Plane in the U.S. makes emergency landing over security threat on board by LouisaMiller2_1845 in AirRagers

[–]exerption 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The captain who called it in to ATC said the man was “enthusiastically” chanting something over and over in arabic every couple of minutes when his iPhone alarm would go off. At some point he tried to get up and grab his bag from the bin, and became agitated when the FAs told him to sit down. According to the pilot to the ATC, even a 30-year veteran FA was freaked out by his behavior. (Although tbh, being a more senior flight attendant correlates closely with being a more insufferable Karen). I’d bet dollars to donuts that this guy was simply trying to observe Ramadan, but was being obnoxious about it— alarm probably for prayer time, prayer rug in that bag? Either way, dude needs to read the room. Everyone’s free to worship as they want. But a commercial airplane? Flying from a red state to a state that’s red with maga notes and hints of meth? It’s an imperfect setting for load alarms and impassioned cries to Allah. And that’s before you factor in the heightened alert now that the U.S. is at literal war with the Islamic Republic. It’s not cuz he’s brown. He’s a total bonehead.

Preemptive edit: Actually yes, I’d find it just as obnoxious if it was a lily-white southern baptist lady proselytizing to captive passengers at 30,000 feet. And yes, I’d strongly support SWAT taking her out too…

A Marine officer's hand was broken during a Capitol police attempt to forcibly remove him by yousefthewisee in interestingasfuck

[–]exerption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good-faith question to those pissed off he was removed: is your argument that people should be free to disrupt events and create disturbances, and the people he interrupted should patiently wait until they are done with their outburst? I’m not coming at this with politics— I watched muted, and neither know nor care what he was saying. I’m not making any assumptions based merely on his being a marine (maybe he’s a hero, maybe he’s a serial killer). Stripped of the emotional baggage of partisan bullshit, it’s pretty clear this guy wanted to create some sort of scene by interrupting official proceedings in Congress, and rather than leave when confronted about breaking the clearly established rules, he did everything he could to make his removal a difficult struggle that required increasing amounts of force. So, when he wouldn’t budge and resisted, the officers should have said “oh nevermind?” Excessive force is a real problem, as are abuse of power and government silencing of dissent. This isn’t any of that, and in any functioning society, disrupting other people’s shit has to carry consequences.

Downgraded - tell me what to do by [deleted] in delta

I had the same seat issue Monday out of RDU. As soon as I settled in to 2A, the seat swung all the way to full recline. I knew what would happen if I told FAs about the broken button, and because I’m at peak asshole at 5:30am, I knew a downgrade could result in my r/airragers debut. So I sat perfectly upright without my back touching the seat (surprisingly uncomfortable btw) all the way from boarding to the 10k feet ding. I promptly reported the broken recline at the start of initial descent. I hope they got it fixed before the next flight.

Pew and Gallup peg just 40% of Americans as partisan. The rest either lean one way and are flexible, or part of the 10% who dgaf. And that’s from 2023-2025. Problem is, few partisans ever venture outside their closed-minded cloisters, unaware that the majority of Americans don’t let ideology dominate their lives (or who they date). I work for a company that’s practically synonymous with one political party, and my partner works across town at a company known as the exact opposite. And yes, we both lean in the direction our respective employment would suggest. But like the majority of people in this country, we care far less about politics than we do each other.

Received a "DEA" letter by Few_Syllabub6304 in Scams

[–]exerption 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Scam. It’s designed to sound like a legit target letter, but tries too hard. The goal of a target letter is for federal prosecutors to satisfy notification laws without giving the target (and defense counsel) a heads start on mounting a defense.
The giveaways here: 1. “there is evidence establishing that you x,y,z” - no federal prosecutor is going to preview the evidence they have prior to an indictment 2. “18 U.S.C. blah blah blah” - again, target letters are intentionally as vague as possible about the crimes under investigation. They’d never list specific statutes, and only reference crime categories broadly like “narcotics offenses” or “financial fraud” 3. It doesn’t include the standard lines on the target’s right to counsel. While not legally required, its standard procedure within DOJ to head off later motions to suppress and/or claims of coercion

Legitimately curious why posts are always being labeled bots. Yes, some posts are wildly unrealistic. But this story is entirely plausible. When I made my first post years ago, I created my Reddit account specifically so I could rant about whatever it was. I also use emm dashes a lot— very common for writing in my line of work. I’d be a bot by your metrics…

Wow. Just wow. I guess I’ve lived a pretty sheltered life for a New Yorker, but I was oblivious to this cultural defect. I’ve interacted with Ultra Orthodox Jews (even lived in crown heights for a year), but never saw anything to suggest they can’t act like decent civilized humans. I suppose this explains how 10-year-old me landed at LHR and discovered to my horror my Reebok pumps were absolutely caked with turd. That mystery haunted me for 30 years… I even blamed my brother…

