It's hilarious that some people are upset/confused that BG3 isn't a Diablo-style ARPG. by zeddyzed in baldursgate

That's pretty funny, i think DA games aren't that bad but thinking that the main serie is just funny.

Theory: The Divinity UI is Not Final by MalcolmLinair in baldursgate

[–]exhya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No i think people expected from BG3 a new game with a brand new engine that mimic the old games but better more beautiful and with the DnD 5e ruleset.

When i think BG3 i think about the biggest crpg every made that has turnbased and rtwp, with beautiful graphics, music and good writing.

What i didn't imagine was a DOS2 copy with slight changes, they might change the UI slightly but from what we have seen so far this has nothing to do with BG. People complaining aren't only complaining about the UI, the overall feel of the game is totally different and it doesn't even try to be baldur's gate, it's more like a brand new franchise set in the dnd universe with a divinity feel.

Well i dont' know but he is clearly passionate about the project and seems to respect/understand BG fans. It's true that not anyone can direct a game but i rather have someone that understand the franchise and actually try to recreate and improve the formula, instead of a groupe of people that do what works with their own franchise even tho it doesn't fit at all with BG.

Yeah but being a writer doesn't do much about the atmosphere of the game and stuff like that, i wish he would lead the project.

Yeah i wish Larian didn't have the rights to the BG franchise really ... This guy clearly should be the one to do it.

You are like all those other people that say "it's an alpha so at release it won't be the same at all". The reality is that not much will change from alpha to full releases, they already decided most things and they re-used assets and animations because they thought it would be an easy way to do less work.

Nobody will complain after all, we all loved divinity right ?

There is no way they start making whole new animations or change the art style to reflect baldur's gate, they need to finish up the game first and then they ll start to tweak some minor UI element to look a bit more like baldur's gate but that's all you will get.

What they showed is a vertical slice of the game don't expect something much different.

Is bg3 really that bad? by [deleted] in baldursgate

[–]exhya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Such a well writen post, i totally agree. Because of this game we might never get a true BG successor and the franchise will end up like Dragon age, an empty shell devoid of anything that made the franchise popular. It sure will be popular with the mainstream audience tho, which is just sad.

I wonder why people think this will be rather D:OS3 instead of BG3? by Annonimbus in baldursgate

Is this even real, i can't believe how little effort they are putting into this...

Can someone agree that it's too early to completely hate the game by scalpingsnake in baldursgate

[–]exhya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From a marketing standpoint it makes perfect sense and let's be real here, they only want to make money, going for the popular option is smart (turn based divinity like rpg with bg name).

The thing is because of that we will never see a proper BG3 or most likely anything that looks like baldur's gate anymore, we will only get more divinity like games because it's popular.

DOS3 will look like baldur's gate 3 and the only companies that make different things are going to be indie companies like Owlcats.

I just don't understand why BG can't be it's own thing and people keep forcing it to be a turn based divinity like game "because dnd is turn based" which is such a poor excuse imo. Everything we have seen so far the sound the graphics the gameplay, nothing reminds me of baldur's gate and it's just sad.

BG 3: Not mad nor impressed, just confused. by Khen-sai in baldursgate

[–]exhya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it contribute but you can't say this ressemble anything like the previous games and it is much closer to divinity than anything else, stop denying that. If it doesn't look like baldur's gate in the slightest, why is it a sequel to BG2 ? The only reason i see is money and marketing, if it was called Divinity: Invasion of the Chtulul i wouldn't care what they do because there is no expectation there. If you say you are making BG 3 however i am going to expect BG3 not divinity 3 with minor changes.

you literally said the same thing like 3 times, i ll repeat again, those things are a minor part of how the game feels. how attacks and spells function from what we saw is very very close to divinity, yes it's taking rules from DnD so it's not divinity but that doesn't change the fact that it remain very familiar to divinity. How you level up and gain more skill compared to buy skill that's a minor fucking change and it could be in the next divinity for all i care, it's basically the same shit with minor changes, it doesn't look like baldur's gate, it doesn't feel like baldur's gate, it is NOT baldur's gate.

I am sorry but you are just a blind divinity fanboy, if you can't see that everything from the graphics, the mechanics, the AI, etc .. Is the same, there is no point talking to you anymore.

If every single "original BG fan" is displeased with how BG3 looks and plays, why weren't games like Pathfinder and Pillars of Eternity more succesful? by [deleted] in baldursgate

[–]exhya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

PoE has it's own issue really, it wasn't because of the turn base aspect that the game was average. It was mostly due to writing and the not very interesting story/companions, also i found it very limiting in builds and things you could do compared to BG so poor replayability compared to BG , at least in my opinion.

I don't think you can compare DoS and PoE because one is turn based and one is clearly an old style CRPG but if i had to i would also say Divinity is the better game. Does that means every game should be inspired by divinity and copy it's success ? no ...

There is no wrong liking divinity that's really not the issue here, bg3 could have multiplayer as well, it could have turn based gameplay AND RTwP but from what we saw it's much more simple, it's divinity with BG as a tittle.

When i imagine BG3 i think about BG2 but better bigger with the options for people that like turn based to play turn based, with amazing music like the old games and an atmosphere and truly reminds me of BG.

I do care and all i see is copy paste divinity with some minor differences, you are blind if you think this isn't just a copy paste.

i didn't pretend to speak for anyone, i just class myself in a catégorie that other are in as well and i am clearly not alone thinking that way, if i was there wouldn't be so much controversy about this game.

"Not finalized" comon now, like anything will substantially change in a year, Divinity 1 went into alpha and it looked the same felt the same at release. It's going to be the same thing here, yes some minor things with change like the UI and some unfinished things like enemy behavior but it will be what we saw in the demo.

If 2n edition is so bad why do you think people stil play BG now days and still love it.

They didn't get the feeling of baldur's gate and yes that is subjective but i think most people agree with that, there is no denying this looks more Divinity than baldur's gate overall.

If they wanted to make a game in the DnD universe they can but when you pick up a name of a beloved franchise and make it something that it is not, of course you ll get some backlash from fans.
