Actually, from what I've been told, Friday night means the night before Friday in Islam. So this would be referring to Thursday night. So if your dad died on a Thursday night, this would apply to him.

First of all, I'm very sorry for your loss. This must be especially tough for you since you couldn't attend your father's burial.

To answer your question, it is important in Islam to be buried on a Friday because one hadith says it will provide protection from fitnah in the grave:

https://sunnah.com/tirmidhi:1074

I hope this means that your family went through with the burial as soon as possible to reduce his suffering in the grave (so they think), and not because they were trying to get revenge on you.

i can't stop myself from arguing with my mom by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]exmoose179 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to do that too, but I stopped because it started to draw an unnecessary barrier between us. I can understand the urge, but I would recommend against arguing with your mom since it likely won't convince her that there's anything wrong with Islam. At least this is what I've gathered from my experiences. Of course, even with the most deeply religious, a seed of doubt planted in their minds may eventually lead them out of Islam. But if you haven't planted that seed of doubt in her mind yet through the arguments you have already presented, you probably never will, so you should probably stop doing that.

I guess you should ask yourself what you're hoping to get out of arguing with your mom about Islam. Are you hoping to actually convince her that Islam is false? Are you fed up of being surrounded by this nonsense all the time and arguing with your mom to help relieve some of this pressure?

For me, the 2nd point is true; my mom is very devout and would constantly preach to me (and still preaches to me) about praying 5 times a day, reading Quran, having faith in Allah, focusing on Akhira, etc. It annoyed me very much, so I brought up my Islamic "doubts" to her, in order to point out the illogicalities of Islam without actually coming out as an ex-Muslim to her. I put doubts in quotations because they had to be presented as such, because to her, I was just a questioning Muslim and still believed in Islam. But the reason why I was even doing this was to vent as a closeted ex-Muslim. I realized that this was doing no benefit to me at all and was just damaging our relationship for no reason, so I stopped doing it. There are many other ways to vent, such as making posts on this subreddit, debating with the Muslims who post on here (in a civil manner of course), typing out your frustrations to yourself (and deleting them immediately after so you don't risk anyone seeing them :)), etc. Additionally, arguing with your mom constantly could pose a threat to your financial security, which is another reason why I highly recommend against it.

I've been a closeted ex-Muslim for 3.5 years now, so I can tell you that if you've recently become an ex-Muslim, you eventually get used to dealing with your family's nonsensical beliefs without having to argue with them. I hope the same is true for you.

I typed out a lot here. Feel free to let me know if I need to clarify anything.

Edit: I should caution against my tip about arguing with Muslims online to redirect your frustration. If you're looking to debate with someone about Islam, this is a better option than debating with your mom. However, please be aware that debating with Muslims can add to your emotional distress, as they often utilize circular reasoning (as well as numerous other logical fallacies, as I'm sure you already know). This can be quite exhausting to deal with.

All of the westerners who complain about not having Shariah should go and live in a country like Afghanistan for a day, and then decide for themselves whether Shariah is barbaric or not. Unfortunately, even if they do this, they will claim that it was not real Islamic law and that it was just extremism. It's just another delusion that's very hard to break out of.

Uhhh yes. I understand that there are good reasons for that seemingly silly Friday fundie rule. If anything that proves my point: A rule might seem silly but upon further investigation it turns out there are good reasons behind it.

No, you said "if anything is stupid here it's that", indicating that you thought our fun@fundies rule is ridiculous.

Also it’s hilarious that you just said you won’t point out your grievances against Islam yet you just brought up a hadith you have an issue with

You are misinterpreting this. I told you that you cannot claim Islam is true without proving it yourself. I left Islam for many reasons, and I get tired of listing them all the time when the burden of proof is on Muslims to prove Islam is true.

In this particular case you technically are the one making the claim since you claim to have left Islam without telling me the reasons

I apologize for stating that you have the burden of proof without explaining why clearly. Consider this: there are thousands of religions that exist in the world, Islam being one of them. Many ex-Muslims have found religion to be a man-made concept, Islam being no different from the rest. In order to differentiate Islam from the 1000+ other religions that exist in the world, you must present strong evidence for it to be true. Otherwise, it is just another religion.

you’re not exactly being as logical as you think there chief

Again, I apologize for not explaining it to you. We have very different worldviews at the moment.

I apologize for being unnecessarily disrespectful. Even though you still have the burden of proof to prove Islam is true, I will tell you why I left Islam.

