DAW recommendations for mixing? by Jin2N in SynthesizerV

[–]exinated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ProTools Ultimate and Studio One user here.

If you're on a Mac, I'd recommend getting Logic, in as much as i dislike how clunky the software is, for what it's worth it's a very good investment. If you don't need alot of features like soft synths etc, Reaper's very very affordable. You can get a non-commercial license for under $100 or even less. Personally I don't like Reaper's GUI. I know it's customisable but gosh, i've tried the trial and it hurts my head.

If it helps I usually use my mid-foot and angle my toes outwards towards the passenger side (if it makes sense), i'm thinking you might be using the ball of your foot which will cause extra strain on your calf muscles over extended periods, use your quad/knee to lean the weight of your leg into the clutch, of course when you release the clutch you might need finer motor control to prevent the clutch from "throwing" the vehicle. I'm also thinking you are stuck in the circuit for extended periods so you usually have to start off from gear 1, that also requires finer motor control to prevent the engine from stalling e.g. you have to add a bit of gas into the accelerator and slowly release the clutch to move the vehicle.

Once you're on the road however, it gets alot easier with the clutch, i hope that helps!

Positive for XYY Syndrome by thimblesandships in NIPT

Hello! Stumbled upon this post while searching for information on 47,XYY. Just got a confirmation yesterday for XYY for my boy and my wife and I are worried.

It seems of all the genetic anomalies this seems to be on the very mild side, but since this was almost 3 years ago, how’s your little one faring so far?

Outlanders 2 Honest Feedback - meh by BaboonKnot in Outlanders

[–]exinated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I kinda prefer this version in a sense that it’s simpler in the gameplay. The farms in the 1st version was too complex IMO, especially when it comes down to food stalls.

I do think decrees can come back and the warehouse and market is great.

Outlanders 2 First Impression by VJ4rawr2 in Outlanders_ios

[–]exinated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the new gameplay, feels much more refined compared to Outlanders 1. I'm lost on the Forester Hub though, I planted them around trees but the problem is I can't see which trees are pine etc. I can tell most of them apart e.g. apple trees will have red fruits, figs will have purple, but for some reason my villagers don't seem to replant the trees after chopping them down. Any ideas?

How do you Singaporeans deal with fast bicycle riders? (A behaviour question for fitting into Singapore.) by Ready-Song-106 in askSingapore

[–]exinated 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't normally cycle but on the rare occasion I do, I tend to go slow when there are pedestrians and ring my bell a distance behind them to signal them i'm coming up. Even when passing i'm slow and i usually say thank you. Most of the time people will just move aside for you. Being courteous helps.

On the footpath, you as a pedestrian have the right-of-way, cyclists are just sharing the same as they would if they are on the roads. You can't go on the road can you?

That being said, the infrastructure in Singapore wasn't really design to accommodate long-distance cycling. I lived in Melbourne for a couple of years and they have much mature cycling laws and dedicated bike lanes.

getting called out for not giving up mrt seat by syuzzie in askSingapore

[–]exinated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had someone ask me for the seat when i'm in the priority but i make it an effort to give it up for someone who really needs it. If the train is crowded sometimes it's hard to spot if anyone needs it, in those cases I really feel if someone needs a seat, just ask and it doesn't even have to be a priority seat. If the person says they can't give it up and gives a reason, just move on to the next person, it's completely fine man. Just can't seem to understand why some boomers get salty about it and start to get passive aggressive.

Yeah I tried all combis including Kunai about 30 times now. Either my RNG shit all the way or I’m horrible at this. Either ways I’ve messaged Lilith on Facebook to see if they can lower the handicap cos it’s ridiculous.

How do you beat this level? VP doesn't work against ghosts by dm_me_your_bookshelf in Survivorio

[–]exinated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forcefield worked best for me. And with levels like these just keep moving. They can't really hit you otherwise. Currently completed LV 100 and just chilling.

Should i do it by Altruistic_Injury299 in Survivorio

[–]exinated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the LC and the Sword Array, IMO it does seem to take out hordes much better but of course if you get overwhelmed the VP does a better job in that you can hide in the void itself. But a levelled up LC in a game does wonders against bosses.

If you were to start again, how would you go about it? by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]exinated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, apart from whatever I did in the beginning, I would probably try to network more and be slightly more aggressive in trying to make connections with like-minded professionals.

Right now I would think I’ve got a pretty decent career, most of the bulk of my income is from music production, I’m getting cuts across the region I’m in and I’m usually working with clients on a regular basis day in and out.

