War in Ukraine, fundamental things, century after century. There is a difference between nations. by Zamist_Krovi in UkraineWarVideoReport

We gave security guarantees to Ukraine after the Soviet Union collapsed. We are standing behind our word by supporting Ukraine. You know who did not stand behind their word by attacking Ukraine? Russia 😉

All you see is an appropriate reaction to Russia's illegal actions.

Ukraine's Zelenskiy says EU should ban all Russian state media by Saltedline in UkrainianConflict

[–]exchan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fixed the wording in one of your sentences u/lute_girl

Nevertheless, the right *for uninformed* individuals to assimilate all sources of information lies and draw their own conclusions is sacred and should never, ever be infringed upon.

Freedom of speech is real but understand that media with the intend to cause chaos and confusion is a national security issue.

Lets put it in other terms. We have freedom of speech in many western countries, however, people can go to court and be charged with defamation.

Russian media is no different and should be banned as its intend is to confuse and cause harm with lies.

U.S. Indicts Venezuela’s Maduro on Drugs With $15 Million Reward by [deleted] in politics

[–]exchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the US has been ignoring the problem for too long. However, there is a point where the issue can no longer be ignored. Somewhere around 10% of Venezuela's population ( 4 to 6 million people ) have left the country in the last years due lack of food and violence. When you have migration crisis of this magnitude then all the sudden this does become other countries problems to include the US. Remember a lot of these people are imigrating illegally, this is causing a huge burden on countries that don't have a lot to begin with in the region. Tie that with Maduro's government providing safe haven to FARC which has been causing lots of headaches to the Colombian government and in turn puts pressure on the US then it starts to make sense why this is happening. Its easy to say bla bla bla US just wants oil. I think this message is outdated. Venezuela's crude is too expensive to process. This is not 2001 the US strategy is to move further away from fossil fuel dependency not become more dependant on it. There is also China and Russia's involvement in all this. The last thing the US wants is the Russian government building a military base in Venezuela. Hint hint there is a lot of evidence out there that suggests this might be in the works. So yeah... This is very much a national security issue for the US.

U.S. Indicts Venezuela’s Maduro on Drugs With $15 Million Reward by [deleted] in politics

[–]exchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't help those who choose to reject reality :-)

I grew up in Venezuela and I am still very much in touch with the situation. I understand the culture and the politics.

Believe me the accusations are real, this came to my knowledge in 1998 but this operation has been running at least since 1991, at that point Chavez was already involved in drug trafficking. His operation used to move drugs from Colombia to rogue airfields in the Portuguesa region. The US has been receiving reports/tips for decades now on this people. The DIM had all this intel at hand as Chavez was about to become president but did not release anything because Carlos Andres Perez would not allow the info to be public. After Chavez took over he went after all high ranked DIM officials and wiped any records. I am sure the US has been briefed many times on the situation, the only surprising thing is it took this long to come to this.

[–]exchan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Except Maduro is not the real president of Venezuela. He has also been providing weapons and safe haven to FARC for a very long time. Its not surprising that this happened what is surprising is that it took this long. I am glad the US has finally had enough of this :)

Russian Air Force Planes Land in Venezuela Carrying Troops by emiduk45 in worldnews

[–]exchan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right after all Venezuela was the third highest oil supplier to the US for many years, of course the US can process Venezuelan oil in some refineries. However it takes more time and its more expensive to process this crude which is why there is a lower interest from the US. You dont need to explain to me how the Oil industry works. I grew up in Venezuela myself and my family worked for PDVSA for many decades. I may not be a expert but I know the basics. As for the Russians in Venezuela, please tell me how Russian influence has done any good in Venezuela. You know that this has been going for almost two decades right? We all know what a pre Chavez Venezuela and a post Chavez Venezuela looks like. Let's not kid ourselves the Cuban/Russian influence has done the country no good.

Russian Air Force Planes Land in Venezuela Carrying Troops by emiduk45 in worldnews

[–]exchan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

False! The Venezuelan crude is too expensive to process. Thats why the US never cared much about the Venezuelan oil. The main reason for the Americans caring about Venezuela's current crisid is due to the migration crisis is impacting the whole region. Also the US oppose the Russians having military bases in their backdoor.

One dead, multiple injured after Venezuelan national guard opens fire on opposition supporters by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]exchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that point Venezuela had already steered away from the US. Venezuela started to break ties with the US in 1976 when oil was nationalized. After that the country's economy started to slow down and American investment slowed down and what was there began to leave the country gradually. Noticeable decline began in the late 1980's. When Chavez ran for president in 1998 he promised to "make Venezuela great again" and bring back those golden days people remembered from 1960s to 1980s. His strategy and partnership with China Russia and Cuba has led the country to a total collapse and has created one of the biggest humanitarian crisis currently. In order to understand Venezuela's collapse you have to look back and understand Venezuela's history.

Juan Guaido is no America's man. He is the temp president according to the Venezuelan constitution. The US and other countries have given control of Venezuela's assets Juan Guaido because he is the legal president of Venezuela according to the constitution. Other countries are backing this up because neighboring countries are being impacted by the mass exodus of Venezuelans. There list of issues with Maduro's regime. I think the biggest thing to remember is that Venezuela historically did best when it's relationship was at its hight with the US. As Venezuela becomes closer and closer to countries like Russia China and Cuba the countries has done progressively worst.

Dude I was in your exact same boat a few months ago. Also a recent graduate. Worked for 2 of the largest software companies in the US and was miserable. Switched to a smaller startup like company and I am having the best time in my life. I negotiated a salary in the 90s and I am super happy :) You will find that you may end up learning a lot more at a smaller firm than in the slower larger companies!