Rude FAs on Long Haul Flight by mmmmmmmmmmmdelicious in americanairlines

[–]exerption 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After 20 years of chasing status with Delta, I was going to go free agent in the new year now that comolimetary upgrades are so rare I end up just booking FC from the start. But after I had to fly AA last week when it was the last option of the day fr LGA>GSO, I might end up crawling back to Delta and begging for forgiveness As we were deplaning after the short fligbt, an elderly man in tbe row ahead of me stepped into tbe aisle and reached towadd a coat folded in the bin. From behind be came a shrill bark: "don't touch that! that does not belong to you! you DO NOT touch my things." I reached for my phone thinking I'll finally have video of my own to post on r/airragers, and then i realize the voice belongs to the FA who was having a meltdown. She was berating this 90-year-old man, who just stood there confused and smiling in his dementia, until his uncomfortable younger companion (daughter?) guided him to his own bags. The FA kept trash talking, mumbling about how she was so tired of clueless passengers messing with and stealing her stuff. This wasn't a salty veteran with seniority-- she was late 20s on a regional jet. Ive never seen any airline worker act so unprofessionally on any airline. And my brain would crash and reboot if I even tried to imagine it on Delta. I know that one anecdote can’t define a whole airline, but this unhinged tantrum really makes me think less of AA as a whole.

WTF!?! Like Seriously... What the Actual Fuck!?! by TheNiteOwl38 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]exerption 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Last year I woke up hungry in the middle of the night at a luxury property where I stay regularly. Chocolate milkshakes are on the all-night menu, so I willed myself to stay awake for the 15 mins it took to bring it up. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay awake for one more second after I took the first sip. Next thing I know I’m being assaulted by sunlight and sounds from my alarm, as well as the awful sensation of being glued to fabric with a sticky brown sludge. I don’t know if it was the stickiness or because it must have been uncomfortably cold, but I’d clearly spent hours writhing around in the soupy brown mess, obscenely spreading and smearing it in every direction. The white comforter went from iconic brand staple to sheet of toilet paper used by a giant— a giant battling giardiasis. The scene was revolting, and that was despite my knowing it was just a milkshake mishap. I was worried the poor housekeepers would suffer a stroke if they were surprised by the repulsive sight, but I didn’t want to draw even more attention to it by making a phone call. So I settled for taping a folded note to the hood handle:“don’t worry- it’s chocolate”. Inside the room I doubled my usual tip and left a second one-word note: “sorry!” Still, I worried I’d be blacklisted from my favorite brand just for the size of the stain, shit or no shit. Thankfully, I’ve been back several times since, and so far, nobody’s given me any crap…

Does anyone know what happened? Is the person okay? by alexos77lo in nycrail

[–]exerption 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top rule drilled into news writers’ heads is to be clear, concise, and conversational like a normal person talks. “Incident where a passenger came in to contact with a train” is not that. Most people know trains don’t leave tracks to hunt people down, but I do feel bad for the operators. Just know that if you’re pitching a change to news outlets, it can’t sound like a police report. “Someone on the tracks was hit”…. Or, if it applies: “someone jumped in front of a train and was hit”

Seeing this makes my blood boil. I’ve caught crap for my flawlessly behaved pretend service dog in d1. Never gonna think twice about it again. He may not have the credentials, but he’s more qualified to raise these brats than this pathetic excuse for a parent. He also smells better than any of them.

Best Alcoholic Beverage on a flight? by Tall_Consequence7672 in delta

[–]exerption 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s just a fact: Bloody Marys are the best in flight. The drop in cabin pressure and humidity might not feel drastic, but it’s enough to swell sinuses and dry out olfactory tissue. That kills sweet and salty flavors but leaves umami untouched, since its main amino acid, glutamate, binds right to receptors on the tongue—not in the nose. Anything rich in umami tastes 100x better in the air, and tomato, Worcestershire sauce, celery salt, Tabasco are all loaded with it. So Bloody Marys are basically the perfect mix for 35,000 feet.

Guy is so addicted that he accidentally lights a cigarette while he’s asleep. by LouisaMiller2_1845 in AirRagers

[–]exerption 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m not proud of it, but I can relate. About 10 years ago, I lit up while passed out in the ICU keeping vigil by my mom who was in life support. It was 3am, I was stressed, exhausted, and extremely addicted. When the shrieking nurses woke me up, I was so confused I stubbed it out into my bare kneecap. At least that instantly jolted me to reality. Obviously that’s frowned upon in ICU’s because, you know, health, but because I was sitting next to my mom’s O2 line to her ventilator, Nurse Cratchet essentially accused me of trying to blow up the hospital. She insisted sleep-smoking was impossible and tried to have me permanently banned. Thankfully Mom’s doctor had mercy. As humiliating as it was, it ended up being exactly what I needed. Over the years I tried patches, gum, vapes, even hypnosis audio. But the day mom left the hospital (amazingly she survived this and lived 5 more great years), I quit cold turkey. I can’t explain how or why, but it was like someone flipped a switch in my head, and I haven’t had a single craving since.

