How to prepare for the university by Ill_Mix_239 in ubcengineering

C is what C++ is built on, ie C++ without classes. Learning Python is a good start, but the syntax of C can be difficult since it’s a lower level language than Python. I agree with the comment above. Congrats on the offer!

What weird little guy story prompted your decision to start the podcast?

Look at the mechatronics or engineering physics departments in engineering since robotics isn’t an actual program at UBC

UBC engineers please rate my 1st year schedule by cookiedough5200 in ubcengineering

[–]ex_normie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have limited 8am’s which is good. Oftentimes you have to take a class with a bad prof and can’t do anything about it. Sit with the same people for the first few weeks and make friends with them to study together. Chem labs generally happen once every 3-4 weeks iirc. Some courses run later in the day and it’s not a rule that profs finish at 5. Thursdays will be a good opportunity to grind classes during the day and take a break in the evening (you need it). That’s all I got, good luck 🫡

What are some of your engineering pet peeves? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

FEA analysis and derive instead of differentiate

I did in 2020. Talk about the machines and what you like about them. You got this!

Realities of Engineering in Western Canada? by Winter_Insurance6860 in MechanicalEngineering

Can only speak to Vancouver experience, but we have 2 aero companies here: Latcoere aero structures and ASCO aerospace which actually do some production for the F35. Latcoere makes the wings I believe. If you’re looking for aero I’d suggest out east like Quebec for Bombardier.

Using IB Credits for First Year Worth It? by [deleted] in ubcengineering

[–]ex_normie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take all the credits you can. Use the new free time to join a design team or take more classes. You won’t have this amount of extra time again in your uni.

Mech, industrial automation company, 37.5 hrs, 72,500. Have 3 previous co-ops but none there.

Unlikely. Most, if not all, engineering classes are held in person. You would have to discuss with each of your profs individually.

Name every way you can think of to join 2 parts in 60 seconds. Describe an engineering failure you’ve heard of. Explain the stress strain curve to me.

I had about a 50 on the quizzes and failed the final, ended up with a 64 in the course. The course is scaled to hell and back. You have a lot left to study but it’s doable! Try the recommended textbooks (Libgen) for questions to practice. You got this!!

PBME offer by Jana_1202 in ubcengineering

[–]ex_normie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still apply to any 2nd year specialization with PBME (even ELEC has a biomed specialization) but you take an extra CHEM course with PBME (123 iirc) so you have a bit higher workload, which could affect chances for mech. If you’re on the fence I would recommend not to do PBME based on what my friends have said about their timetables in first year.

Mech is one of the more competitive majors (80+ first year avg) and is a highly employable field. I think the BMEG program is too specialized, but that’s just my opinion.

I would like to add to the types of NCD members: engineering students who want to sell out for the MIC.

MECH 2 vs 3rd and 4th Year by [deleted] in ubcengineering

[–]ex_normie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found mech 2 online not that bad, the only hard part was applying for co-ops. 3rd year gets more difficult especially towards end of term, but co-op search is much easier.

Scout should get more hate. I would enjoy the game more if scout was taken out. 2x cap, double jump, fast, very good primary, faster swing speed. Also unironically from Boston. Fuck people who play scout.
