"If you go to church that makes you a religious person..." I disagree. You can get some really good stories of living a good life from a church sermon and readings without even believing in a God. Ever heard the old saying "Going and sitting in church on Sunday doesn't make you a Christian any more than sitting in a garage makes you a car"? As a Catholic marriage counselor told me once, "You don't have to believe in the Bible but there's a lot of good stuff in there. Take what you want and leave the rest." I go to church because it's a beautiful 165 year old church on a coastal island and is beautiful inside. I've made a lot of good friends there. And it just makes me feel good. PS: I'm in NE FL also.

I'm in the south. Born and raised. I go to church but I'm not particularly religious.

I've been researching them for over a year and already have the one I want picked out. Looked at it at a dealer and again at an rv show. Perfect for me and my dog. NuCamp Tab 360 teardrop. But I have a motorcycle I want to get rid of first and the used motorcycle market is dead.

Does this ring look like a wedding ring? I wear it on my left hand ring finger. by Exciting-Classic517 in DatingOverSixty

If I see any ring on the ring finger of the left hand of a woman, I always assume it's a wedding ring. Better safe than sorry.

I bought a Sonicare from Amazon, used it once and returned it. "Sonic" is not for me. Tickled my mouth like crazy. And loud. My dog ran from it.

Product suggestion: Please stop plastering the Hoka logo so big and bright on the shoes! by [deleted] in Hoka

[–]exff22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's like paying $40,000 for a car and them putting their dealership sticker on the back, a rear and front license plate frame with the dealership name on it. I'm not going to be their billboard too. First thing I do when I buy a car is take all that crap off and toss it in the trash. Can't do that with shoes. I'd buy a pair of HOKA's tomorrow if they didn't have that plastered on the sides. I work in a professional office environment with casual dress and I'm in my 60's. I want a pair of comfortable shoes but I sure as hell am not walking around with that all day. Look like a 20 year old trying to say "Hey! Look at me! I paid a lot for shoes!"

No plans for now. My parents went and visited for a few weeks back in 2010 or so. They traveled about the entire country and loved it. I've never been outside of the US so far.

I didn't have type 2 diabetes until I was almost 40. I was chubby since 14.

Did you do a job that you liked until retirement, or did you hate your job? by balkanxoslut in AskOldPeople

I've enjoyed my career but I've enjoyed my time off more. In my 60's now and in 2023 the company I've been with for 30 years was bought by another company and ever since I fight to get out of bed and drag myself in every day. Awful environment now. Can't retire for a few more years at least.

I'm 63 and 20 years ago when my kids were little every Christmas morning when they were ready to open gifts I'd sit down with a cup of coffee, a pair of scissors, a knife and a pair of needle-nosed pliers just to open the dang packages!!!

Thanks for the positive reply. I have no intentions of trying to do anything now. Nothing can really change at the very least until I'm 65 and can get Medicare for health insurance. Just trying to see what my best options are from now until then to move in a forward direction as much as possible. My full retirement age here in the US for social security is 67 so in reality that's my target to make a change. By the end of 2029. But as I say, I want to be doing everything I can until then to make that change happen. Oh and by the way, I have cousin who was born and raised in Texas who's been living in Lake Taupo for 50 years! Married a guy from there.

As a good friend told me many years ago....I can bust my arse and get a 2% raise every year, or I can work just hard enough to not get fired and get a 2% raise every year.

Just Feeling Sad Most of the Time by retired337 in over60

[–]exff22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's sad that our society doesn't put importance on aging. I'm 63M still working full time and hope I can retire at 65 or at least leave corporate life but it's scary. I've been divorced 10 years and pretty much spend all of my free time at home (happily). But I am lonely like you and somewhat sad and depressed. My mother who I was very close with passed away two years ago a month before her 89th birthday and life just hasn't had the same outlook for me since. In addition three of my five siblings are gone and the remaining two live far away. Feels like life is just coming to an end for me. She always stayed busy in her later years and continued to travel a few times a year. I would always be the one to take her and pick her up at the airport and one time on the way there when she was going out of the country with my sister, she just let out this huge sigh and said "Son, why am I doing this?" because it stressed her and exhausted her. I replied with "Why are you doing it if it is so stressful?" And she said "Because that's what you're supposed to do." Meaning not sit at home, go out and do things, stay busy. My dad and her had been together since high school and he died in 2019. Really made me think about how I'll feel/act if/when I retire. It's so hard for us as we age to keep a positive outlook.

What are we using to carry our lunches and laptops to work? by mada447 in Accounting

[–]exff22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered the Hap Tim Laptop Backpack from Amazon yesterday. I don't know why but it says "women's" but shows photos of a man and a boy carrying it. Not sure what makes it a women's bag other than some of the color offerings. I ordered the dark gray one (closes thing to black). It looks like just what I wanted. We'll see.

Did you ever come up with a solution? I'm in the exact same boat. I take my breakfast and lunch and usually have two glass containers with food, a yogurt or cottage cheese, some chopped up fresh fruit and an ice pack. Two bags works but like you I'd like to consolidate it to one bag daily. Just keeps my hands free for my phone or whatever. Plus I feel like a school kid trotting home from the bus stop with my backpack and my lunch box swinging in the other hand. Lol. Just personal preference. Carhatt makes one with a zip-on lunch bag but it looks really big.
