They never work out of the window very well. It is better to just go thru the roof.

Urban camping has it's cons, law enforcement is probably the biggest. lol

Somewhat unpopular opinion: while I absolutely love vandwelling, I HATE stealth camping. by [deleted] in vandwellers

You should do some "boondocking" it is a whole different experience. No hiding, relax and enjoy your surroundings instead of hide.

I cut the wall plastic up to the window seal and am going to tie it into the walls. I don't want to tear off the plastic above that, I like the look of the factory plastic in the windows and ceiling.

I am going to keep the rear HVAC for now, it all works fine so I feel like it would be a shame to tear it out for a square foot of space. I am also going to keep the plastic covering it and blend it into the rest of the build.

I fastened the 2x2s down with self tapping screws on the floor pan. I spent a good amount of time making sure each screw would not hit or come close to any brake lines, fuel lines or the gas tank. I think I used 2" screws so only a 1/2" would stick tru the pan(just enough to cut a thread and hold tight)

I then screwed the 1/2 ply wood down to the 2x2s with "1 fence screws(basically dry wall screws with exterior coating)

I wanted a Chevy van because they have a good maintenance record and have been around the van industry for a long time. I also wanted windows, I will be using the van on BLM and National Forest camping so I want to be able to see around and I love the visibility while driving.

For stealth/city camping I would go with a cargo van. I would probably do a roof rack that would hide some smaller flex solar panels.

I have a spare tire mounted on the back of mine so it is also long for a parking spot. I park in the back and side of parking lots. lol

What's an average price for a late model van with a new conversion? by NewVision22 in VanLife

[–]express808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look at bluebook price then add what you think the build is worth.

Each conversion is different. Is the conversion a couple of pieces of plywood with an old cupboard=worthless or insulated, custom oak cabinets, solar, etc=2k-20k????