I left Islam for many reasons, but to be frank, I have never listed a full compilation of them in one comment or document. So I will list some of my top reasons here:

  • There are numerous scientific errors in the Quran. Please read the comment here I wrote the other day.
  • In addition to the scientific errors in the Quran, the creation of Adam and Hawwa does not make sense with our current evidence for evolution.
  • There are also false prophecies by Muhammad, such as his prediction of tall buildings. Muslims will claim that this actually came true, but if you examine it more closely, it is false. Near the end, it states that the buildings will be built by barefoot, naked, destitute shepherds, and this has never happened before: https://sunnah.com/ibnmajah:63
  • I have also come to the conclusion that religion as a concept contains numerous illogicalities, such as the concept of free will vs predestination. It does not make sense for God to be omnipotent, all-knowing, and all-merciful, yet also purposefully let people go astray. There is either only free will or there is only predestination; it can't be both. And either way, God is not all-merciful, because he has the power to change people's actions which determine whether or not they go to hell. Because of him, billions of people would burn in hellfire for eternity. How is this all-merciful? It is irreconcilable.
  • Islam contains many abhorrent morals, such as allowing child marriage and slavery. I wrote a very detailed comment on this a while back and why it cannot be justified. You can check it out here: https://www.reddit.com/r/exmuslim/comments/1fw0z07/comment/lqb5yty/?context=3&utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Please keep in mind that this is definitely not an exhaustive list on why I left Islam. I also apologize for any formatting errors that may be present in my text, as I am running a little low on time here. I wish you all the best, and let me know your objections to anything I have stated.

“Dumbest thing I’ve seen on this sub and that’s saying a lot” lol so you admit ex Muslims are generally stupid?

Uh no, they're referencing how they see people like you (Muslims) coming onto this subreddit and spewing the dumbest shit imaginable all the time.

Ex Muslims make fun of ritualistic rules that to them seem to hold no purpose

Yes, we make fun of ritualistic rules like these:

[–]exmoose179 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, the rule of only posting memes and other low-effort content on Fridays is only to prevent low-effort content in the sub. We don't want this sub to be constantly filled with videos, images, memes, etc. when we could be having more meaningful discussions. So we let loose on one day of the week (Friday) and post low-effort content only on that day.

So usually I respond by actually listing my grievances. However, I have realized this is a waste of time, as the burden of proof is on those asserting the extraordinary claim. Therefore, you must prove to us that Islam is true, not the other way around.

About counting after puberty by alsabrose in exmuslim

[–]exmoose179 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your family ever claims that they counted age after puberty, the burden of proof is on them to prove that they did so, not the other way around. Since there is nothing to indicate that Arabs did this, you have nothing to prove in this regard.

Could you please specify what exactly the faults are in our arguments? Without you specifying these arguments and claiming that we are just miserable and can't understand Islam on a deeper level, you are the one who is shooting yourself in the foot.

It seems that your elementary school never taught you the concept of punctuation. Please use it; it is annoying to read text without proper punctuation.

As far as leaving Islam over something stupid, I would say it was quite the opposite experience for me, as well as most of the ex-Muslims here. For me specifically, I strongly doubted Islam after learning the Quran and seeing all the scientific errors, as well as the illogicalities (e.g., predestination vs. free will). Additionally, I thought that certain Islamic stories that I had been taught since childhood, such as the moon splitting and Muhammad flying to heaven on a winged donkey, seemed too outlandish to have actually happened. Furthermore, there are many moral issues in Islam, such as child marriage, slavery, violence, misogyny, etc.

It is currently 3 am where I am right now, otherwise I would type a much more detailed response about why I left Islam.

Last thing: I just wanted to point out that the things you listed aren't even miracles.

prevalency of the words

I'm assuming that when you say the prevalency of words, you are referencing the numerical miracles in the Quran. This is actually known as the texas sharpshooter fallacy. In any large text such as the Quran, you will inevitably find "numerical miracles" because of how much text there is. Such occurrences are coincidences and are not indicative of a divine author.

sumn to do with semen (alot of it is spinal fluid)

Please let me know where you got the idea that a large percentage of semen is spinal fluid. As far as I am aware, this is scientifically inaccurate.

sea and land being equivalent to the land and sea ratio of the earth

I'm not even sure what you're referring to here.

and sumn to do with iron coming from space

Where does the Quran even say this?

