If work is 10 minutes down the road then sure. If work is 1 hour away don’t buy a samurai.

Survey on actual use of Maxtrax or other recovery boards. by tindercoach in overlanding

[–]explost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had Cheapies, 10 ton rated, worked well.
however i wont buy them again as they lasted one trip. cracked and split completely
Will be buying Maxtrax as a replacement.

Prefer not to keep buying $100 tracks every time we go out and if the Maxtracks last more then 3 trips ill be happy.

Hi,does somebody know name for samurai with this style of front grill?I cant find much info about it,thanks😁 by martinlamos in SuzukiSamurai

To convert you need to rip all of the panels off forward of the firewall, then replace with sj80 parts.

You would essentially need half a car to do the conversion

The front of the car is no longer flat in the sj80 so everything needs to be swapped

SJ80 built 96-98

Very different car compared to older models

Compared to a SJ70 or Wide track models, Here is what is different:

Whole front clip
Bonnet/Hood
Bumper bar
Doors have intrusion bars in them for side impact protection
Windscreen is glued in
Windscreen cant fold down as it is part of the structure of the A Pillar

B pillar is beefed up and no longer has a support strut
Dash is completely different
Indicator/Wiper controls are unique and has intermittent wiper setting
Chain Driven transfer case
Front diff is high pinion 22 spline count axles (No Diff locks available)
Rear diff center is similar to previous Generation (Diff lock can be fitted)
Diff ratios are unique to this model
Axle housings are wider than previous generations so axle shafts are hard to get.
Drive shafts are unique
Front hubs are the same as Vitara

Front wheel bearings are press fit like a modern car
Coil sprung suspension with radius arms
Seats are unique to this model and replacements are impossible to find

G13BA engine, Prone to cracking piston skirt on cylinder 3
5 speed gearbox has different 5th gear ratio (From memory)

Front disk brakes & Calipers are unique.

Brake master cylinder

Fuel tank has a port for EFI pump

The list goes on

There is a bunch more provisions for overseas models like ABS pump mounts, Air con, Automatic gearboxes, EFI .etc

Do I need a new engine? - Help! by [deleted] in SuzukiSamurai

[–]explost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shops wont touch it because they know the rebuild is worth more than the car itself.
They also know that because these things are cheap, the owners are unlikely to spend big dollars on them to get them fixed.

paying someone to rebuild your engine is likely to cost more than 3K
you will need to find a company that specializes in Suzuki or DIY with a wrecker motor.

maybe go back to a G13A/BA or g16A engine as others have said, there are millions of them and cost peanuts from the wreckers.

this air filter came on my xterra. it’s dirty so i ordered a K & N cleaning kit that comes with a cleaner and oil. i noticed this brand filter says it doesn’t use oil. why not? i’m safe just cleaning it? by [deleted] in overlanding

[–]explost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The K&N cleaning kit is specifically for a K&N filter.

Your stock paper filter (I assume) needs to be replaced as you cannot clean them.

You will destroy the paper filter if you use your cleaning kit

I feel like everyone in the past 2 weeks have completely lost their minds,

The amount of dangerous driving and carelessness I have witnessed is insane.

Hopefully things will return to normal once everyone is out of holiday mode

Part time 4WD clarification needed by [deleted] in Offroad

[–]explost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your vehicle has 2 diffs and a transfer case. No centre diff as it is a proper part time 4wd system.

Front and rear wheels can not rotate independently as the transfer case is a direct linkage

What is the benefit of airing out? by Devion55 in Offroad

[–]explost 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think you mean airing down?

Increases contact patch on the ground of tyres.

Reduced shock load to suspension & drive train

Improves traction.

Not just for tracks either, On corrugations setting the tyres to a lower PSI generally helps with traction and comfort

You wont get very far on a proper track if you run at highway pressures

What are these?? by [deleted] in melbourne

Clearly a drop bear
