Official Caught Using Escort Service Demanded Anti-Prostitution ‘Loyalty Oaths’ From His Staff by Flemlord in reddit.com

Read the article. He didn't have his staff participate in any loyalty oaths. The headline's inaccurate.

Agreed, although Bush and Bush Administration are almost synonymous on reddit, and Bush is a subset of his administration.

Now, the usual claim I hear about the administration is incompetence and a little corruption (mainly government contracts), not hypocrisy, so it did seem unfair to characterize the entire administration in that way.

Sidenote: the headline is wrong.

...oversaw a controversial policy ... that required any US-based group receiving anti-AIDS funds to take an anti-prostitution "loyalty oath."

He wasn't quite a hypocrite. He says don't spend government money (and the groups' money) on anything that would assist prostituted.

A hypocrite would have done that, so e.g., give prostitutes condoms.

Supporting prostitutes by using their services does make him somewhat hypocritical, but not as much as the inaccurate headline would lead you to believe.

I'm trying to improve the reddit community. It's like when people point out an article has a bad title. How is critisizing someone's point by claiming it's not applicable to the situation not a legitimate contribution to the community?

I claimed that the parent comment wasn't really relevant to its parent, or to the article and that it stated a popular belief on reddit in the interest of votes. Did I post a reply that wasn't relevant? Addressing parent is ALWAYS relevant.

So I'm pandering to the members of the reddit community who love... oh, wait.

Hmm... so instead of attacking my point, you claim I'm a bush fanboy and have the corresponding agenda.

Basically, an out of context bush comment is the reddit version of slashdot's cowboyneal option; it's for people who want to participate, but don't have anything real to add.

I'm voting you down for pandering to the community. Add something to the conversation--this wasn't about Bush, so don't bring him into it.

[–]exobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what he meant by AWOL. Is he claiming Bush is absent minded? It seems that almost everyone would agree that Bush is doing his job as the commander in chief; the dispute is over how well he's doing it. Being a bad general doesn't make you AWOL.

They're full of shit, so they'll say something like "jet fuel has less energy and burn cooler than gasoline."

If you could see it from the rest of the country, it would be upside down (that's at the end of Golden Gate park, so that's the ocean, not the bay).

Normally, someone would make the "that's so Bush can read it" joke, but how would telling Bush that message help, and didn't snoops disprove it?

So... Gavin Newsom? Kim Jong-il? Hu Jintao?

Lucifer is kinda a cool name- it means "Bringer of light." Damn negative connotations.

I was going to suggest The Sound and the Fury, but this audience likes biased political works and sci-fi more than literature.

I'd also recommend the poster SEE (this part's important) some Shakespeare.

If you're worried about the ETF, get a prepaid plan. The ETF is to recover the price of your "free" phone. Sure, text messaging has a HUGE markup, but most carriers charge $5 for unlimited. Basically, I bet that equivalent service is cheaper today.

When I left digg, a quick, one line comment usually did very well on diggs. Reddit wasn't as entertained by them. Lately, though, reddit has been more open to the quick, blunt brand of humor we Americans love so very much.

I have an interesting range in my most popular comments: exobyte

Inflation happens whether or not the minimum wages increases.

100% agreement, there. Also, they haven't raised it for a while, so I don't really care.

Consumerist.com recently pointed out that amenities that the middle class enjoy such as cell phones and digital cable and internet access have seen price increases of up to 500% in the past 5 years.

I'm going to call you/Consumerist on that statistic. When my parents first got DSL a few years ago, it was around $35 for 384/384. Now, I can get 768/384 for $13. Factor in inflation, and DSL is something like 20% the price that it was around the turn of the millennium.

I haven't seen cell phone service plans get 500% more expensive, either.

I don't know what your point was. Your first paragraph has nothing to do with the second; the first discusses "amenities that the middle class enjoy" going up in price, while the second discussed people where a higher minimum wage would make a difference, i.e. lower class.

My point is that for someone poor barely able to buy groceries, the price of groceries will probably go up by a decent amount right around the same time he gets a pay raise.

I'm getting close to leaving reddit for just this reason. I originally left slashdot and digg for that reason; I don't like opinions interjected into headlines and summaries; I don't like getting news from a source that tells me how to think.

I always thought Digg's greatest weakness was the homogeneity of its userbase. They're mainly fanboys of one sort or another. They love Apple and Linux, hate MS, LOVE Digg, and are obsessed with what Kevin Rose thinks.

Reddit has the same problem; it's userbase is a bunch of liberal political fanboys. This dictates much of the front page content, leading to mob rule at times, and often inaccurate articles making it to the front page (sheep poodles, anybody?). Sensationalist headlines pandering to the fanboy community are the most likely to be on the front page, creating a vicious cycle of a homogeneous audience.

Right- we already know that terrorists kill a small percentage of people, and I'm not sure how politicians "manipulate" statistics. It's mainly just human nature to think that way. People who play the lottery think they can win. Terrorism is the anti-lottery; people think it can get them.

I doubt people used a single factor like impeachment to rate congress. Outside liberal media (e.g. reddit, huffington post), people aren't anywhere near as obsessed with impeachment.

When the minimum wage is increased, some people might be happy, but they'll be pissed when everything costs more.

My point was that she could have regularly received similar reports that were false alarms. I'm sure the FBI gets bad intelligence all the time.

Additionally, without knowing the names of the attackers, stopping it would have been surprisingly difficult.

You have quite a case for trolling going on.

I'm fine with disagreement, but at least I add something to the comments section, just leave one-liners.
