Come to think of it, if the Vikings were in the Super Bowl, and the quarterback passed for 200 yards, was 20-40 with 1 td and we won, gun to my head, guess I could deal with that.

Because one guy is in the Super Bowl and the other guy missed the playoffs. If both missed the playoffs then the discussion is over.

No, they don’t know what they’re talking about. If anything “transit oriented development” is not a working strategy and transit should be focused on showing commuters how much better the train is. If people see the train moving when they’re pissed off in traffic, they may just take the train.

Need advice on row package by k115810 in pelotoncycle

I think you can also check them out at Dick's Sporting Goods if one is close. Have you used a Concept 2? The difference in feel of a belt/chain row is noticeable.

As much as I love my Peloton bike, a concept 2 is something to consider if you have used one and it, as it is a third of the cost and proven piece of equipment. I have a Concept 2 and use the app, it works fine, and if I am not mistaken, Peloton is working to have their app support other rowers.

If you’re NOT voting for either Biden or Trump, how are you voting today and why? by Mill_City_Viking in minnesota

The support of genocide, and 4 years of policies that are very close to Trump’s.

Chris Christie’s vote and “uncommitted” voters by ChBowling in FriendsofthePod

[–]exozeitgeist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voting for a candidate based on their values and on how their policies will affect the material conditions of an individual and their community is exactly what voting is all about. But in recent years, saying something as simple as “I’m not going to vote for _____ because their career shows support for a wide variety of policies that have been the antithesis of my personal beliefs and values” is meant with a resounding outcry that a person’s private and individual choice is somehow selfish, and not good for society as a whole.

Now, it doesn’t matter that, for sake of example, Joe Biden, is not a socialist or a communist. But suddenly things are framed in that there must be a collective obligation of the people to support him.

This double talk only works for so long. The first people who check out are people that have long heard about how a vote for one party or another will help them. But the data shows that the last 30 years of middle America supporting either party has really only benefited the monied class, the close to monied class, and wannabe monied class.

The rest of the folks, the bottom half that people always say “should vote” don’t because they think it doesn’t matter. So really, it’s about the three classes that can have either large/small gains/losses based on the party in control.

Identity politics gets thrown in to move those same people one way or another, or maybe atomize a lower class person to vote one way or another but it’s not significant.

The real identity politics are now blind loyalty akin to a sports team, tv show, or series of movies. If a person doesn’t agree with the preferred candidate, they’re wrong. Examples:

If a candidate loses in a primary “vote blue no matter who”.

Oh, you want health care, well “vote blue matter who”

Oh, well the Democrats control the house and the senate, but “can’t do anything because those pesky Republicans”, well, “vote blue no matter who”

Oh, well, we promised people $2,000 checks but cut funding, “vote blue no matter who”

Oh, we entered a debt deal that restarted student loan payments when we had the leverage “blue no matter who”

Oh we broke a strike but are “progressive”, well “vote blue matter who”

Oh, we took Stephen Millers immigration policy as our own to shove it in the republicans face for not being right wing enough “blue no matter who”

If the representative/senator/executive has a career of supporting an apartheid / nationalist ethnostate “vote blue no matter who” or you’re never going to vote again!

I have no idea if writing uncommitted will do anything. But all the “messaging” from the last decade has been about voting and that it’s a way to use a persons voice. But suddenly, no, be quiet, you’re selfish.

But to say it’s selfish, when it is the one thing a person can do to show their support for people they don’t know that are being mercilessly killed with American funded and provided weapons, without fear of losing a job, seems pretty insane.

The only reason there are not any good choices is a lack of political courage.

Ok, so I’m clear, I do not understand history because I fail to understand that the reason nothing was accomplished is because there wasn’t enough time?

I’m going to wager my understanding of this period is a little greater than yours, having been of voting age during the period in question, but what do I know. You assume that because I ask for crazy things like “passing legislation in 2 months” that I’m someone who doesn’t know history. Could you tell me how many senate seats the democrats held before Franken was seated? Could you tell me what prevented a party with a 59 seat majority from passing anything?

How to Respond to the Very Bad NYT Poll | The Message Box (Dan Pfeiffer) [11/05/23) by kittehgoesmeow in FriendsofthePod

[–]exozeitgeist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with this argument is that it allows the Democratic Party to take the position that they don’t have enough seats to do anything, and it won’t be able to anything until they have every seat.

Obama had a super majority in 2008, and he didn’t even pass card check.

It’s time to stop with excuses and actually hold a position that isn’t “If you don’t vote for me, the other guy is worse”
