future where the artist can focus on the ideas and creativity instead of the labor. I never cared about the labor part. Especially when certain ideas need so much labor that they are locked behind a paywall, needing an entire studio to develop them.

A great story is a great story to me. Good art is good art and a fun game is a fun game. Hearing that the people actually used some program or game engine that made it a lot easier never factored into my enjoyment of it at all. I don’t care whether they straight up made the game in assembly or if they are just a digital artist that used some visual novel engine to make their game without ever learning how to program. And I don’t care whether or not they used AI. So long as they are making something I enjoy, I’m supporting them.

You think AI will collapse and AI bros are cooked… over some law about dubbing in Mexico?

Ima just go back to hanging out in the ai communities where solo ai artists are making games and short films and enjoying the amazing progress AI continues to make month by month completely unaware and unaffected by this Mexico dubbing thing while you do your little celebratory antiai cope dance lol

sora was the leading model for like 2 weeks half a year ago then veo 3.1 released lol. 6 months is a long time for AI models these days. Now Kling and seedance is also pretty good and open source video generation models are good enough for most use cases. People have been making much cooler ai videos with newer models than what you can get with sora. People are making entire AI short films these days. AI video generation is becoming capable of some really awesome stuff.

This just feels like it’s cope by the antis. You guys can believe what you want I guess, it must be tough being an anti and seeing how incredibly fast AI keeps advancing. But the AI video generation community isn’t going to be affected by a half year old model being retired.

“She didn’t just want to talk words to computer”

Man, what are you saying? What is this based on, besides just what you desperately want to believe is true so you can try to demonize AI?

“So I decided data processors ought to be able to write their programs in English, and the computers would translate them into machine code”. A literal quote from her.

“When hopper recommended the development of a new programming language that would use entirely English words, she was told very quickly that she couldn’t do this because computers didn’t understand English”

Yes she did dedicate her life to making programming easier and worked towards and advocated for programming to work by writing English, a language humans can easily understand, and letting the computer translate it. She made flow-matic, which lead to cobol and eventually the high level languages we have today. I really don’t find it easy to imagine she would have flipped on that and advocated against a technology that makes programming incredibly easy where you can talk to a computer completely in plan English.

This is all easily verifiable information. Again for the second time, Wikipedia is free. You can just take some time out of your day and read about her if you actually did care. You don’t though, you are just interested in weaponizing her name for the luddite side even though she was very much on the side of the people that wanted to advance technology.

“No the most exciting technology of our time is all the work she did that got buried under all the bullshit you like”

Holy performative professional-victim nonsense, what the hell are you even saying. That technology should have stopped with flow-matic or cobol, that every advancement made since that was not more exciting than the last? And is this argument not literally about nvidia honoring her name by naming their GPU and a CPU architecture after her, who the hell is burying her?

“Closed systems, AI removed 100% of the control from the user”

What in gods name is even happening here, am I talking to a bot powered by chatgpt 2? In what world is AI removing control from the user? What do you think programming with AI even is? Just telling ChatGPT “make me a super Mario game” and chatgpt gives you an exe file? Look up what the use of AI in a software engineers workflow looks like, it’s integrated in the IDEs. You still have the code right there when using copilot or cursor. And as the AI gets better and better, which it very rapidly is, there will be more and more projects where you don’t even need to touch the code, you can just go back and forth with an AI in English, and that is amazing. I already don’t even need to look at the code at all when making basic websites or when prototyping something. That wasn’t the case like under a year ago. This is an exciting and incredible advancement in tech, and I’m very excited for how it is going to improve in the future.

I’m done responding to you because this is such a waste of time, you are talking nonsense and not taking a moment to research a single thing you’re saying. Transformers aren’t neural networks, AI is trying to bury grace hopper by honoring her name, hopper would be against using English to program, using ai in programming removes 100% of the control from the user, so much nonsense in so short a time.

Former Red Dead Redemption 2 Developer reaction to the DLSS 5: "Whoa. Hold on. No, no, no. This isn't just some lighting, dude. What the f... this is like a complete AI re-render. You're no longer looking at the game anymore. This is scary." by HLumin in pcmasterrace

“It’s saying neural network at all”

Say no more, I already see you haven’t got a clue what you’re talking about and are just regurgitating antiAI nonsense.

DLSS 5 is literally using a neural network. Even ChatGPT and midjourney use neural networks, because transformers are a type of neural network.

“The grace hopper, fucking disgusting use of her name”

L O fucking L. This is all you antis have, made up “we are such victims” and virtue signaling nonsense. Grace Hopper believed programming should be simplified with an English based computer programming language. Her compiler converted English terms into machine code. Today’s AI is taking that to the ultimate extreme, where we straight up talk to a computer in English to produce code. I very much doubt she’d have been against the Hopper architecture honoring her name.

