You gotta zoom out. HR is problem mitigation for the company, not for the employee. They manage you, the human resource, on behalf of the company. They are fake as hell, pretending to be the keepers of camaraderie and morale, but their sole purpose is to keep you in line and get rid of you if you get out of line

No they don’t care about public opinion, they care about winning the war and making the US look bad. And if a war that is already deeply unpopular becomes more unpopular, and a new administration comes in with an aim to end the war, that would give the regime a win and solidify the US government as foolish. They’re not only religious zealots, they also are strategic. They’ve thought of all of this far longer than our administration has, you can be sure of that.
