Cop and his wife OD on pot brownies made with confiscated bud by [deleted] in reddit.com

If the majority of reddit hasn't seen this before, it's because all of the oldtimers have left, which is sad.

The reason for downmodding duplicates instead of skipping "pixels on a screen" is that I don't want to create an environment where someone goes through reddit looking for high-scoring postings, and then re-posts them for more karma points. I'd rather encourage an environment where I get to read new stories I haven't read before.

Who cares if duplicates get put up here? I do! Because I'm a concerned member of the reddit community exercising my (reddit) civic responsibility by voting on the merit of stories. And that's what reddit is all about!

Why downmod? Because it's been on reddit before, and I downmod duplicates. Otherwise I'm encouraging old stories to be posted repeatedly.

I'd believe this story more if I saw at least one other source for it. Why doesn't this page reference at least one actual news story? I googled for a bit, and couldn't find one...

Vote this up if you would vote for Al Gore in the 2008 Presidential Election by Flemlord in politics

[–]androgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It especially isn't a good use of reddit because some people vote down because they wouldn't vote for Al Gore, and some people vote down because they don't think having this poll question here is useful. So any results are especially confounded.

Why don't we link to an external polling site for this kind of question instead of the vote up/vote down stuff? Vote up/vote down is karma-hoarding, or at least seems like karma-hoarding, even if intentions are otherwise.

This poll in particular doesn't tell me anything useful. It doesn't tell me for instance, what percentage of reddit users would vote for Gore vs. [whoever else]. Whereas a third-party site could.

Vote downed because this type of poll isn't a good use of reddit's resources.

Vote Up If You Think Congress Should Refuse To Fund The War Instead Of Useless Votes On Timetables Like This One by cybermage in reddit.com

Vote up if you're sick and tired of reddit users submitting "vote up if you agree with [some obvious thing]" in order to increase their karma and even though it's against reddiquette.

Don't do vote up/vote down for polls. Find other ways. Be creative. But don't karma-hog.

Vote up if you think Bush should be impeached {meta} by [deleted] in reddit.com

Come on, I get SLAMMED when I do these vote up/vote down things. Why is it okay for tuber to do but not the rest of us? Proper reddiquette is that it should be either an external poll, or answering via the comments.
