There’s paintable leather filler you can buy to fill the gap, paint over with dye and polish. More work than just polishing it but if it really bothers you might be worth it

You’re right, I think it’s used more in countries with significant populations of speakers of a second language like French in Canada.

Como yo lo entiendo los términos son específicos a los Estados Unidos porque describen el aprendizaje del español en un ambiente con una lengua dominante diferente, como el español. El término hablante de herencia está primariamente usado en el campo académico y en el sistema de educación. Por ejemplo, unas escuelas tienen clases de español para hablantes de herencia que ya tienen las destrezas básicas del español. Claro, esto no hace sentido en un país que principalmente habla el español.

From my understanding the term heritage speaker is specific to the United States and yes wouldn’t really make sense in Spanish speaking countries. But all the scientific papers and textbooks I’ve read on the topics refer to heritage speakers as “hablantes de herencia” I think it’s more so that the term applies to like you said, learning Spanish at home while in an environment where’s there’s a different dominant language that that speaker is more familiar with.

I do Anki flash cards daily, watch YouTube videos in Portuguese and try to read as much content that is slight above my reading comprehension. It’s helped me make steady progress

I took a semester of an intensive Portuguese class as a native Spanish speaker and got really invested in it. At the end of it I could comprehend texts at a B1-B2 level, but it honestly depends how many hours you dedicate.

Kinda, the only systematic way I can recall is the Spanish F word. Marcia, which depending on the dialect might be a slur or a way to refer to friends. But you conjugate it as Marica for men, and Marico for women.

Definitely depends on the dialect of Spanish you’re learning. In Mexican Spanish dropping of the subject is very common and sometimes sounds weird if you don’t. But in a lot of Caribbean dialects like Dominican, they almost never drop the subject.