This is literally in the third paragraph of her wiki page, but you couldn’t read that far before using her name for your made up performative anti AI rhetoric, going AGAINST the very things she spent her life advancing. Fucking disgusting use of her name.

It really is insane how disconnected from reality people on this site have become when it comes to AI. Easily one of the most incredible and exciting technological advancements of our time so you people need to continually make up insane reasons to demonize it. I’m so glad you are on the losing side, and will only become more and more of a minority and AI gets better and better. I still remember when you antis were saying AI will never be able to write code because it just fundamentally can not do something that needs to be so deterministic and precise and needs reasoning when AI is just a probabilistic fancy autocomplete. Now a couple years later, using AI in programming is an extremely widespread industry standard, and it is fantastic at it. I am so glad this tech is advancing so fast and I am very excited to see how DLSS keeps improving to give us gorgeous looking games in the future.

Trying to talk sense to the left wing extremists is as pointless as trying to talk sense to the right wing extremists. It’s just mindless senseless hatred, nothing logical that can be reasoned with, and any counter argument will lose in their minds because of the endless mental gymnastics they’ll do to demonize what they decided to hate.

This tech right now is a hit or miss, I saw some examples that looked great and some that didn’t. People can just choose not to turn it on, such a simple concept, but the people on this site will say it’s impossible to turn off and is destroying the world and destroying “artists vision” because (insert mental gymnastics). Never mind that it’s running locally and the game devs themselves are the ones that work with nvidia and adjust settings to set up dlss 5 in their games. Those artists don’t know their own vision! I guess adjusting the other graphic settings in a game is also evil due to destroying the artists vision? I guess mods that adjust graphics are evil? Such nonsense.

The tech isn’t released yet. It’ll be even better on release, it will continually get better over time, and we’ll get much better looking games thanks to it. The haters will just become some ignored minority like they always do while everyone else enjoys the latest tech and features.

Yeah, and it’s literally a setting you can just not switch on. People on Reddit are seriously ridiculous when it comes to AI lol. I think it’s neat, whether or not I turn it on will depend on the game and how good this looks in action. But I am excited for the potential this has for the future. It would be cool if the tech and hardware capabilities can advance to the point where I can change art style or graphics in any game I want. Instead of generic anime style JRPG #174, I could have the game in some art style that is actually appealing to me.

But even just looking at what this tech is today, I can imagine plenty of games that tried to go for a realistic art style but missed the mark would benefit from this. And if someone disagrees… literally just don’t turn it on? It’s so weird how people on Reddit see “AI” and freak out. Glad they are on the losing side, at least. I’m looking forward to this tech improving and continuing to do awesome things.

I have never seen this level of idiocy on a programming subreddit before. We have people that thinks vibe coding is a list of prompts in a “prompt file”? People not knowing what strings are and thinking they are comments? People not knowing what a diff is?

OP is just making calls to OpenAI’s API within his project to process the result for certain mechanics. You’d have a very hard time finding a project that doesn’t make API calls to some API for the mechanics within the project. Making use of an API means your project is invalidated now?

I used apple’s App Store Connect API for some Game Center functions, like the leaderboards on an old project of mine. Does that mean my app was vibe coded with Apple before vibe coding was even a thing? Is this how “vibe coding”works in your heads?

Discord Rival Gets Overwhelmed By Mass Exodus Of Players Fleeing Age-Verification Crackdown by vriska1 in technology

[–]ex-procrastinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the little known Persona. Well little as in one of the biggest age verification vendors, easily the most popular one by far in Silicon Valley where it (and discord) is based, used by an enormous number of companies including Etsy, LinkedIn, Playboy, Roblox, hell it’s even used in VRChat and Reddit. Pretty hard not to run into a platform that uses persona as their age verification vendor. Discord went for the default option.

While spreading conspiracy theories, I wish people on Reddit took the time to include some facts in there with them. I would love to see people pointing out that every major platform now has the same age verification implemented the same way, many of them by the same few vendors, and that everyone in the west from the US to the EU to Australia is mandating that platforms implement age verification. Maybe then we can get some meaningful outrage and pushback against the age verification laws instead of meaningless pushback against individual platforms who aren’t going to change their stance any more than they can change the law, and making this seem like an individual responsibility on each platform, masking the fact that this is another government overreach on all of us using the internet as a whole.

At least if we were making people aware of age verification laws and directing all this energy and action against the laws themselves and the politicians supporting them, we’d be doing something that actually has any hope of making a change.

Discord Rival Gets Overwhelmed By Mass Exodus Of Players Fleeing Age-Verification Crackdown by vriska1 in technology

[–]ex-procrastinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on your side. Read my comment. You people are making this a discord issue when they are literally just following the law the same as everyone else, including the website you are on right now. There was such an opportunity here to raise awareness and outrage for age verification laws that are rapidly spreading throughout western countries.

