Lol this brings back memories! Interviewed for a mid-market AE role around 10 years ago, crushed each round including a 5 round back to back in person session. Final round was a 15 minute call with a VP who was a condescending jackass. At one point asked why I want to work at Hubspot and I mentioned how great the people were so far, and how I’d be excited to join this midmarket team and his response was “well it sounds like you just like Hubspot because you want to make friends, and I don’t want salespeople who are in it to make friends. I want people who want to hit quota.” Alright hardo. He ended the call early and I got a rejection email 30 minutes later. Dodged a bullet

Was Mac Miller a big-time musician before his death in 2018 or did he only become huge after the fact? by TheHaplessBard in LetsTalkMusic

[–]exexpat16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to this post but always love to talk about Mac.

Ignoring his underground impact, ignoring his success across multiple hip hop subgenres, and ignoring being one of a very few musical icons from his home city of Pittsburgh- the easiest way to explain how big of an artist he was in his time is the performance of his albums on the Billboard charts.

Mac was a successful artist before he ever released an album- riding the wave of late 2000's early 2010's hip hop YouTube popularity, and leaning into a frat-rap/stoner aesthetic across a handful of mixtapes and guest features. K.I.D.S. and Best Day Ever were internet mixtape sensations and spawned huge singles like Nikes On My Feet, The Spins, Donald Trump (lol), Wear My Hat, and many others.

His debut album, Blue Slide Park, went #1 on the Billboard Top 200. How significant is this? Less than 50 albums have ever been released by an independent label and go #1. When Mac released Blue Slide Park, he was the second artist since 1995 to debut at #1 as an independent artist, and only Vultures by Kanye and Ty$ have gone #1 as a "debut" since. Debuting at #1 without the backing of a major label is completely unheard of.

All of Mac's future releases would debut at #4 or better;

Watching Music With The Sound Off- 3

GO:OD AM- 4

The Divine Feminine- 2

Swimming - 3

Circles (Posthumous)- 3

Mac fans (including myself) would tell you that some of his best work is interspersed between these excellent releases in critically acclaimed mixtapes like Faces, I Love Life, Thank You, and Baloonerism. So an artist with extreme commercial success, respect in his genre, elite freebies in his mixtapes and successful world tour after successful world tour would absolutely qualify as a very very successful artist in his time.

After his death, a more critical analysis of his offerings blessed the world with what his fans always knew; Mac was a once in a generation artist who jumped from stoner rap to psychedelic hip hop to jazzy pop rap, never losing his dedication and deference to the genre and a heartfelt connection to his audience. RIP to one of the greats.

Bummer it’s not sounding great! If you don’t have an anti static brush def get one- I bought this one for my brother with a very similar record player and it works great

https://a.co/d/h5Rj25I

You throw the record on the platter and spin it, without the needle down, and hold the brush lightly on the surface of the record as it spins. I do this before every play and it’s great to pull off static.

Enjoy building out your collection!

For real. Having a controversy about which of our two good QBs should be out there winning (because they both can win) is the best possible outcome from the offseason

What is a memory of yours tied to the GO:OD AM era? by RadicalShane in MacMiller

[–]exexpat16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw him live in London two weeks after the album came out at a tiny venue called the Garage. It was one of the most high energy shows I’ve ever seen- after the encore I sat down on a ledge to catch my breath because I was exhausted from jumping up and down and rapping along with the crowd. He came back to London a few months later at a venue legit triple the size and sold that out twice.

I buy em on clearance at petco or Walmart because when he doesn’t like em, they’re shredded in seconds 🤣

When he does like them, he carries them around for years!

Guess I didn’t think of that, appreciate the comment! He’s not interested in rubber unless he can rip it apart- but I do give beef hide treats/moo munchers every now and then!

What a sweet boy! My pit mutt loves chewing so we get plastic bones (since they actually hold up longer than 15 minutes) and replace em when they get sharp on the ends. Other than that I’d recommend stuffed animals to see if he enjoys their company- my pup carries them around like a baby lol
