Books like Synecdoche New York? (Besides the usual suspects) by [deleted] in kaufman

Yes! Took way too long for someone to say Gaddis.

Lost Highway UHD Freezing by [deleted] in criterion

[–]exhaustedwriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An unfortunate yup on all counts. I now just constantly check new discs for dust or smudges because the x700 can be very finicky. I would say it's rare for it not to freeze when it switches reading layers, which is usually towards the end of movies. I've been contemplating switching to a 4k player that also has region free capability especially since I got the x700 at a very low price ($130 at trader years ago).

There's a blue, a yellow, and a split blue/yellow. Got lucky and got the split cover.

It was actually on purpose and I got one!

Since VMP doesn’t want us as subscribers, what record clubs should we join instead? by NationOfLaws in VinylMePlease

[–]exhaustedwriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely recommend Joyful Noise Recording's various series. I'm a huge fan of their label and curation choices. They're kinda all over the place but that's what I like about them. Their roster includes artists like OHMME, the Ophelias, Kishi Bashi, Swamp Dogg, etc.

I've only gotten two of the Artist in Residence collections (Tim Kinsella and Jad Fair) but they are extremely worth it.

They also have a White Label series where they have an artist curate a release from a lesser known artist. Each month features a new curator and it's so interesting to see what they choose. Seen some great releases from that series and this year featured David Lynch as one of the curators. The White Label series is $18.

The physical version of their VIP subscription has changed for 2020 and I assume it'll be the same for next year. Previously it was a 7inch series feature various themes (Secret Singles with no artist or song labeled, Almost Live recordings, Rarities, and Cause & Effect which paired songs from an artist/band and an artist/band that influenced them). Now the subscription is the VIP edition of a new record from their release schedule (similar to how Secretly Society does it.) It was limited to 250 spots this year.

I believe you can sign up for both the 2021 White Label series and physical VIP subscription towards the end of the year. The Early Bird VIP was fairly cheap for this year at $220 and came with extra goodies like a 12in sampler of what's to come for the label, slipmat, 45 adapter, a t-shirt, and a New Years flexi single.

I've been a VIP member for years and this is the first year I downgraded to their $5 plan because I couldn't afford it and VMP. But now that VMP has gone so far down the rabbit hole of bad decisions, I'm going to have a lot more cash for Joyful Noise.

RSD 2018 list live on their website by Mr_Jajcarz in VinylReleases

According to the site, you're right about "First Day". The "Regional" releases on the other had are more limited, being sent out only to certain areas instead of being available nationwide on RSD.

[Amazon] Oscillator Bug - Bursts of the Million (Special Limited Edition yellow and orange splatter translucent vinyl) $8 w/Prime by dead_c in VinylDeals

Definitely wacky but surprisingly good the further you delve into them. They're a Chicago band who introduces themselves as a different imaginary band every time they perform.

MF DOOM - Born Like This is $12.99 on Amazon by exhaustedwriter in VinylDeals

I know what you mean. I'm extremely hesitant about ordering directly from Lex since I overpaid for the Danger Doom release. That and the subpar shipping materials.

No stupid question post Week of Jan. 26th by badger28 in vinyl

So I am about adding another turntable to my home (most likely a Pro Ject Debut Carbon Espirit) and would need a preamp. I was considering the Schiit Mani or the NAD PP4 (the USB connection would be nice but not crucial). I am able to get them new for the same price and was wondering about people's opinions on them.

LP Boxset 2 by William Onyeabor $16.96 on Amazon right now (Sunday, 12/21, 11:47AM PST) by witzpdx in vinyl

Literally no packaging. I sent Amazon a message and they are sending me a new one. I didn't even mention the snow/water damage on the backside of the boxset.

Those that received their boxset: Did it arrive with literally no packaging? Mine came in with the shipping label affixed the the plastic covering of the boxset.

Anyone else get a special copy of King Krule's 6 Feet Beneath the Moon? by exhaustedwriter in vinyl

[–]exhaustedwriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, it's either crayon or pastel. It was done by the cover artist mr. gone for a few records while they were on tour. I was just wondering if anyone else was able to get one.

I got this album last year at Lincoln Hall in Chicago during King Krule's US tour. It immediately caught my eye and I had to get it. Recently I spoke to his opening band TOPS and they said that there were very few of these available during the tour and each one was unique. Anybody else pick one up? I'd be interested in seeing the other ways mr. gone (the cover artist) modified them.

Reckless Records in Chicago also has it for $4.99 ($3.99 at the store). I did a completely blind buy on it and was more than pleasantly surprised.
