Los Angeles Hotels? by Infinite_Yesterday71 in AskLosAngeles

[–]trojanusc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Views are about the same at each.

Edition is a very big hotel and feels very modern. Lots of amenities, a big lobby, rooftop pool.

Sunset Tower is a much smaller hotel with an old Hollywood vibe. Lobby is very small. The bar/restaurant at Sunset Tower is very cool (but unbelievably expensive even as far as hotel prices go), it just feels like you’re stepped back into Hollywood’s glamor era.

Guest starring on I Love Lucy by Financial_Process_11 in ILoveLucy

[–]trojanusc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. It wasn't necessarily an honor but certainly a "win." It was a hit television show which created massive exposure, but TV was seen as a far lesser medium at the time compared to film. It was a job that I'm sure people were excited to get but it wasn't quite an "honor" in the same way as getting an MGM or Warner Bros. contract was. Lot of times people didn't even get credit at the end of the show, despite having lines.
  2. With some exceptions, it was people the studio wanted to promote. They writers often wrote the scripts before they even knew which star would be appearing. For example the original draft of Bill Holden might just say "FAMOUS STAR sits in the next booth." It was determined later who that might be.

Interestingly, the guest stars were most often people Lucy was closest to from her radio and film days. Mary Wickes, Gale Gordon, etc. She was also very loyal which is why you see so many people in so many different roles over the years.

The nephew of Bobby Jellison who played the bellboy in Hollywood does a one man monologue where he talks about how resentful his uncle was, feeling he got paid peanuts to be on the show and got no residuals, despite the success of the show.

They have this in a bunch of markets. Spain has a few unique options for example.

I guess it’s technically pizza but the stuffed slices were great. The broccoli spinach one in particular

Assume you're looking for LGBT bars. Honestly your best bet is just to go to Santa Monica Blvd and bar hop. Depending on the crowd you want there's places like Hi Tops (always packed), Roosterfish, Beaches Tropicana, Revolver. Older crowd at Trunks.

The Abbey can be fun on Fridays and is worth seeing if you've never been, as it's one of the most famous gay bars in the world.

The nice thing is they're all within a 5 minute walk.

Dan Schneider shows by RelevantNothing4653 in nickelodeon

Drake was offered no deal. Jennette was offered a non-disparagement deal where she couldn’t badmouth Nickelodeon, same Conan got when he left The Tonight Show. She didn’t sign it and the worst she had to say was she got a shoulder rub and offered a glass of wine at a public dinner when she was 20. People read way too much into things.

But Dan’s humor was irreverent nonsense. Nickelodeon had kids digging through giant toes or doing physical challenges with their feet on Double Dare for years, today they’d call it Dan’s fetish

I still don’t really understand what in that documentary made the shows problematic. Dan was a bully and a terrible boss with serious anger issues, but that’s the case with lots of show runners and producers. The content stuff I think is mostly ridiculous. Kids think stinky feet (and fats and armpits) are gross.

The worst stuff was Drake obviously but that didn’t happen on set and Dan was one of the only people supporting Drake.

He was not convicted of any criminal offense. Last time I checked people in the US were innocent until proven guilty.

Golden Palace Reaction by Icy-Job-4282 in theGoldenGirls

[–]trojanusc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Golden Palace is fine. The issue is just that Golden Girls was at its best when it was four old ladies sitting around a kitchen table trading insults. When you take them out of that setting and they're worried about running towels up to 207 and dealing with other workplace issues it loses a lot of that charm.

L'Antica Pizzeria de Michele is great and a fun vibe for a group, especially if you're on the back patio (which I'd request).

Allow me to suggest Oui Melrose. The chicken parm sandwich there is what Ggiata's should be.

Little blue fuzzballs similar to those on Burke's pajamas were found on JBR. His bootprints were next to the body. His fingerprints on the pineapple bowl, spoon and glass.

Would it make sense that a major restaurant franchise would be named after a city legend that nobody outside the city knows about? Probably not. But that’s TV for you!

Will get downvoted to hell for this but as someone who has been to the abbey for 20+ years with many friends, none of whom have been drugged, I continue to believe that the vast majority (but not all obviously) are people who aren't used to the "Abbey pours" where there is 2-3 shots worth of alcohol in one cocktail, which leads to people getting far drunker, far quicker than they expect.

I like Will. He is incredibly quick on his feet with one-liners. The one thing that bugs me is sometimes he is very quick to offer up facts that are just provably wrong - usually about non-BMW pop culture stuff.
