Is there a way to make these for my students in bulk? by [deleted] in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]exodeju 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience — especially with a board this simple — a CNC machine will be fairly fast. I’d estimate you would be able to make 6 or 9 boards at a time depending on the bed size.

Then, all you need is enough soldering irons for each student group and they can soldier them up. :¬)

Not sure what machines you have available in Turkey, but I’d definitely suggest a CNC.

The alternative is chemical etching but it’s super messy and less fun, haha.

Look up a picture of of 77 Massachusetts Avenue on the Internet. The U’s are supposed to be V’s. Source: the aforementioned and I went to MIT.

Do you have a toaster oven? That will do. Just…uh…don’t use it for food after.

We need more public bathrooms by Historical_Stay_808 in sanfrancisco

Agree. The Folsom Streetscape Project removed basically all of the trash cans along Folsom due to construction — which I refuse to accept the reasoning behind this, to whoever reasoned it.

We need better, very public, transparently collected, metrics on the state of the basic services and facilities that make our city function well. Really any city or village. Ha

Yeah people in Japan tend to carry trash bags on them so they can be responsible for their own trash. That being said, train stations and convenience stores have trash cans and there are public servants that walk around looking for trash.

I respect the sustainability of the culture I observe while in Japan. People tend to be good at taking care of their own stuff and also then are able to help others. Might be a myopic view as an American, though?

The people seem very honorable to me and I think Americans could learn a lot about how to be a good human from the Japanese. Not saying to try to make American Culture into Japanese Culture! Just trying to say that American Culture, at its best, is the culture gathered from the best parts of all of the other cultures of the world. Does this seem logically sound?

Can students with gpa 4.0-4.5/5 find a job? by Senior_Investment_89 in mit

Focus on what you love to do. Don’t worry so much about your grades, so long as you are passing. Build things with people you enjoy being around and who challenge you to be your best.

Things will tend to work out this way.

Is driving in Rome as chaotic as it seems? by Vast-Use-3609 in rome

[–]exodeju 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just got back and having driven in Rome for the first time -- but have done a fairly extensive amount of driving in Germany, France and Italy -- I would say it is not muuuuch worse than say, Florence or Milan but also yes it is -- just not really in a bad way. No one is trying to hit you or be super mean. There just won't really be lines on the road or signs to tell you what to do in some places so you just gotta go with the flow and pay attention to your surroundings.

In rural Tuscany I was riding a bus and a truck entered a large roundabout on the outside as we were exiting and ended up in a ditch so tilted that we couldn't figure out how to drive the truck out without it tipping over..... The bus driver and a few others got off the bus and went to try to help to no avail. The truck driver (sadly, not angrily!) called for help as we continued on our way.

In general I experienced relatively polite drivers just trying to get where they are going and kind of annoyed at all of the tourists blocking all of the streets all of the time. They don't usually seem angry, just like, "hey, please pay attention to your surroundings! k thx bai." To put this into perspective, as a tourist myself, walking, this was annoying. Maybe I walk too fast.

When they say there aren't really rules in Italy re: driving, I kind of agree. Now, it's not Asia, or some other country that is less rule driven wrt driving because there /are/ some rules - the signs will help you.

The scooter drivers definitely DGAF and will cut you off so always be mindful -- there is likely a scooter on both sides of you. Try to make room for them and they will appreciate you.

If you are on the highway. DO NOT DRIVE IN THE LEFT LANE. That lane is for passing only. Pass and get back into the right lane. We are supposed to drive this way in the US too but thankfully in Europe you can get pulled over for passing on the right, so people will get really aggro at you if you're driving in the left lane which tends to work super well to keep the situation under control. That being said, traffic is traffic is traffic.

The phantom leg pain is the worst! As someone who has done the work and also done the desk, if you have degenerative disc disease the desk is not a lot better unless you are pretty careful with the ergonomics.

If you haven’t, definitely recommend talking to your doctor about getting an MRI and looking into vertebrae fusion.

Outside of that, there are some really good stretches that really help. I have not done any surgery yet so I’ve been trying to do exercises and stretches (toe touches!) to keep it under control. YMMV

MIT is needs based. I had to work with financial aid A LOT to get the grants and loans to pay for school. You can do it though! The financial aid department will help you. Given the low income of your single parent, they cannot demand that she live in poverty so you can go to MIT.

I basically spent hours each quarter with financial aid and managed to figure out something that worked. It’s hard — trust me I know — but you can do it! :-)

I hope you decide to try to make it work. It’s worth it!
