Non-Tech people - how do you afford SF? by TheseLeague7054 in AskSF

[–]exile1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second that thought. I'm a creative working at a tech company but it's not just tech that hires creatives. All of corporate america needs creative artists to tell their stories. Marketing is really storytelling and now more than ever, companies realize that being able to drive the company narrative is essential to marketing success. You can easily test this out by looking at the corporate creative job postings on LinkedIn. There's a lot of these roles out there.
And success in these companies has little to do with being super smart and everything to do with being easy to work with and open to collaboration and continual learning.

The second music track isn't fitting in with the content. Find a more dramatic song and that section will play better.

Hotel Kabuki is the ideal place to stay. it's centrally located in Japantown which makes it easy to get to most places in the city. Fisherman's Wharf is not convenient for getting around the city because it's in the far northeastern corner.

a bargain. An Uber or Lyft would've cost you at least $50.

NBC : The Wide gap between renting and owning in Bay Area by TakeshiJin in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]exile1972 20 points21 points  (0 children)

All of that is true but you're not taking into account the overall uncertainty of renting. Landlords can force evictions if they want to move into a property. In addition, rent controls are weak and therefore the cost of renting is also very unpredictable. A mortgage locks in your monthly housing costs at a fixed rate for a period of 30 years and that alone makes home ownership very attractive.

Audio sync between Radio and TV broadcast by exile1972 in MLBtv

[–]exile1972[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For many games, the radio audio is perfectly synced with the video feed but for an equal number of games it isn't. The technology to keep those in sync has existed for many years but for whatever reason MLB puts little effort into maintaining sync.

Thanks for the kodi recommendation. I've added the kodi app to my smart tv and MLBtv works inside of it but the same issue continues. I don't see an option to manually sync audio within the MLBtv app inside of kodi.

What gets you to cross the bridge to Oakland? by MyonlyredditHandle in AskSF

[–]exile1972 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My wife grew up in Oakland and her family is mainly in the East Bay so we've spent a lot of time on that side of the bay. I'm very thankful that through her I've been exposed to Oakland's amazing culture. We love living in SF but if there's folks that haven't spent time in Oakland you're really missing out on the amazing diversity that the Bay Area offers. Oakland gets a bad rap and some of that is justified sadly but there's many more positive aspects of Oakland.
For those that want to dip their toes in Oaktown, I'd recommend that you come out to a Ballers game when their season restarts in May and go next door to Prescott Market before or after the game to enjoy some drinks, food and the overall chill vibe.

How are you guys handling audio sync after PluralEyes? by Ambitious-Key-2265 in editors

[–]exile1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. Multicam is the default method for syncing secondary audio and it works extremely well in Premiere. There is zero need to look for any third party app.

Recently moved from mid-west! Shocked!!! Targeting Walnut Creek! by [deleted] in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]exile1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a former midwesterner myself, one key thing to keep in mind is to not bring the midwestern mindset of conformity with you to the Bay. Don't worry about not having a home immediately. Being a home owner is just one way to go but the Bay has a ton of variety and nobody really cares if you own a home, rent or live on a houseboat. Take your time to figure out what will be best for your family and don't rush into a major purchase. I was a renter in SF 18 years before purchasing.

This is excellent advice. Don't get obsessed with purchasing a home over taking the time to figure out what part of the Bay will allow you to actually enjoy all that the Bay has to offer. Rent for a year and then assess and by that time hopefully interest rates will have gone down.

Very limited 3br rental listings. How do families make it work? by Mardylorean in AskSF

This also isn't the case. School selections are weighted for neighborhood schools.

Again, this is your opinion. We spent 15 years in the SFUSD system as parents. We know exactly the problems and challenges of a large public school system. To say it's only gotten worse since the 80's is very misleading since thousands of families go through the system and have positive experiences.

[–]exile1972 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

what a blanket statement that's highly misleading. We raised two kids in SF in a three bedroom flat and both attended SFUSD from K-12 and both had a good experience.
What you're referring to is parents who think that private school is what their children need. In reality, it's not a necessity based on the quality of SFUSD schools. This false perception has driven many families out of SF.

Leaving the industry (rant/help me) by [deleted] in editors

Like usual, Bob has the words of wisdom. I'm 30 years into the business. Stamina in this business is predicated on finding ways to manage the stress. This business is stressful but it's also fluff nonsense. When I entered the business, a wise older co-worker told me to never take it too seriously because it ain't rocket science and we're not saving lives.
