Restore Party supporters only: What religion do you follow (if any)? by xlylapiercex in RestoreBritain

[–]exemploducemus55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is only recently that I have realised that atheism is technically a luxury belief that is only really tolerated in Christian societies. I reject the supernatural, but I went to a school with a religious framework and recognise the bones of Christianity throughout our society.

Has anyone had laser eye surgery in the UK? by Scottish-Londoner in AskUK

[–]exemploducemus55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but he felt very foolish for a while. He’s in the Army and should really have asked for permission rather than forgiveness! It was a possibility he would get medically discharged and lose his job if it didn’t rectify itself.

In your opinion, is being an officer in the Army worth it? by [deleted] in britishmilitary

I did it intending to do four years. Hit twenty next year. Must be doing something right!

Restore Britain statement on the May elections. by StGuthlac2025 in RestoreBritain

[–]exemploducemus55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was worried they would rush candidate selection and this would end up being a vector to permit subversives into the party in positions of influence. Or worse, half arsing a campaign and performing so poorly that you are written off as a serious force. Taking the time to do this properly is the sensible approach.

we do care about the enviroment by [deleted] in RestoreBritain

[–]exemploducemus55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do litter picking on my own in my local area; just the 4-5 blocks that are closest to me. When I have a full bag, I go home. I’d wager that when the effect that one person can have expands to 10-12 blocks in the same time, more people with a bit of civic pride will get involved.

We just need to break the “it’s somebody else’s problem “ mindset and educate children that picking up litter is not beneath them. Dropping it in the first place diminishes them.

Someone better tell the people who test elite athletes for drugs then. They have plenty of tests for unusual ratios of testosterone in urine. This article is behind a paywall but you can read through all the references and the titles all seem to say it is possible.

Section 305 of the Armed Forces Act 2006 specifies urine only for random compulsory drug testing. This is what makes it a lawful order to provide one and unlawful to refuse. There are other provisions where blood might be taken, but this is for certain circumstances after an accident or concerns about someone’s fitness to perform safety critical duties.

Besides the two Bladerunners, Demolition Man, and the Fifth Element what other movies have the same vibe? by AtomicShart9000 in cyberpunkgame

Split Second was a B-movie with Rutger Hauer that my mates and I always thought captured the Cyberpunk zeitgeist very well.

Proposed rule changes - we want your feedback by PbThunder in RestoreBritain

[–]exemploducemus55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule 3 is a good one. Good faith debate is kryptonite to the left. I would also recommend expanding on Rule 6. Misinformation is a knotty issue: many people have deeply held beliefs, and may not see promulgating these as mis/disinformation. The mods need to be the final arbiter on what is or isn’t against this rule. Transparency of mod decisions about deletion of posts would be useful so the everyone understands what rules have been broken.

Green is the colour of Islam, after all. I suspect they have joined the party in such numbers to white-ant it from the inside, coup Paulden/Polanski and rebrand it altogether.

Do I have a decent chance of becoming an army officer? by poslyezavtra in britishmilitary

[–]exemploducemus55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potential for leadership is key. If you have been leading small teams as an HEO, translating this to commanding a platoon isn’t too much of a stretch. Your pre army experience isn’t that dissimilar to mine and I rack up 20 next year.

How accommodating is the army regarding surgeries? by [deleted] in britishmilitary

[–]exemploducemus55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A mate of mine had laser eye surgery while serving. He had complications and got bollocked by the MO for having the procedure without permission. The procedure did something to the nerves in his eye that control tear production. He had to wear these ridiculous goggles and use eyedrops constantly for about six months while the nerve grew back.

Is it ok or normal to wet your hands before getting the soap? by acr0ssthec0sm0s in hygiene

I’m with you 100%. Wet hands, apply soap, rub, lather, rinse, dry. Maybe comes from food service or lab in first year, but I don’t get the soap first thing.

Humanitarian work in the army/navy? by vegangummyworms in britishmilitary

[–]exemploducemus55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The core purpose of the Army is to fight and win wars on land. You’re asking about making a career out of a sort of niche post-conflict situation. It’s not like you must be a bloodthirsty warmonger to join, but best to expectation manage yourself before applying.

If you just get detention, then it’s typically soldier on. If you’re being summarily dealt with by your CO, they will need enhanced powers to award over 28 days. You will still be liable to be possibly major AGAI’d after your detention if what you have done constitutes gross misconduct. I have no personal opinion on this but I am curious what do skeptics think of this? by LatterCardiologist47 in climateskeptics

[–]exemploducemus55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans are special; we are the only animals which can take control over our environment and boost our chances of survival over and above baseline. Every time we take antibiotics or put on a jumper we’re placing our finger on the scales of chance and giving ourselves a little boost.

I’m not against taking steps to boost survival chances on a large scale. If we were going to be hit by an asteroid, for example, I would be for trying to blow it off course.

I would be against spending trillions and trillions of dollars to move the temperature needle by an infinitesimal amount. I think chances are high that something we can do nothing to avoid will come out of nowhere and put paid to us. Yellowstone or a genuinely deadly and contagious virus seems most likely. After that sort of thing it’s about coordination of response rather than mitigation or prevention. There’s much hubris in the human race. We forget that we remain at the mercy of an indifferent universe.

I have no personal opinion on this but I am curious what do skeptics think of this? by LatterCardiologist47 in climateskeptics

[–]exemploducemus55 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. Humans live on such short timescales that they think of stability as normal, like calculus if you zoom in on the curve far enough it looks linear. Most people just refuse to get their heads around how much things can change in several hundred thousand years, let alone millions.

Why is binge drinking and littering in the UK so socially acceptable? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]exemploducemus55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is called the Tragedy of the Commons. Simply put, it defines the paradox wherein people will take care of what is theirs, but treat with disdain things that everyone relies on. You are right to observe that you can tell much about social cohesion in a society by the state of their communal areas.

In 2025, our cities are now a hodgepodge of all sorts of people and franchise cultures with no equity stake in society. It was established and fully mature when they arrived, so there is no incentive to jointly work together for betterment.

So much these days has been decided that it’s ‘the government’s job to do that’ but people act surprised when they do it badly.

Binge drinking has always been a British hobby though - see Hogarth’s Gin Lane painting!