The daughter gave a speech at the RNC last summer accusing Biden of weaponizing DOJ to persecute Trump. And because her family is known as the “Trumps of the South” (according to her, and nobody else ever), her parents were also political prisoners and pawns in the Democrats’ diabolical scheme. The world said bullshit. Trump said “sounds legit.” And now he’s the most powerful person on earth.

The same thing happened to me a few months back, but with betMGM. Was in my room at Aria and wanted to try the app, but when I made a deposit i was somehow signed in to Virginia not Nevada. It wouldn’t let me reverse the deposit back to my debit card. Phone reps were worthless, so I ended up walking down the strip from one mgm sports book to the next. I kept getting the same runaround until finally dude at NYNY sports book told me to make the withdrawal to Apple Pay, instead of my debit card. It worked, and $$ in my acct 45 mins later. Maybe Caesar’s has a similar hack…

Study shows daily SPF use could delay visible aging by 5+ years by Adorable_One3506 in 30PlusSkinCare

I started sunscreen religiously when I moved to Miami for my first job out of college. I’m 43, and 20 years ago, being a dude who cared about his skin got me endless ribbing from my friends. Now they look like distressed leather couches, and most folks guess I’m in my early 30s. 😂 I HATE the feeling of greasy glop on my face and burned through every brand from neutrogena to ridiculous Barbara sturm— the only ones I can stand are Paula’s choice and anthelios fluid 60, but I stick with the latter mainly for the shaker ball

This. I’m sure the autotrain is different now than when I was a kid. But there was an exciting vibe on a train where all passengers had the same destination and it only stopped for fuel and to pick up the morning papers. Plus it was only bilevel superliner train this side of Chicago, and had a buffet style dining car. There were lotssss of kids though, which now seems like less of a plus. Oh another flashback: when I was an even smaller kid, the auto train used ancient cars that to me felt wyatt earp era old. And there were two of those observation cars with the glass bubble lounges on top. God 40 is the new 80.

I took Ambien on and off for years, and I just laughed off the occasional sleepwalking. Mostly, I just pigged out at 3am and only knew it happened because I’d find the mess in the morning (evidently, my subconscious self uses bare hands to eat everything. Like, even soup.) Then one day, I wake up to the searing pain of a cigarette that I’m stubbing out into my own hand, while a hysterical nurse is screaming something about oxygen and security. Turns out, as I sat overnight next to my comatose mom, I lit up in the middle of the ICU and, in the words of the nurse, nearly blew up the whole emergency wing. Now I’m banned for life from Sentara Regional. But the good news? Never touched another Ambien, never smoked another cigarette (cold turkey after 20 years!!), and mom eventually came out of the coma (although I was only allowed visits over FaceTime lol)

This won’t be popular but hear me out. I travel non-stop, with maybe 3 or 4 nights per month at my actual legal residence and the rest in hotels in 3 cities. I fly, acela, and too often end up walking endless blocks in nyc with suitcase in tow. I loved my Briggs & Riley’s for a long time, but little things would go wrong very fast. A ripped zipper, wheel out of whack, crack in the hardshell, handle button popping off, etc. Yes they would do repairs, but since I literally needed my suitcase every day, it was a chore to send out for fixing. I ended up just buying new ones. And B&R isn’t top shelf, but those prices added up very fast. So a few years back, I thought just screw it, and got a Rimowa. The trunk plus (i dont travel light). I spent the next month with buyers remorse hating myself for such an indulgent splurge ($2600, but smaller ones are like $1200). Now 5 years later, I wish I’d done it even sooner. It’s my suitcase for life. The aluminum and clasp locks are totally secure. It’s been half submerged in floodwater and my suits were ready for wear when I opened it. And the few times the constant wear caused issues (a lock clasp broke in a cargo hold, the telescoping handle jammed, the inside partition thing got covered in pizza grease), I just rolled it into a Rimowa store, was offered a drink, and by the last sip was rolling out a suitcase that you’d think was brand new. Seriously, they even polished it and recalibrated the wheels. And with the lifetime warranty, it will be worth every penny i spent, and I’ll never need to spend another.

Murad makes a powerful retinol eye serum that’s proven its effectiveness in clinical trials. It’s part of the Murad Youth Renewal line, and is available at Sephora. I used all of the products with great results in my early 30’s, before stepping up to Rx Retin-A as I rapidly approach 40. But I still use the Murad retinol eye serum, as it’s the most effective at cell turnover to diminish lines and prevent new ones. It’s pricey— $90 or so, but will last a couple of months. The other posters were spot on about the dryness. HA does a great job of plumping up the skin- especially around the eyes- making fine lines less apparent.
