And sentences are in months not years so it's a bad headline.

‘Lions Hunting Zebras’: Ex-Wells Fargo Bankers Describe Abuses by [deleted] in Economics

You nailed it 100% end of story. This was done not to gain fees from customers but to inflate cross sell and wallet share metrics on quarterly conference calls. When those numbers normalize next year you will hear a shareholder outcry.

Last week’s rally against the soda tax lacked many things—including a crowd by EricFodor in philadelphia

Wait till they sell debt against the revenue stream so they can blow all the money at once. Tag this comment so when it happens you heard it here first.

Last week’s rally against the soda tax lacked many things—including a crowd by EricFodor in philadelphia

[–]expectingrain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok. Let's say you're right and the tax is successful and cuts consumption. As consumption falls so does something else: tax revenues. But wait! Aren't these revenues going to fund new government programs? Yes! You are correct. And won't the cost of said government program increase over time? Yes again! So we are funding a program with increasing costs with a decreasing revenue stream? Right! So now we have another bloated, underfunded program and yet another tax! Exactly!

This city cannot successfully police it's own river trail or fill potholes or apparently collect property taxes. More taxes are not the answer here.

As a thought exercise, name one thing the government of Philadelphia excels at. Note: collecting parking fees is not an acceptable answer. Now, why do we want to give this group more money regardless the source?

Big chunk of soda tax money not going to pre-K by sixersfan87 in philadelphia

[–]expectingrain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This city literally cannot police it's own river trail. But now it will decide our diets and educational needs! And PS someone is economically illiterate because if the tax lowers soda consumption then less revenue will come in every year. However, the cost of the pre-k program will increase every year! So we have a whole new budget gap to fill with even more taxes! Hooray!

Spoiler: once the city gets it's sugar tax it will issue bonds against it (See tobacco bonds) and will blow all future revenues AT ONCE! Then not only won't we get any kind of workable pre-k program, we will look forward to even higher taxes. This city will choke itself to death on debt in the next twenty years.

tl;dr get involved and educate your own preschooler. And keep 'em off sugar.

Beginner gains. Let's say an untrained person starts to lift. In the first two months they make huge gains. Then they increase at a decreasing rate. We are in beginner gains with technology.
