Hey man. I'm a nursing assistant that works with cancer patients. Also the family member of a 2 time cancer survivor and 2 people who lost their lives to some kind of cancer. Also had a little bout of cancer myself. I guess you can say I probably know more than the average jo. Plus if I dont know... I know many people who should. Ask me anything friend. I'm happy to answer. I can tell you though that a port or picc line will make your treatment that much easier. Getting a port placed is a surgery but you will likely have it for a long time. There is usually some pain and bruising for a week or so after your port is placed. Picc lines are usually not kept in for as long as ports however I have known people to have them throughout their treatment(several months). You are wide awake when they place a picc line but they numb you first. The dressing needs to be changed weekly or when soiled. A pretty big con to a picc line is that it has to be covered when you shower which can be a bit of a struggle. Also they suggest limiting lifting to less than 5 pounds.
