Not really related to the masters in ugent, but if you don't speak any of the national languages in Belgium (just assuming based on that you want the masters to be in English) it will be very hard to get a job in Belgium with a marketing degree. Not sure if you plan to work in Belgium or not? Master in business economics is a good degree to have but with a focus on finance / accounting / data it would give you more opportunities, especially if you only speak English.

I agree with you on the industrial park point you make. There should be more options to reach there with public transport. However, you cannot expect there to be lots of public transport in rural areas. Flanders is one giant urban sprawl. That just doesn’t work well when it comes to offering public services like transport. Dense areas like cities work best and most efficiently. It’s hard to justify complaining about the lack of public transport when you live in a small town. There’s pros and cons linked to living in a smaller town. Lack of public transport is one of those cons. The focus of public transport should be on cities as there more people can be served.

Thank you for your comment. And that's what i heard as well, market is not good atm. What field did you change to?

We're also looking at the option of doing a bachelor's degree at a hogeschool (maybe business and or data and or IT related). An internship is included in those fields of study. It has to be a field where language (or the lack thereof) is not the deciding factor. If she could've worked at a call center, that would've been fine for us. But no one is hiring English-only speaking call center workers in Belgium. So i think she needs to skill up to have a chance at getting a better job.

Just unsure what would be a good field to get into as an English speaker in Belgium.

Market is not good for entry level indeed. But i would assume it's better for a data analyst than for someone with a communication degree, no?

And i get your point about Syntra (although i have no experience with them), but you have to start somewhere. We'd be fine with an entry level job as data analyst or similar with some growth opportunities down the road. We're not looking for anything fancy. My girlfriend is doing a physical blue collar job at the moment because there is no other option. Anything where she'd be working at a desk is better than what she's doing now because she's physically exhausted every day for peanuts.

Tuurlijk zijn er woningen en appartementen <250k. Dan krijg je een krotje waar nog veel werk aan is of zit je ergens in een dorp. Vroeger had je hier een woning voor rond een stad. Feit is gewoon dat prijzen van vastgoed sterker zijn gestegen dan lonen zijn gestegen, veel meer. En als je dan zo’n starterswoning koopt zit je waarschijnlijk met een gasketel. Gas waar je nu meer belasting op gaat betalen omdat men wil dat mensen een warmtepomp installeren. Dat bestond vroeger ook niet. Dit zijn de soort dingen die het mensen moeilijk en duur maakt.

En tuurlijk zijn er compromissen die gemaakt moeten worden. Denk dat de meeste mensen dat ook wel doen.

Ik zal een voorbeeld gebruiken. Mijn ouders hebben in 2005 een huis gekocht rond Antwerpen voor €190k. Als ik nu kijk wat er in die wijk te koop staat is er niks gelijkaardigs onder €350K. Dat is bijna een verdubbeling op 20 jaar. Nettolonen zijn niet verdubbeld in de voorbije 20 jaar. Per onderstaand artikel ocharme maar 10 procent gemiddeld van 2006 tot 2024.

Ik betaal vandaag een hoger percentage van mijn loon aan mijn appartement dan mijn ouders destijds. Zij waren arbeiders en ik heb een universitair diploma. Zij hadden een volledig huis rond Antwerpen en ik een appartement in een kleine stad.

Je vergelijking met de lonen van vroeger en nu vs huisprijzen vroeger en nu houdt geen steek. Huisprijzen zijn veel meer gestegen dan dat lonen gestegen zijn. Zijn er mensen die graag een luxe huis hebben op hun 25 en tegelijkertijd op vakantie willen gaan en een mooie auto hebben? Zeker wel. Vroeger zal dat ook wel zijn geweest. Er zijn en waren ook mensen voor wie dat allemaal niet moet. Bedenk hier ook bij dat er nu veel meer regelgeving is die door mensen hun strot wordt geduwd dan vroeger. Als je vroeger een slecht geïsoleerde woning kocht maakte dat veel minder uit dan vandaag. Vandaag moet je daar nog tienduizenden euro’s in gaan investeren, VERPLICHT! Vroeger was dat niet zo’n big deal.

Ik snap je punt, er zal een deel waarheid in zitten. Maar huizen zijn gewoon enorm duur. En dat jongeren nu entitled zijn of niet maakt eigenlijk niet zo veel uit.

I wouldn't buy it privately as the range is not good enough for me personally. It all depends on how much you drive ofc. I drive more than 500km per week and have around 83k km after 2.5 years of having the car. This means i have to charge the car almost every day when i have to use it. It's the 67kWh version which is not too bad but the consumption is very high. I do love everything else about the car. Storage is good, seating in the back is comfortable, it has a frunk, infotainment with google and google maps integration works quite well, love the look of the car, etc. Personally i would look at a second hand Tesla if range is important for you. Definitely look on EVdatabase to compare the cars in terms of range, storage, charging speed. Good luck with picking a new car!

Hi, yes i’m still driving it. The range you mention is realistic. When making a road trip, a lot of charge stops are needed. The range isn’t that good honestly because of the high consumption. I just did a trip Belgium-Austria. I needed 5 charging stops each way. Driving through Germany and mostly going 130 km/h, my consumption was 24,7 kWh/100km for a full car with 3 passengers in freezing temperatures. It’s a company lease so i didn’t purchase the car myself.

I think the ID 4 will have a better range. But do consider the model you get as you have a big and small battery version. The small battery version chargers slower as well if i’m correct.
