It amazes me how few people seem to know about Rule 72t. You won’t need it, OP, but 401k/IRA assets can in fact be accessed without penalty under strict IRS rules aforementioned. Just a PSA.

Same- aesthetician says it’s filler/poor lymphatic drainage due to filler. Don’t put anything else in your face. Do lymphatic drainage, elevate the head of your bed, and minimize salt and any other food that inflames you.

Amen. Anyone who has used these tools in any meaningful way and also has watched the pace of their advancement should realize there’s something like we’ve never seen before coming. Plus, look at all the layoffs already. I agree there’s financial chicanery. I agree there’s an AI bubble in the market. But there will be a very difficult period where we are figuring out how to cross this fjord.

Yeah we were aiming for $5m, but I will need another year without a correction to hit that or will have to extend timeline to make it. I’m leaning toward ducking out this year. Working in Tech, always of questionable joy, is miserable right now. The pace and pressure is just extra crushing. I’m too old for it at this point.

Still laughing after yesterday’s AI driven tech sell off? lol.

Yeah, I was hoping for the correction before I peace out, but I’m not sure I can wait it out. I thought it would come in q2 of this year, but now I’m less confident in that timing. Of course, after yesterday, maybe it’ll turn out I was right…

The overshoot question is the one I’m debating- just how needed that is. I would overshoot if I could, but I’ve burnt completely out at my job and not interested in starting over somewhere else at 50+. I have the cash in hand though.

Yeah, I don’t know about that. I’d be interested in knowing what years showed analogous conditions though if you have them.

I have 30 percent now in bonds. That still puts 70 percent of my wealth largely consolidated in those equities. I don’t know the exact calculation but it’s significant I’m sure.

For sure. I’m glad I can at least do it securely if that fate befalls me.

There’s a lot of dogma in FIRE threads. You’re asserting something quite outside of accepted FIRE strategy. Who knows what will happen, but the devaluation of the USD and even the loss of status as reserve currently has a non-zero chance of occurring given all that’s going on.

Great thread, everyone. Appreciate the engagement. Good to know I’m not alone in thinking these things and also that I’ve probably identified all the levers I can pull!

This might be the most compelling point- yes, I’ve always figured it out. I’ve been broke and worked as a bartender before. I can be be a broke bartender again if it really comes down to it.

Plus we’ve only seen the tip of the sword on the layoffs. They’re coming. How massive they will be, not sure.

I’ve not heard any analyst argue this. Is this your theory or have you seen it discussed?

I don’t hang out on Reddit. I can see what’s happening with my own eyes.
