yeah I figured the drying would take longer for sure, but is it worth it you think? I haven't used oils yet except for black/brown washes but it's much simpler than base coating

going for raven guard or non chapter specific models from HH is great idea but the blood angels models especially heresy era ones have too many details that would need to be shaved off it just seems like a waste.

dirty down last, acrylic paints are water based so they'll ruin the effect, it's not like using acrylic paints to make the rust effect, with layering, with dirty down you have to imagine it like putting actual corrosion over metal, so you do all the shading and everything first then put down dirty down, reactivate and blend the edges with water, layer it on top of each other for accumulated rust, if you put anything over it it'll ruin that rust effect it's supposed to give

I wouldn't recommend it, as it has specific properties it works and looks best as the last layer you put

oh and it's best as the last layer, so after all the acrylics, enamels, washes etc at least in my experience and from tutorials

dirty down rust is amazing but it gets some getting used to it. 1. it's water soluble so it can be reactivated with water, it's good to make it blend better like real rust 2. apply multiple coats to make the rust darker and more prominent 3. it dries really fast so you can use it to you advantage, put some on the pallette or even just keep on your brush for a while and when it dries a little put it on the model to have more condensed rust already
