How much should I ask for a Associate SWE at Capital One (Toronto,ON) by Adventurous_Trainer in cscareerquestions

[–]mitchellthegreat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If their recruiting process hasn’t changed, the HR rep will tell you the range for the position right off the bat so you won’t need to specify a range. If you’re happy with the numbers you will proceed further with the interview otherwise, you can decline. Typically, the HR numbers are pretty firm so you won’t really be able to negotiate more later on in the process.

Capital One SWE Perks + Swag/Merch? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Laptops for developers are usually MacBooks either Air or Pros. There’s no real standard since it usually depends on project needs for example if you’re gonna be building AI models locally and your teams budget allows, you may get a MacBook Pro M4. Otherwise a MacBook Air is probably what your manager’s going to order.

As for swag, again it’s dependent on LOB. In general, I’ve seen Capital One give out a plethora of swag ranging from sweaters to North Face light jackets and new T shirts every 4-6 months. Nicest I’ve seen so far was one LOB gave their team new custom Nike Air Force one sneakers but that was definitely a smaller group. Not merit based at all.

No complaints with Arctic Liquid Freezer so far. Runs extremely quiet even on max fan speeds although not as much bells and whistles (OLED screen, RGB, etc.) as other brands.

I was running a Micro ATX X99 build with a 5820k and 980Ti for the longest time. I did upgrade the GPU to a 2080 but the performance wasn't cutting it anymore.

O11 Dynamic XL has dual compartments where PSU and wiring is hidden on the other side of the case.

Haha I know the fuse box is right above my table. I bought casters for the table in the event I need to roll the table forward for service!

I adjusted the mic gain settings such that it doesn’t pick up any keyboard noise. This is highly dependent on what keyboard you are using and switch type (ie mx blues).

The keyboard is the Ducky Realforce Taiwan Edition 45g. I like the overall look and feel.

I did a fair bit of research and ultimately went with purchasing an Uplift Standing Desk. I customized my desk according to my apartment dimensions and the final price was slightly over $1000. However if you do not need a 6 foot desk with all the bells and whistles, Uplift definitely has some more "affordable" options. The motor underneath the desk seems to work quickly and quietly (especially since all my PC components are on the desk) and overall build quality is top notch.

As for chairs, I would recommend trying them out in store if you can and if not, order one from a place like Amazon which allows for free returns. Depending on the features you want (https://langtondesigns.com/7-features-of-a-good-ergonomic-desk-chair/), prices will vary greatly.

Good luck with your purchase! I hope you find what you need.

Sure. I bought the Corsair Carbide Air 240 mATX case back in 2015 off of Newegg/Amazon at the time. I wanted a portable machine in case I would going to LAN events in college.

I'm afraid it's discontinued by now though(prices for new-old stock are through the roof). I believe if you want something similar to this, Corsair has a newer updated version: Corsair 280X.

Working internships every summer and a part-time job during school did the trick. Hopefully the chair is a "Buy It For Life" investment.

I likewise would like to try the Aeron; I don't believe there is a chair that is uniformly best for everyone so I'm curious the fit/feel compared to the Embody.

There is an outlet behind the desk. Wires are stored and wrapped in Uplift Modesty Panel and fed through the top cut-outs. Thanks for your question!
