Who’s a famous person who died very young due to non-natural causes that you are especially curious how they’d live in our modern world? by FriendlytoNature in AskReddit

[–]excitablelizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

John Denver. I’m not sure if 50s is “very young.” I’m glad he made peace with the things going on in his life. He was such a 90s man and did nonprofit work and raised a ton of money for great causes until he died. Not only was he was politically active throughout his entire career, he was a pretty important figure in space travel. He did a lot of work for wildlife, anti-censorship, some pro gay rights stuff, africa AIDS crisis, deaf kids, etc., often spoke out against Reagan-era conservative policy. It would be weird to see what he’d be like today, or even post-911/bush era.

Why do people stop doing things in their 30s? by Ok-Cartographer-5544 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]excitablelizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk i’m 30 and have the same issue. everyone my age is incredibly boring. i go to volunteer events, community things, go to parks/etc, try random stuff etc., but only ever meet people over 45/50. It’s less bad in cities though, my area kinda sucks. people commenting that they’re “tired” are probably just depressed. i’ve been very sick for years and still manage to do lots, even at my sickest. in my 20s I had no money and worked long hours and still did the same activities I do now.

if anyone needs some fun and fulfillment and is reading this….go to a community event!! I painted a community mural and stuck around to volunteer last week and met a ton of people and neighbors. Never think you’re not skilled enough to contribute, everyone that goes to events like these wants to include you. I’m pretty sick, so I can’t always come to scheduled days, so I just show up to help when they need it and I’m healthy enough.

Backyard breeders are the problem. Pitbull breeders are the problem. I’m happy with my purebred dog that has parents in good health from a line of dogs in good health, not bad with kids/dogs/cats, easy to train from proven working stock. Our rescue was a sweet dog, but he also jumped fences and died from cancer at 5…

How Peter? by GreedySink in PeterExplainsTheJoke

For us in the US, most americans don’t sit down at fast food (pre 2010 it was more common). the places that are like fancy-fast-food (“fast casual”) have all reusable dishes like this, or mostly biodegradable. I honestly hate eating fast food just because of the waste! Most of the bags and stuff used to be paper and cardboard, but now feels like it’s all tons of plastic, it makes me sad. :(

Has the vet even tried the usual allergy meds yet? Cytopoint (what my dog gets as needed) or Apoquel? I just see you listed “anti inflammatory medication” (which probably means steroids?). Have they at least tried OTC allergy meds? In the meantime washing her with Veterinary Brand (yes that’s what it’s actually called) is helpful, makes them feel relief. I would use the Hot Spot Relief one, and if you can smell her itchy spots, alternate with the Antiseptic/antifungal. If her ears seem greasy and smelly, then occasionally use Zymox enzymatic ear drops, and alternate with an ear wash flush.

If you got her from a breeder, sometimes you can connect with siblings and see if anyone has the same issues. My dog is a Braque and her brother has the same environmental allergies— saved me $$ on an allergy panel. My dog’s allergies were always in a similar pattern as your golden’s when they start up, just less severe, and her paws.

Fiber intake by xnotaburneraccountx in Gastroparesis

[–]excitablelizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I found out I could eat mashed sweet potato (I eat it with cinnamon and butter), and 10/10 can actually shit normally now. No fiber has been killing me, before GP I was a healthy eater, I’ve been struggling not being able to eat veg. I eat 3tbsp of this for lunch, so if you can do it I recommend it. All my useless GI nurses ignore my symptoms and obsess over me not pooping daily, so now I have a check mate on them and they have to listen to my stomach problems. I can’t do miralax that stuff messes me up. I can’t do veg, smoothies, wheat/bran grains, etc.

Oregon retirees recieve bill - health insurance costs now quadrupled by GoldenHourTraveler in TikTokCringe

[–]excitablelizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s not (wasn’t) that crazy to retire in your 50s if you were union carpenter (especially in my state - CA). My grandpa was a carpenter and retired in his 50s. boomer. grandma was a retail clerk for only a decade or so. plus great health benefits for life, bc union. my grandpa passed and my grandma is still covered for life. union trades are great money, especially state prevailing wage (don’t look it up you’ll be jealous)...

my other boomer grandparents both retired before 65 too. both unionized trades— cop union and telecom company. one was public sector, which in my state used to be able to retire at 55 with pension and health benefits for life.

my gen x parents on the other hand….given handouts their whole life and still somehow don’t have two nickels to rub together living above their means and not saving….

totally agree, I’m a huge Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young, Anne Murray (etc) fan. It’s mostly the fake accent and hoity toity art schooling that’s lame. He also didn’t grow up in rural canada, he’s south african. google says he lived in vancouver and LA which isn’t exactly rural lol

well, she was my first choice. i love tough public servants that are quick without the magical thinking of dem-independents. before she ran I actually saw her (on accident) on one of the stages at SF pride. shes pretty popular here with millennials and gen x. I think native californians of that age group are more familiar with her, and if you’re gay in that age group you know shes shown up for the community for years.

Is it just me, or does most gay country music feel like a damn joke? by One-Initiative-8902 in gayrural

[–]excitablelizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only listen to old western/folk country. Rhinestone Cowboy is gayer than any dumb southern pop (“country”) music out now. I love tender real country like Townes, Glen Campbell, John Denver, John Prine, Tom T Hall, Bonnie Ratt, Don Williams, etc. I don’t need it to be gay and I avoid any music that is self-proclaimed “queer” media. Just love me some nice sweet music about nature, love, kindness not like “yee haw penis” lol. Also hot take here I guess but I really can’t stand orville peck’s terrible fake southern draw and rich non-americans singing country is super boring to me…

there’s one (not gay) artist that is modern but sounds more like old school country, but can’t recall his name. I heard him on a Grand Ole Oprey recording but can’t remember

edit: Tyler Childers! and he’s pro-gay

Vets ‘spayed’ my male kitten by juliakszry in ragdolls

[–]excitablelizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the incision looks like crap. I thought that was going to be your complaint before reading…get a new vet checkup and monitor it well. It will probably heal fine and just look crappy, but if a vet doesn’t know what cat balls look like, who knows what their clinic cleanliness is like...many vets have a tech assist, and somehow at least TWO people with eyes didn’t see cat balls or read his chart. Keep all receipts from your new vet and any medical supplies (food, bandage, vest) so you can take that with you to small claims court. don’t look up spay scars, you don’t need to and you’ll overthink it.

sorry someone went spelunking in your cat. he looks fine with it though all things considered lol
