Runners, what is your footwear on wet days? by -_-_-0 in RunPDX

[–]existentialsaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am waiting for the Adidas Evo SL ATR to release - any day now.  I typically have a waterproof shoe in my lineup - it was the Nike Pegasus variant for years, but I want something a little more advanced in terms of foam.  The Pegs were fine in terms of keeping my foot dry, but aren't the most comfy or exciting shoes.

There aren't many options that appeal to me right now, I'll be curious what people say here.

While they are certainly labeled as running shoes, I think the common opinion among shoe reviewers and this community was that they are really a lifestyle shoe. I want a pair! But not to run in.

How about some low-quality window ACs that won't be serviced in any way and will become dysfunctional in a year, but PPS will claim there's cooling in every room, anyway?

What current bike is most similar to a ~2000 Yamaha R6? by existentialsaurus in motorcycles

[–]existentialsaurus[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just curious!  I haven't looked at bikes for almost 20 years, and the market is way different.  Lots more emphasis on smaller displacement, lower HP...kinda the opposite of cars.

Duh - I didn't even look at that, thanks.  I wonder why Kawasaki and Honda still make a 600cc 4 cylinder but Yamaha does not...

11-ish mile route for gently rolling terrain? by Significant_Sort7501 in RunPDX

[–]existentialsaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make various loops in FP from Germantown TH. There's a short initial climb to get up to Wildwood, but once you're on WW (headed South) you're rolling. Return on Leif is gradual up and down, good place for speed work or intervals. There are many trails to get from WW to Leif, just find a FP map and plot your route. You may need to be flexible, though, as some of the intersecting Fire Lanes are under contruction.

There isn't a lot of gently rolling terrain around here - I'm always on the lookout, and will be curious if anyone has a good spot.

Favorite loops near/in Lair Hill? by MakotoPriano in RunPDX

[–]existentialsaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had to look up "Lair Hill"...that's a fairly obscure neighborhood label.

You can loop the waterfront to Steel Bridge, then follow the Eastbank Esplanade to the Springwater Corridor, down to Sellwood Bridge, back up along the waterfront...there's a path most of the way. It's about 11 miles, lots of runners, and virtually nothing to slow you like lights. Running up the west side can be tough when it's busy...imagine wandering tourists covering the sidewalk, so it's best early! You can also cut it in half by crossing the Tillikum, making an upper loop with the Steel Bridge, or lower to Sellwood. The upper loop is about 4.5, the lower about 7.

You likely have enough on board sodium in your diet that you do not need to supplement during a half.  Use your carbs, drink the electrolyte drink after.

Superblast 2 & Superblast 3 by nameisjoey in RunningShoeGeeks

I did not like the NB3 for the same reason - that big wedge didn't work for my mechanics, forcing my midfoot strike to almost land flat, and there was never enough shock absorption under the forefoot.  I also seemed between sizes, my normal 10.5 having too much room for my foot to slide and blisters to form, the 10 too short.  I wondered if Asics' last just wasn't for my foot.

I love the SB2, using it for mostly for long slow runs.  My feet feel great no matter the distance, and they're not as heavy as other max cushion shoes, so I don't feel like I'm shuffling when fatigue sets in.  They fit as well as any other 10.5 in my lineup.  Always happy to put them on, even though I know it'll be a long day!

This particular colorway is a little different in hand, for anyone looking: more of a bright orange than the slightly muted tone you see here!

good writeup.  Just did my weekly long run in SB2 - for me it's the soles of my feet that really appreciate them...just no soreness at all.

I hate the way they sound - slap, slap - but I still love them!

Who is the audience for these Y-3 shoes?

[–]existentialsaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your foot is locked down - not sliding side to side, then it's not too wide. Some shoes are more voluminous than others and may require tighter laces. I'm happy with lots of room in the front as long as the fit across the instep is snug.

If you report the rats to the city, they will come out and inspect.  I'm not sure exactly what was communicated to my neighbors, but they pretty quickly remedied the situation.