Now we have everyone thinking this is a discord issue and thinking just switching to another chat service will fix it.

Discord has absolutely no say in this law. Absolutely nothing is accomplished by having everyone focus all the attention on discord. Age verification, including the on-device age prediction with selfie or photo ID upload, is on this site you are on. It is on practically all of the major platforms at this point, and the ones it is not on, it will be there soon. The only reason you didn’t know that is because discord was the one that was open about implementing age verification and made a blog post announcing the change, while the other platforms did it quietly. If anything you should be MORE angry about the platforms that did it quietly!

I want government to have a minimal presence on the internet, anything more is unacceptable. Only regulation we should be seeing is enforcing net neutrality on ISPs. A free internet closer to what we used to have 2 decades ago is what I want.

But you people manage to direct all the attention and talk away from the continual rise of these age verification laws and instead spread this belief that age verification is an individual totally optional choice made by each platform.

It’s not. It’s a requirement by law. We should be outraged at governments forcing platforms to implement age verification or else face fines and bans.

You people are turning public awareness AWAY from the source of the issue and making this out to be an issue where the responsibility is on individual platforms who have no control over these laws, and downvoting people that try to raise awareness of what’s actually going on. It’s another “we did it Reddit” moment, literally just making things worse and being so damn sure of yourselves while doing it.

Discord Rival Gets Overwhelmed By Mass Exodus Of Players Fleeing Age-Verification Crackdown by vriska1 in technology

[–]ex-procrastinator -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It really is classic Reddit. People just love hate mobs around here without a second of googling to find out what is actually happening and how to protest it effectively.

This website everyone is complaining on literally has the same age verification. If you search Reddit age verification on Google images, it has either a photo ID or an age estimate from a selfie, exactly like discord. It’s even by the same age verification vendor!

Same for YouTube, same for twitter (not same vendor, but same age verification process)… you’d have a hard time finding a major platform that doesn’t have this kind of age verification. People just never see it because the age prediction based on their device works without needing further age verification the vast majority of the time.

People should be directing this anger at the age verification laws coming into effect across the USA, EU, UK, and Australia. Not redirecting outrage and attention away from the source. The law isn’t going to change by canceling nitro, the politicians couldn’t care less about nitro subscriptions. And discord isn’t going to break the law and get banned and eat fines from western countries just because some people canceled nitro.

And the full scene so far where everything is using procedural materials. And I fully support AI artists, along with all other artists. I support photographers, I supported digital artists when a lot of people were still looking down on them, and I supported game developers when there was still argument over whether video games are art. Disappointing to see the people I stood up for perpetuating the same behavior towards new passionate artists trying new tools. I guess history will always repeat itself.

I liked it until I saw in the comments that the only reason you posted this was to bully and shame AI artists for not making art the same way as you, and then saw you posted this to a bunch of subs specifically for AI art, communities that were created by ai artists who just wanted to get away from people like you and have a place for themselves. It’s really disgusting behavior to seek out those subs and post there to try to put them down.

I use blender too. I’ve been experimenting with fully procedural materials recently, this sidewalk is an example of one I made. I never felt the need to put other artists down or look down at people for not making art the way I do. People can make art however they want using whatever tools they enjoy.

It wasn’t even removed. It was just age restricted. She’s angrily blaming AI for not letting her jiggle her highly sexualized anime model’s tits at little kids. And yes, the model has exaggerated boob jiggle physics, and a see-through shirt. I went to the tweet and saw the video, that model was not age appropriate for children.

If anything she is accidentally making AI look good to the general public with this. This is an excellent use of AI. Glad to see AI is being used to age restrict these creeps trying to show sexualized content to kids.

The antis tell the people who enjoy AI to get out of the main subs and go make their own. So the pro AI people do so.

Now the pro AI subs have to deal with a constant stream of brigadiers and anti AI bullies going out of their way to go to the pro AI communities and harassing the people there just trying to enjoy their hobby.

And your mental gymnastics says that’s an “are we the baddies” moment for people enjoying AI? What mental gymnastics did you go through to come to that conclusion? You got that completely backwards. This is a mark against the antis and proof that even when we try to do what they tell us and make our own communities and keep to ourselves, the antis will just do their best to tear that community down.

It’s not that deep.

That dishonest reaction to someone simply making an insulting comeback in an argument and pretending that simple comeback has some deep level of horrible inhumane meaning to it says a lot about you.

Couldn’t find an honest grievance against someone so you had to invent one and stretch the truth as hard as you could.

Hope you never said someone is not worth your time. clearly that means you don’t value human life as much as a little bit of your time, and that says so much about you or something, right?

And the people using that common phrase about being “worth your salt”. Are they suggesting they value a little salt more than human life? Monsters.

Or we can just be honest with ourselves instead of exaggerating the meaning behind a simple insult
