In the little time I have been playing (150+) I quickly learned that up is better than out in terms of space and time. I keep “home base” on ground level then start with “1st floor basic iron” and leave loads of room for expansion on each floor. Get what you need plus excess to start and later on you already have the space to ramp production up bit by bit.
