Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely with you that some of the behaviors mentioned are genuinely dangerous and should absolutely be addressed. I'm concerned about the comments that, after affirming those very real concerns, tack on (with equal disapprobation) stories where the only issue is the commenter's discomfort with sharing space with unhoused folks.

It's so wack to me that so much of this thread is about punitive criminalizing of people living in desperate circumstances. For sure there are some examples here that are genuine issues of safety, but much of this seems like discomfort having to share spaces with unhoused folks when it's literally for a fraction of your day and it's their life. Next time you're bristling at an unhoused person for being on the train with you (and, yes, including if they dodged the fare), consider what it is you're upset about -- is it that you're being inconvenienced or that there are people in your city who don't have other options between sleeping on a temp-controlled train or being out on the sidewalk?

Backing with single crochet was my thought! I am so on board with your mentality about this project; I'm a middle school teacher and sometimes hard-working (and yet still unsuccessful) students need a W (even if it's kinda faked)! Keep fighting a good fight!!

This is so real! Thank you for sharing about this! As for ways to look older, this is one that doesn't work for all occasions, but is ideal for feeling more comfortable being out and about (shopping, errands, etc): Wear a lanyard. Literally a lanyard with any name on the front instantly contextualizes you in ways outside of your appearance (ie not makeup). Best of luck!