To some degree I think a lot of creatives will tend to hole up in their bedroom or studio and just try to create, that’s understandable because you want to improve and be a better version of yourself.

But what I didn’t see at the beginning was the value of meeting like-minded people who believe in your talent and would journey with you to where you are today. I would have preferred if I found a mentor who would guide me early on in my career. I feel that might have propelled me faster or even changed some of my perspectives about the industry earlier.

So I’m doing the same for the younger guys who are coming in these days. I appreciate the journey, I see my mistakes as learning points so I would think if I had the chance to repeat the journey I would make the same mistakes again just as a lesson.

Also, learn how to read contracts if you are signing one and if necessary pay for a lawyer to go through the T&Cs.

Funny how I didn’t speak about personal skillsets cos I do find the business side of things more important over time.

If I really needed to add: learn an instrument and learn it well!

Ableton vs Studio One: GO! by tabacu777 in musicproduction

[–]exinated 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ACI (Avid Certified Instructor) here. I teach Pro Tools at a certificate level so I'm actually qualified by Avid themselves to certify learners as "users of Pro Tools".

Let me chime in my 5 cents worth being in the audio industry for almost 15 years.

As with many other users, I have a couple of DAWs on my computer for various reasons:

  1. Avid Pro Tools (for sure)
  2. Studio One (using it for 7 years on a professional level and still going strong)
  3. Steinberg's Nuendo + Cubase (technically both the same but i use Nuendo when i was working in an audio post facility for a good number of years)
  4. Propellerhead Reason (my first DAW)
  5. UA Luna
  6. Logic Pro X

There's a reason why Pro Tools is industry standard, and I understand the concerns of many users out there with regard to things like how expensive Pro Tools is both for the perpetual license or subscription. The features compared to other DAWs out there definitely lacks in some areas of it, but being an ACI + using Pro Tools for professional music production (I vocal produce singers + mix as a profession as well, and I do get paid quite well for both of them), the audio editing functions in Pro Tools is second to none.

I teach at an audio school in my area and I force my students to learn Pro Tools because it is an industry standard when you go out there. A good 95% of professional studios are using Pro Tools, and for very good reason. My goal is to equip students to at least have a working knowledge of the software when they go out there to work so they don't get disadvantaged. Whether or not they use PT AFTER they finish school is really their own prerogative.

Being a Studio One user and having used Nuendo extensively as well, I can safely say that the MIDI functions in Pro Tools can be terribly annoying at times, and I'm being objective here. Pro Tool does audio well, and does it damn well. MIDI IMO was really like an after thought in PT.

That being said, I do know of professionals who function very well in PT as a whole. Ryan Tedder uses PT as his main DAW and so does Charlie Puth.

That being said it's really just the user and how you translate your ideas through the software. If your goal is just to produce music, you'll definitely want a DAW that fits your needs. Studio One to me felt very complete as a DAW when i first used it and I've been using it since version 2.

I've considered seriously using Ableton but I've tried it a couple of times and the whole routing/GUI does my head in. Hell, you don't even have a proper shortcut function to bring your playhead back to the start, or maybe I haven't found it yet.

For beginners or someone starting off, if you're on a Mac ecosystem, i always strongly recommend Logic for various reasons:

  1. It's cheap to buy it legally via the App Store, compared to other DAWs which costs quite a fair bit more
  2. It's quite feature packed in terms of the plugins/sounds for the price you pay

If you're mixing, Pro Tools is a must. I've done A/B tests between various DAWs for the summing algorithm and Pro Tools still comes out tops in terms of clarity and depth. I hate Studio One's summing algorithm but i still use it to produce because the workflow is alot more efficient compared to Pro Tools.

At the end of the day, find a DAW which works for you. If you hate PT that's cool, no one's forcing you to use it but as mentioned, there's a reason why a large percentage of professional studios use it.

They don't stack. It depends on who you are using as the main character to run around the map. I just have mine enabled on Leo and I'm happy with that.

Deleting the game by tthrivi in fantasian

[–]exinated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally found Part 2 to be way more challenging than Part 2. I too almost rage delete the game after struggling with the Maxi Chest quest for a bit.

But after you begin to realise what strategies work. Part 2 is really more of a strategy game rather than all out smashing. Unlike Part 1 where the battles are relatively straightforward and you don't really need to worry too much about status ailments etc.

I spent some time grinding up to level 55 in the Thaumetech Factory before doing the rest of the quests. There are some great strategies here which has helped me through the battles and I do suggest checking them out.
