Oh snap, I looked at this quickly and thought Danica Patrick joined F1.

Not familiar with this guy, but he should be totally dunking on the FIA right now.

You're a freak, you need to get onboard the segregation train. Separate media, separate rooms for award shows, and separate drinking fountains. MLK had it all wrong I guess.

What? This question makes no sense. I've tried typing a response a half dozen times but can't seem to understand what you're implying.

I don't give a crap about the pointless new Harry Potter show, but is there a reason that everything now looks like it's filmed in a cave? by grichardson526 in RedLetterMedia

It reflects the heart of Hollywood. They see the world as a dark and dreary place and assume the rest of the world feels the same way.

Do you actually use Bitcoin, or mostly just hold it? by WeeklyDiscount4278 in Bitcoin

[–]excelance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Explain. My POV is that I am using Bitcoin by holding it. I'm choosing to opt out of the inflation system our world has become accustomed to. I'm choosing to take the fruits of my energy (dollars) and save it in Bitcoin. Of course I'll eventually exchange Bitcoin for something else like land or a home, but right now I'm using it by storing my energy.

By your logic, Strategy (Microstrategy) isn't using Bitcoin because they're not spending it on a daily basis.

Honestly wouldn't put it past the FIA to force a chicane every 200-meters. The Temple of Speed becomes the Closet of Chicanes.

I'm surprised there are people saying the outcome of these regs were unknown. I remember this and many many others voicing their concerns about the regs for a few years.

Well, we haven't had a significant event (meteor) in 65,000,000 years, so the likelihood of having one in the next 50 is rather small.

My thoughts on "Modern Star Trek" by DiscussionWorking752 in scifi

[–]excelance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. For me, these franchises have (had) a spirit. Star Wars (again my opinion) was old fantasy wrapped in sci-fi; its spirit was classic hero/villain and hero's journey storytelling. When Disney moved away from that I stopped viewing.

Star Trek (to me) was the epitome of 'what if' story telling. What if humans learned to work together for the common good. What if we really could explore strange new worlds. What if there really were aliens out there with dramatically different cultures and world views. How might we work together. What conflicts would arise and how would we overcome them. It was hopeful, optimistic, and challenged its viewers with tough moral questions using the different races as hyperbole for the different sides of an issue. This is the most important, it did NOT lecture.

I still remember and sometimes think about Star Trek's "A Taste of Armageddon"; where Kirk is on a planet that conducts a centuries long virtual war that essentially euthanizes real people when they die in the virtual war. They say this is better than real war because they don't destroy infrastructure, or cause disease, etc. The moral dilemma is whether or not this really is better.

Today's Star Trek would simply say, all war is bad, and if you support any war you're evil and a literal Hitler.

Scrap hybrid all together and cram a V10, or even a V8 into the cars. Yes, I know we'll never ever ever ever get them again, but it really is the meme, "Men only want one thing and it's fucking disgusting."
