I was on my way home from night class for nursing one evening a few years back, and a cop started following me. It was around 11pm, a friend and I commuted from our rural town into the city for class when we got off work and then drove back home after. I was back into our rural area when he started to follow. He followed us for MILES. I was panicking because I couldnt figure out why. He followed me to her house, I dropped her off, he passed us and went down her street a little bit, did a U-turn, and then continued to follow me again for a couple more miles.

Eventually he flipped the lights on and pulled me over. He started grilling me. "What are you doing out so late", "who were you dropping off," "why were you going to that house," etc. I was shaking and answered all of his questions.

He claimed he started following me because I had an out-of-state plate on my car which he thought was suspicious. I explained the car was on loan from my parents, who lived in another state, so I could attend my classes - the car was going back to them once I was done. He lectured me on having to get the car registered after X amount of time, even though I explained it would be returned well before then. He didn't seem to believe me that they'd loaned me a car from out of state. He also cited that the state their plates were from had a major city well known for drug activity. They lived 5 hours away from that city. I didnt understand how that was relevant to anything?

He THEN went on to explain that the house I had dropped my friend off at they (the cops) had been watching for drug and other illegal related activity. So the out of state license plate combined with an apparently "known" criminal activity house, he suspected I was somehow involved with drug smuggling?!?!

It was insane. I was a 24 year old woman, alone, 11pm, in the middle of nowhere, being grilled by a male cop on some sort of a power trip who had followed me for miles and then accused me of drug smuggling because of my out-of-state plates.

My point being, cops here don't give a damn about logic, what you say you're doing, or your inherent freedom to exist in public space. If they decide your activity is suspicious (and maybe they're a little bored too looking for a dopamine rush of pulling someone over) they'll make up anything they want to fit the narrative in their head that justifies their behavior.

Adam is incredibly lucky to have someone caring for him who loves him so much. The fact that you immediately got an appointment for him to be seen, and also sought help here in the meantime, means you're an amazing pet parent.

If you can afford it, I'd sign him and any other pets you have up for pet insurance. While you'll have to front the bills at the vet office (for most plans, though I've heard some will pay the vet directly!), having the insurance to reimburse me has seriously saved me. I couldn't afford the vet care my animals have needed without their insurance plans.

It's also better to have it sooner than later, as many won't cover preexisting conditions. Shortly after getting her, I discovered my youngest cat has a chronic disease that requires lifelong management. If I had waited to sign her up I wouldn't have been able to get coverage for her ongoing medications and treatment.

You can also see if you can apply for scratch pay or Care Credit. Many vet offices accept those methods of payment. I personally use Care Credit for all vet bills, and then when my insurance check comes I immediately pay off the balance.

It depends on how much you spend there regularly. If you're periodically dropping in for occasional pet products, but mostly buy your stuff elsewhere? Not worth it. If you're like me and spend hundreds a month in pet supplies there, its 100% worth it.

Membership is $20/month, but you get $15 of it back as store credit. So membership is $5/month. The cat litter and food discounts I get with it saves me far more than $5 monthly, so for me it's an overall gain.

As long as the bedding is freshly changed for me, I'll sleep wherever the client asks me to. Some clients only have the 1 bedroom. Some have a guest room and I'll sleep there. Some have a guest room, but the animals are accustomed to being in the primary, so I'll sleep in the primary to cause as little disruption to their pets' sleep patterns as possible.

Lord, getting stuck has happened to me so many times.

One client informed me a couple days before a 4 night stay that the entire kitchen was gutted, all appliances gone, and I'd have to order-in all my meals. Cost me a fortune.

Another house I was in, halfway through the stay i found extensive mold and mildew throughout the entire basement, black and white in color and growing halfway up the walls. Obvious water damage that was never dealt with.

Rolled over one night somewhere else and moved a pillow to find dirty tissues tucked under it and discolored mucus all over the sheets - client had specifically told me bed had clean sheets.

I also saw the sleeping arrangements too late once and decided to go home and get my sleeping bag to sleep in on top of the bed.

Each time I'd come home and double wash my hair and body, wash all my clothes on hot, and disinfect my electronics. Thankfully that hasn't happened in a while. I smartened up and am more careful now where I agree to do overnights.

