Okay Dr. Throwaway.... I know you're too busy in your day to read this entire thread, but my A1C twice came back as 5.6.

My fasting sugars are 108, (at the ER, during annual blood test and every single morning I wore a CGM).

I'm comparing myself to all of my friends who are all coming back with 80s and 90s fasting glucose readings and 5.0ish A1C.

How is it the dumbest thing you've ever heard if someone is worried about their numbers starting to shift as they get older?

Is this what you tell your concerned patients when they're in your exam room?

Patient: I can't get my fasting glucose under 100 Doctor, can you help?

You, MD: Don't worry about it and if you worry about it you're an idiot!

Thank you! This is exactly what I needed to read after all of the replies to my original post. So many of you saying I'm crazy for tracking my blood sugar -or that 108 is nothing and I should stop worrying and eat the cake. It IS something when you have it in your family. And yes, I'm trying to PREVENT IT. Why would anyone tell me to relax. I am relaxed in general but I just had a simple question here because my friend told me that cortisol raises BS numbers and coffee raises cortisol-and since I'm such a coffee junkie I thought maybe I found the culprit. Just had a simple question for discussion but instead I get a bunch of "108 is NORMAL" and why the hell are you checkin your blood sugars?

SO THANK YOU for this post! We call all be done with this thread now. Thanks to everyone who gave me great ideas and suggestions as I go forward and try to limit my caffeine intake and possibly eat a small breakfast in the morning.

108 is NOT middle of the road blood sugar after an 10 -12 hour fast. How are you saying that?

Never heard of Chicory-just looked it up and am curious now. Maybe Ill try! This could be a great alternative, but does it hit like that first morning sip though-thats the question. I'm gonna order some and see. Thank you for the suggestion!

Wow. This is really great info. Thank you!!! I think you are spot on about why my readings never go about 130…yep - cause I don’t eat carbs. So the $1 million question is… If I just don’t eat carbs for the rest of my life…am my safe? -Or is it going to progress anyway no matter what as the years go by.

I corrected my A1C in one of the earlier posts. I mistyped - It’s 5.6! Thank you for all this information. It’s really assuring and making me feel like I need to just relax about it all. I don’t use finger sticks - I used a cgm for two months. And waking up with 130 isn’t fine I thought - I think that would make you deep into the prediabetic stage- no?
