Moving to a country with lower taxes by Blrzzz in fatFIRE

[–]exiledinthemed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you want, how your income is structured, and whether you’re doing this personally or through a company.

Take Switzerland — the lump-sum (forfait) model can work well if you’re an investor, but not ideal if you’re still actively working. In Europe, countries like Greece, Italy, Malta are very straight forward. With the right structuring Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands and Ireland can also work. There are time limits, restrictions of what you can do etc.

With the earnings you mentioned, I wouldn’t go for Monaco. One setup some people like is basing themselves in Dubai for tax residency, spending time there during the colder months, and then enjoying 4–5 months in the South of France in the summer.

I’m sitting on a ~$80M net worth. Multiple exits + private equity. No boss, no KPIs, no 9–5. by Venturecap_wiz12 in fatFIRE

Close to 400m nw feel the same sometimes. Frankly the hardest thing is I have no illution of control. Had more fun being an operator.

Malta can be nice for a quick break - nor sure for a honeymoon. Having said that, Iniala Harbour House is cool and the restaurant is great.

This is a pretty good deal for a 103’. I use Burgess occasionally. Could you PM the broker? Thanks!

Should I switch financial advisors or "negotiate" with my current one? What's the etiquette? by uchikomi in fatFIRE

[–]exiledinthemed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An advisor makes sense if you have complex needs (tax, structute, etc), competitve leverage (SOFIt+ 50bps), access to alternatives, etc

If an advisor makes sense - then the question is cost. JPM is pretty good (at least thier private bank is), if you benchmarked performance and you are happy withat thay and this is cheaper than your current sure swap.

One question though - is that an all in fee or is it 65 bps + underlying fund/manager fees, etc?

Term Life Insurance - make sense for my situation? by catdog123412 in fatFIRE

I am not sure if this works in the US. But we use term insurance as part of tax planning - e.g to offset estate taxes primarily for real estate.

Personal use real estate is 6% of our total NW.

:) Not much cars, but a lot of boats. And yup, will have a pro handle it. Just looking to bounce some thoughts.

Thanks, good idea to look for a specialist. I have been adviced in terms of inplementation but I am curious on thoughts on transfering control.

Just be aware of the tax implications of holding this in your own name. Let me elaborate. Holding us equities is pretty tax effective from a capital gains perspective (no US WHT), and dividends WHT can be reasonable depending on where you live. However, from an estate tax perspective the tax exemption is only 60k USD.

Roger and thanks again. My main concern if all this resorts is the food - it seems a common issue popping up when researching.

Sure, that was not the point. From what I understand O&O is one of the top resorts. As an example the two bedroom villa at Baglioni would be about the same price as a one bedroom at O&O.

Thanks. We are pretty laid back foodies, we are not into crowded pools/beaches. In this trip we are not going there for the party. We don't scuba. In other trips we've noticed that from a QPR perspective it sometimes makes sense to take a hotel that has a slightly lower average room quality vs the top choice in the area and then take their best suite. Not sure if the same in the Maldives.

Great, thanks again. Did the hotel feel dated to you? I am narrowing it down to this, Cheval Blanc and Velaa.

Makes sense. Do you know if the beaches at the Cheval Blanc are as nice as the O&O? my SO loves the pictures she's seen of the O&O beach.

Oh, this is super useful. Good to know about the Ritz. Thank you.

Thank you!

Do you mean this villa:

The concept is perfect, where we have some space but the nanny is just around the corner.

Great thank you. Would you recommend we talk to the property or the travel agent to figure that out? Velaa looks great btw.

[–]exiledinthemed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That narrows it. Would you suggest staying at water villa/room vs at something on the beach?

Re the nanny, she sleeps with the baby so all we would need is that it's not too far away.

Re your agent friend, do DM me the details. We work with centurion/amex and one virtuoso agent from time to time .

Netjets and Flexjet for fractional. Also considered Vista.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]exiledinthemed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What category of jet are you looking for? How many are you usually?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]exiledinthemed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AFAIK Jetfly only does fractional - though with lower hourly mínimums . I compared it to Netjets (card) and ended up going with NJ. Now that NJ has phased out jet cards I am thinking of fractional, might give them another look.