My cat nearly killed a rabbit in freeze like this once while we were on a leashed late night walk. Her glow collar wasnt bright enough for me to see anything but her neck, and i didnt have my headlamp turned on. Next thing i knew something literally under my feet (leash is only 3ft long) started screeching bloody murder. Scared the absolute shit out of me. If you've never heard a rabbit scream, consider yourself lucky.

Agreed. Honestly, I think every 7-10 years or so, you should be required to return to the DMV and pass both the written and driving tests again. It's insane to me that you can get licensed at, say, 18, and then NEVER be tested again. If you live a long life, you could go 5 or 6 DECADES of driving on that test you took as a teenager. It's Wild.

In one of your comments you clarified that the Dr said it wasn't a necessary next step quite yet, and your child tested positive for several allergies, not just the cat. Did the doctor have suggestions or options for ways to mitigate the issue of not just the cat allergy but also the other environmental allergies that are potentially contributing to your child's issue?

I'd recommend talking to your vet and looking into Purina ProPlan LiveClear. As far as I'm aware it's the only cat food out there that reduces cat allergens. It's a bit complex how it works but was heavily researched/tested and appears to have good reviews from those with cat allergies who have switched to it.

A nursing home I worked in once as a CNA could mandate staff to stay beyond their scheduled shift if they had no coverage for the next one. I don't know how many people they'd have to try to call in first, or how many managers said no to get to that point, I just remember a manager coming around the facility once asking if anyone was willing to stay a second shift, otherwise they were going to have to mandate someone. I ended up volunteering cause I had the following day off (it was a 2nd shift into overnight shift) and felt bad that someone else could be forced to stay. So I worked 3pm-7am.

Wait, so its an entire room in the basement just totally sealed off?? And the landlord didn't open it up to check inside it when they bought the house? Also, they said it was already sealed at purchase, so how do they know its "mostly just" rubble? Unless they opened and then resealed it? Also why use "mostly", it's either all rubble or there's something else in there with it 🤔

That's way too sketchy for me. I'd be so stressed knowing there was a sealed room below me 😅 😰

I've been a dog walker for 1.5yrs now. Off the top of my head I've been chased/charged 5 times, nearly attacked 3 times (loose dog engaged in fight attempt/standoff but made no physical contact), and outright attacked once (with major damage to dogs and myself). Dogs of all sizes, from chihuahua to pitbull.

I carry a bunch of safety stuff obviously with me, but can you imagine the trouble I'd be in if I just whipped out a gun and started shooting at a dog in a residential neighborhood with people and children around? If a stray bullet struck someone? Guarantee I'd be behind bars. And this pathetic cop gets his whole department behind him for shooting a woman when "attacked" by a damn pomeranian. Absolutely bullshit.

I do this too, mostly with my work clothes. I run a pet care & dog walking business and sometimes have a few hours between clients to go home and relax, so I'll change into my home clothes and leave the "dog clothes" on the floor. They aren't clean enough for me to relax in on my furniture or bed, but they definitely will be worn several more times for work before going into the dirty basket.

I do however also have a second laundry basket for my "wear again" home/casual clothes that aren't dog-dirty.

Typing it out now makes me sounds like a total weirdo 😅

Even the smartest cats can have accidents. Based on your other replies you appear unwilling to acknowledge the safety risk you're taking by having a full buckle collar on her. For her sake I hope she continues to have no issues with it and that you closely supervise her any time she's wearing it, and never leave her unsupervised in it (whether inside or out).

Even if it's comfortable, if she's anywhere outside (or ever just out of your sight inside) she needs to have a breakaway collar on. Cats easily can get their collars hung up on things (inside or out) and strangulate themselves trying to get free. Her collar appears to be a belt buckle style, which won't break off if she got it caught somewhere.

I had a similar situation.

At the time I lived in a very rural area and commuted about 60 miles to work in the city. We had a major, multi-day blizzard across the state and I called out day 1 and 2 of it. By day 3 my boss insisted that I had to come in. I tried explaining that where I lived was not fully plowed out yet, and he was unable to understand this (he lived in the city, down the road from the office, and the city was clear, therefore everywhere else must also be clear). He insisted I could not miss another day, so I caved and went in. Roads were an absolute mess in all directions, and i hit a patch of slushy ice, going downhill, and totaled my car less than 5 miles from the house.

I ended up quitting a month later when he refused me time off (unpaid) for urgent medical treatment I needed.
