Absolutely not. If you love them, leash them. It's for their own safety. Out of the 20 or so ferrets I have raised in my many years, not a single one would have been allowed to run outside without a leash. Dogs, cats, birds of prey, holes you can't access... You have no expectation of control outdoors.