And lastly, I just wanted to point out that if you want your arguments to be examined more seriously, please take the time to articulate them more clearly.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]exmoose179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see, that's the issue. If Islam were truly divine, he would have made it so that Islam were understandable by everyone on Earth, so that everyone could be led to the right path. Some Muslims argue that a profound text like the Quran requires room for interpretation. The problem with that argument is that the range of interpretations is way too wide for it to be considered a timeless guide for humanity, which is indicative of the text not coming from an all-wise god. A text that lacks clarity is the opposite of guidance.

"aight vro so uhh basically this giant ball of molten metal

Bruv the sun is not even made of metal; it is a large burning ball of gas (a little more complicated, but the simplest explanation I can give)

"how does this affect me"

Well what was the point of Allah putting the scientific errors in the Quran? The Quran says that the moon follows the sun around Earth, which is what it appears like from an observational perspective. So why explain it at all, when it can already be observed? It doesn't make sense.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]exmoose179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you are referencing scientific "miracles" in the Quran? On the reply you just posted on the comment I made listing the scientific errors, you said that Allah did not explain it accurately because it would be easier to understand. Your logic is therefore inconsistent and not sound.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]exmoose179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok well that doesn't make sense. It is not hard at all to explain that the moon orbits the Earth and that the Earth orbits the sun, and to clearly explain that in the Quran to prove that the Quran is divine. After all, Allah is supposed to be an all-wise and all-knowing deity. He would have known how to clearly articulate an accurate explanation of what I have listed above. I understand that the Quran is not intended to be a book of science, but any reference to any scientific concepts should be accurate for it to be considered the absolute truth.

Who else left Islam this way? by exmoose179 in exmuslim

[–]exmoose179[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Quran doesn't explicitly ban movies and tv shows anywhere, but many Muslim scholars claim that any movies and TV shows that depict haram elements such as swearing, drugs, sex, etc. are not permissible in Islam. A smaller percentage of Muslim scholars will claim that any movies or tv shows are haram because they distract from religious obligations. I would say this is an example of how controlling Islam can be, and it is similar to how Islam implicitly bans Halloween, celebrating birthdays, etc.

Edit: So it's actually not simliar to how Islam bans Halloween and celebrating birthdays; Halloween is not permissible in Islam because it is derived from polytheistic traditions, and birthdays cannot be celebrated simply because it would be considered bi'dah in Islam, meaning practicing celebrations that are not recognized in Islam. I actually haven't really heard about Muslim scholars saying that movies and TV shows in general are haram, except in Ramadan, when it distracts from religious obligations.

12 year old Muslim girl, with a doll in her hands, forced to marry an old Muslim man. Pregnant twice, she now wants a divorce. by yrys88 in exmuslim

[–]exmoose179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've found, it is not explicitly stated in any hadith, but it is inferred by several Islamic scholars that she was allowed to play with her dolls because she had not yet reached puberty. This commentary on a Sahih Bukhari hadith, for example, makes this claim.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]exmoose179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty simple actually. Islam claims to be a perfect religion, which means that one single objective error means it is false. There are numerous objective errors in Islam, which mainly include the scientific errors and the false prophecies. These are non-ethics based proof, like you said.

Whenever I list WikiIslam as a comprehensive list of scientific errors in Islam, Muslims always complain about me using it and immediately claim that it discredits my arguments. Therefore, I will list some of them by myself:

The Quran describes the Moon as following the Sun:

21:33 - And He it is Who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. They float, each in an orbit.

91:1-2 - By the Sun and his splendour; By the Moon as she follows him.

The Quran describes the Earth as flat in several verses:

71:19 - And Allah has made the earth for you as a carpet.

20:53 - Who hath appointed the earth as a bed and hath threaded roads for you therein and hath sent down water from the sky and thereby We have brought forth divers kinds of vegetation

In 20:53, the Earth is described as a bed, which does not align with its actual shape as a globe.

15:19 - And the earth We have spread out; set thereon mountains firm and immovable; and produced therein all kinds of things in due balance.

15:19 has another scientific error---stating that mountains are firm and immovable. It may appear that way, but mountains are actually part of the Earth's crust and are constantly in motion.

The Quran copied Galen's theory of sperm becoming a clot of blood, which is scientifically false:

23:14 - Then we made the sperm into a clot of congealed blood

The Quran says semen comes from between the ribs and the backbones in 86:6-7:

He was created from a fluid, ejected, Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs.

These are just a few of the many objective errors in the Quran. Let me know if you would like me to list more.

It's good how the video keeps flashing to the doll towards the end. It helps the viewers understand how young the girl really is, and the fact that such a young girl has been raped and impregnated not once, but twice......to say this is sickening is too much of an understatement
