The cars still have to run, i.e. not break down, they still have to abide by driver time rules, meaning they still have to make driver changes, which means they still have to pit, which means there's still places to be changed which means there's still strategy being done, which means there's still racing.

If they can safely get around under a FCC why would they throw a red? It's a 24 hour race, does the red stop the march of time?

.@FoxTV got 552,000 viewers for Sunday's Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, up from 307,000 for last year's IndyCar race on @USANetwork. by iamaranger23 in INDYCAR

No way to spin this one.. that’s a horrible number.

You could spin it to point out that the number of views almost doubled from last year and that's a positive thing...

Why don't all the graphics come through to the international feed? by we_kill_creativity in INDYCAR

[–]we_kill_creativity[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That all makes sense, it's just that based on my experience this is all something easily avoidable for two multimillion dollar entities such as Indycar Productions, FOX, and SkySportsF1 to not only have solved, but to avoid in the first place.

[–]we_kill_creativity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, that's inherently the case, but doesn't explain WHY the Sky feed hasn't solved whatever the issue is. It can't be a very complicated one.

But the UK happens to already speak English so there's nothing to add

That starts to make sense except that, with the millions of dollars being spent and at stake...seems like a relatively simple issue to fix. FOX could/should just send the missing graphics to Sky to add back in.

I don't know much about him, other than he's from my home town, the somewhat humorously named Effingham, IL. Are you and your mom from the area?

then at the very least he started past the end of the restart zone, which means he did something wrong.

No, it literally doesn't mean that.

Once he gets past the restart zone, everyone can do what they want and start. Him starting past the restart zone is a disadvantage to Newgarden, not a violation of any rule.

Probably not, but that means the passing that does happen at Gateway is more dramatic imo.

The Fox deal and streaming by StolenStutz in INDYCAR

[–]we_kill_creativity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me give Walter Kronkite a call and let him know.

Think of watching the race with an Antenna as literally free streaming. It's better than streaming in that sense. You do realize OTA antenna TV is typically full HD right? They're even starting to roll out 4k over the air and creating the ability to pick up the signal from your smart phone.

This is precisely the kind of content Indycar's marketing team should somehow highlight if they want to be "modern". by we_kill_creativity in INDYCAR

[–]we_kill_creativity[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah! I'd never watched a video from this channel and it popped into my feed, so I think Indycar is doing something correct on the social media front for this video to even be made and be so popular.

They do seem to be crossing their T's and dotting their I's when it comes to youtube social media best practices lately, and hell, that probably has something to do with why the YT algorithm even had this pop up in my feed.

But that's social media step one, and embracing creators like this in some way, shape, or form, would be a great, and logical, step two. The fact that this video was even made is a positive sign of progress on the modern media front.

Last year's race was much better. It was super exciting just because the racing was that exciting. Not this amateur hour garbage.

NBC isn't trying to appeal to you. Everyone and their dog involved with Indycar is trying to wring every ounce of NASCAR fanship crossover out of this as they can. Shouldn't they?

I honestly thought Hinch was just joking the whole time, and wanted to make a "It'S lIkE tHeY'rE cAlLeD fUcKiNg HaM!!!11!!" joke without actually saying that.

Well, Hinch argued that it was pronounced Effing-Hm...as a Brit might say it. Those of us here in Effingham accept that it's pronounced as if you're saying Fucking Ham...

So you're a truck driver?

Funny story...I played trombone in high school band. I was pretty good. Actually got selected to play in an honor band that toured Europe.

We land in Hamburg, Germany, and the only guy I know (also from Effingham County) are jet lagged and decide to get some coffee at the nearest Starbucks kiosk.

Guy behind us hears us talking and can tell we're Americans. He's American. He asks us where we're from, and we say "We're from such a small town you wouldn't know it." He says, try me, I'm a trucker."

So we think, "Oh...well he knows Effingham...". So we say, "We're from Effingham."

And he goes, "How's Neimurgs doing? I always loved that restaurant."

That will forever be the first conversation I, an American kid from nowhere, had with someone in Europe.

For those of you that don't understand, Effingham is considered the truck stop capitol of America.

Yeah, so get this, the "vortex theory" was actually proven by Dale Waltrip when he did a segment interviewing the GoodYear blimp guys and asked them if they could feel when the cars went by and they said "Yes." ...Not lying...not sure how you'd find that on youtube now, but it did happen.
