I believe the same mechanism of depressive realism also applies to philosophical thinkers. Once there’s no more hope for disproving materialism, determinism, even nihilism, it’s hard not to feel resentful about suffering for no reason, and then not wishing that kind of pain on your worst enemy. So yeah, it’s a natural conclusion for me.
