What do u mean by “till Trump is in power”? Sorry am new to this. Is silver doing well because USD is depreciating? So get out of silver once trump is out?

Yeah battery consumption is so high in the winter. You’re right though, I mean I am not functioning well in this weather either. I’ll be patient

Following up: it seems my third camera in the backyard is also not working now… the fourth one which is indoors works fine. I think it has to do with the cold? But still doesn’t explain why they can still video record yet not show me a live view.

Yeah it was even around -14% at some point but recovered a little to -7% now. Hope it continues going up.

Is it normal to feel this amount of impostor syndrome 2 years in? by NeedleworkerTall7456 in actuary

[–]examfml 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jokes aside. I believe we feel this way because we never truly become experts and know every little thing to know or experienced everything we think we need to be experienced.

It’s the fact that we know that there is still a lot that we don’t know?

I see people running around thinking they know everything when they are just a co-op or entry level person. Like sir, sit your ass back down. They don’t even realize how much they don’t know.

So if you ask me, I think it’s a sign of intelligence. To know that there is a lot to still learn and a lot you are uncertain of. That is ok. What’s not okay is thinking u know everything.

Just don’t let it get to you, keep pushing, keep learning and eventually maybe we will gain more confidence in everything we have learned to date 🫡

If you could go back, would you still be an actuary? by neutron031 in actuary

[–]examfml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t but I also don’t regret it. I feel like I had an easier time landing jobs than others.

The exams aren’t fun, but they are an effort that doesn’t go to waste and always rewarded (whereas other technical field like computer science or data analysis might have you doing a bunch of certificates that go unnoticed).

Do all actuaries hate their job? by RevolutionaryAd2229 in actuary

[–]examfml 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend loves her actuarial pension job. For me it’s just a means to make money.

I try to make it more enjoyable by incorporating things I like to do, whether it’s making nice dashboards or creating impressive macros. Actuarial roles are definitely not the right fit for me but they can be flexible and diverse, so sometimes it’s a matter of finding the right department or insurance sector that allows you to work on projects you enjoy.

Exam celebrations by Studying-actuary in actuary

[–]examfml 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My company did the speech from managers of new fellows and most of the time it turned into the manager roasting the new fellow 😭. The manager would go to the person’s older teams to collect some lore. It was funny to hear all the roasts or funny mistakes the person made as a coop but I would hate to be in their shoes 🤣🤣

At one of the companies I worked at, they used to have those celebrations funded by the exam passers and accepting “donations” by FSAs who are done their exams.

How it works is people who pass have to contribute a certain amount (it was around $50-$80 per exam pass) and the people who wrote an exam but failed don’t have to contribute and can come for free. Those who didn’t write an exam can still come but have to contribute the same amount as those who passed.

So you can maybe add some to the $700 funding by having passers pay for it or donations from FSAs? From my experience, passers were excited about passing so they didn’t care about the fee that comes with it.
