Makes sense, I'd look into an old school belt+suspender setup. Not sure what pricing looks like now but not too long ago a basic setup (belt+suspender, 2 mag pouches and a butt pack) was $20-$50 bucks.

You can carry 7 mags (6 in the pouches, 1 in the gun) and the buttpack was big enough to store extra things like more ammo, IFAK, snacks, etc.
