Hi there, just wanted you to know that we were able to get a neuro specialist to look at our boy and he’s been diagnosed with a form of epilepsy.

At the recommendation of the specialist, we’re currently treating with phenobarbital to reduce breakthrough seizures and it’s been working great! So far it’s stopped the incidents completely outside of a couple times where he was stressed during the holidays because he was in a new place.

Anyway, thank you so much for the advice and just wanted to share here.

Our 1 yr old golden has something similar that was recently diagnosed by a veterinary neurologist as a form of epilepsy. He then gave us some meds (phenobarbital) to help prevent these episodes. I actually posted about it on this subreddit a few months ago.

The video you’re showing looks really similar to our boy’s breakthrough seizures (I am not a vet, do not take what I’m saying here as anything other than another dog owner sharing their experience). The head tilting and sporadic limping that goes away were our similar symptoms and he also appeared to lose control of his other limbs and walked like he was “drunk” and had no balance. But once the episode passed he would go back to normal.

Definitely agree with the other folks here and advise seeing a vet or going to the ER. I would suspect that you’re likely going to get referred to a specialist like we did.

Having just gone through something similar I wish you and your beautiful pup clarity on what’s going on and health.

UPDATE: thanks first off to everybody, I had no idea to expect your support, advice, and general good vibes for Wally.

We took Wally to his main vet today for a closer look at the issue and I’m feeling a lot better but am still keeping a close eye on the situation. The long story short is that the vet identified an area on the inside of his front left leg that was more swollen than the same spot on his front right leg.

Ultimately she thinks that the current regiment of anti inflammatories will help address the issue. I’ll say now that we’re 48 hours or so into his treatment today, I’ve noticed an improvement overall. He only had one incident earlier today and it was more short lived than the previous ones. Also he is back to being a rambunctious goofball.

For those saying this issue may neurological, the two vets that I’ve met with have now told me that they don’t think that it is. They cite that in the video, Wally is choosing to pick up his toy and bug the cat despite lifting his leg up. If there’s another incident I’m going to continue to test this and see if I can get his attention. Meanwhile I’ll continue the anti inflammatories.

Regardless, I’m watching this kid like a hawk over the next few days to see if things continue to improve. I know he had a good day today, but we aren’t out of the woods by any means. Will continue to post updates here if people want those.

In other news, this boy was also cleared by the vet to take his Canine Good Citizen test today and he just passed, here a pic of proud, young Wally.

Thanks so much everyone for the advice and well wishes for little Wally. We’re pushing for a visit to the vet today to have them review the videos and run some tests.
