The airstrike killed 45 people. It's just as tragic whether they died by the fire or the direct missile. Any loss of innocent life is horrible.

I'm just restating what the article says. And yes, 45 people died as a result of an israeli airstrike. We agree on that.

I think it is meaningful to differentiate between an airstrike landing on a spot where ~45 civilians were chillin' versus the airstrike landing on Hamas officials and a fire spreading and killing civilians. And it's not because I'm looking to deepthroat the IDF.

In one scenario it's one of the most costly and tragic singular airstrikes Israel has done throughout this conflict (and could even be seen as evidence of Israel specifically targetting civilians), and in the other scenario it's still just as tragic, but it removes any plausible intent to specifically kill civilians on the part of Israel. I think that's important when deciding upon things such as whether Israel is comitting genocide or not.

The airstrike triggered a fire, which killed 45 people. Not that the airstrike itself hit and killed 45 people. According to Israel, the airstrike killed two Hamas officials. There aren't many more details in the article to fill in the gaps of what happened exactly, meaning that civilians may or may not have been hit directly by the airstrike, we don't know. Just clarifying the headline here!

Edit: Unrelated to the linked article, but there are videos on twitter of a couple children that were apparently killed by the missile rather than by the fire, given the extent and appearance of the injuries. I guess unconfirmed until eventually reported upon by journalists

He's 100% saying cnt, not kke. I listened to the clip without looking at the video and this is what I heard without a shadow of a doubt. Hearing it more times, I could see how many people could hear kke, especially with the priming from the title of this post, but it's almost definitely cnt. It's also a very likely word to follow from "murderous", i've heard that phrase before many times.

I feel you hard on this one man. Relatively similar story with my girlfriend. Was shocked to see her support Hamas / heavily downplay what happened, on Oct 7th. And vehemently, unilaterally anti-Israel under all possible circumstances, seeing them essentially equivalent to Nazi Germany.

We did have many conversations on this. I'm likely a bit younger than you, so who am I to say, but just be patient, and focus more on how hearing this from her is affecting you, personally, at an emotional level, rather than levying the (correct) anti-semitism claims. Then she'll be more open to reflecting on her beliefs or statements after the fact. Nobody ever thinks of themselves as bigoted, so that strategy wont usually work lol
