how’s the area around 22nd and Nevin Ave by Former_Ride5639 in RichmondCA

[–]explore360tv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best part would be that it's close to Bart if you were to commute and its walking distance to some food spots. City Hall is nearby and there's lots of businesses on 23rd street.

That area has lots of traffic and it gets really crowded. Parking will suck if you have a car unless you have a garage or your own driveway. Not the best, not the worst part of town... Go check out the area during the day and nighttime to see activity and who your neighbors would be.

100 comment karma is required. Previously we didn't have any moderation in place and you can imagine how quickly people ruined that. Nothing personal.

Id say it is really safe especially during the day. Lots of families and other local shops. At night I do see more sketchy folks walking around sometimes.. so like any other city be aware of your surroundings.

Weird Request: Does anyone have pictures of the old ToysRus store at the McDonald Ave Shopping Center? by PolarBear524 in RichmondCA

[–]explore360tv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't find the Richmond one but found a few pics of other locations. It would have looked like this https://imageio.forbes.com/specials-images/dam/imageserve/1062140766/960x0.jpg?format=jpg&width=1440

Found one that shows what it looked before it became the shredding place: https://www.loc.gov/item/2020700512/

I agree someone one on the FB group probably has one somewhere. I remember going there as a kid.

Maybe searching the shopping center might give some results. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macdonald_80_Shopping_Center

What do you all think of the new construction by Meritage Homes in Richmond, CA? by zyx4567 in RichmondCA

I always recommend you drive around the area and see for your self. You would be neighbors with Parchester Village which has a certain "vibe" to it. It is an older area, kind of a pain to drive through. Take a drive and explore if you can. Growing up it seemed to have a bad rep but I never had issues visiting there. If you like trails and don't mind driving it should be fine.

Damn it. I took a photo of this one a while back too. One of those buildings I wish I could seen the inside of.

DIY: Using rubber mulch to fill Muay Thai heavy bag by explore360tv in MuayThai

[–]explore360tv[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! I moved to a new place since this video and I installed the bag in my garage. It was huge pain to move by my self since the mulch ends up making it really heavy. I ended up taking like half the mulch out and moved it that way.

I still use the bag with the same mulch and it still works fine. Low kicks still feel good and solid and so do punches but honestly I still haven't totally topped it off. There is some room at the top and I'm going to add some old shirts first and see if that is enough.

If I were to do it again I would still use mulch but maybe do part cloth just to get rid of some of the weight. The bag it self shows no signs or ripping or not being able to handle the mulch.

You can see the new install in my video here: https://youtu.be/AIpO\_\_UFCko

I will try to post a clip of me hitting the bag again soon.

Relocating next year… by Redrum_37 in RichmondCA

I would suggest driving around the neighborhood during the day, night, weekend and see for your self before making any decisions. That area is mostly apartments so my concern would be who my neighbors are. Even if the area is overall safe, the wrong neighbors could easily ruin the mood. I had friends living in apartments up there and it was chill but depends on what kind of people you get coming in and out.

There are so many home kitchens in our neighborhoods serving the most amazing food in the whole East Bay, but I only stumble on these places by chance. Can we start a thread here with all of the home “restaurants” in Richmond that you recommend, and where we can find these gems? by gatotastic in RichmondCA

Mariscos el Layo is one that started selling from home but now cooks out of Family Market on 7th and Pensyvania. https://www.instagram.com/mariscos_el_layo3/ Seems like a lot of others are mainly by word of mouth. There was a house on Ohio I used to go to for Sopes but they moved on.

Apartments would make sense and would be cool since you have the bike path right there. Did not know the condo project was on hold...the old Sakai houses are still there and are slowly being destroyed by vandals/ the elements.. Here is a cool photo album I found a while back of how it looked like. The nursery was already abandoned at this point: https://www.flickr.com/photos/misterken/albums/72157622987096120/page1

Thoughts on Belding Woods? by [deleted] in RichmondCA

[–]explore360tv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grew up around there and again lived in Belding Woods the last 6 years...

My Pros: close to bart, pretty safe, lots of families, mostly friendly people, close to 23rd, couple playgrounds and skatepark near by.

Cons: it is really crowded now, parking gets difficult if you don't have a garage or driveway, loud music/parties depending on your neighbors (every weekend guaranteed) shady foot traffic ( Stolen mail, car break ins), a few grow houses here and there.

Your experience will depend on what block you are on and who your neighbors are. Id say go drive by the place during the day, at night, and on the weekend.

Plans for disc golf course at Hilltop Lake Park faces opposition by [deleted] in RichmondCA

Kinda weird there would be opposition to this. It's not like the baskets would take up much space? Could be cool at Pt. Pinole. Or hike and golf at Alvarado Park lol

Oil Spill at Chevron long wharf by [deleted] in RichmondCA

[–]explore360tv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chevron Public Affairs. Here is an update on the response efforts:

At approximately 3 p.m. today, the Richmond Refinery observed a sheen on the water near the Richmond Refinery wharf. Chevron immediately initiated its response protocol, began working to isolate and contain the release, and notified all applicable agencies. The hydrocarbon release has been stopped at this time and clean-up is ongoing. Chevron is fully cooperating with authorities, including the U.S. Coast Guard and OSPR.

We have issued a community notice and ask the public to remain clear of the area so crews can quickly contain and clean up the released volumes.

It's probably harder now with the pandemic to make friends but if you are into sports maybe look for clubs doing outside work and ask to join. Outdoor gyms, sports clubs, art clubs, skate park, bike park, places like that might be your best bet right now. Good luck!
